This should be super easy. When the time came around to take my Certified Nursing Assistant test, I thought I practically already got my certificate. The CNA test includes a written portion and a clinical skills test. In order to get the certificate, you must pass both parts. For the clinical skills test, you perform two skills that are assigned to you for the “patient”, which is usually a volunteer, in front of a skills evaluator. My teachers had made sure that we all practiced the skills being tested as well as take practice tests for the written portion of the CNA test. Each time I had done great. So yes, my head got a little big and I patted myself on the back, whispering “I got this.” every time another student would come in nervous from their test. But boy did life have a lesson in store for me. I walked into the room, confidence a little too high and performed my skills in front of the skills evaluator. Walking out, I thought I passed. I told my teachers, my friends, I even texted my mother, …show more content…
After crying and binge watching Grey’s Anatomy I told myself that nothing would be done if I just let myself drown in my self pity. I mean, Cristina Yang would never just give up. So I sent the form to retake my test and I studied my skills beginning to end, end to beginning until I basically ate, slept, and breathed clinical skills. The day before my test, I decided to really test how much I had learned from studying and stayed after school with my teachers. From them, I learned some tips and got some constructive criticism. But the best thing I was told was not to doubt myself. I thought she was just crazy. Lady, did you not see when I first took this test? Not doubting myself doesn’t work out too well for me. The day of the test, I was nervous throughout the drive to the Red Cross

When I leave Finch-Henry Job Corps Center with everything I came to Finch-Henry for, I plan on taking up a career in Nursing Assistant. Before I start to tell why I am pursuing this career, I am going to inform you on the career of Nursing Assistant. A Certified Nurse Assistant is a discipline who works under supervision of a licensed practical. They help patients by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs.
When I trained to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), my instructor went over multiple times on how to deal with the death of the patients I will work with. However, actually experiencing the death of the resident I cared for left an impression on me to better understand all of the residents at Medilodge of East Lansing. I discovered that applying for an internship in social services department there would allow me to build deep and trusting connections with the residents, and develop my skills in working with older adults as I pursue a career in geriatric social work. My internship allowed me to work under the guidance of the social services director and gain insight on how to interact with residents in a professional capacity.
Failure is a part of life. While many see failure as a negative thing, I have started to see it as a situation that can make you a better person. Failure drives me to never make that mistake again. I first realized this when I took my first AP class and AP exam and received a score of 2. This journey all started sophomore year when I took AP World History. I quickly learned that I needed to actually read and take notes to be able to succeed in the class. It took a few poor grades on essays and tests for me to understand this. Despite this new revelation, I still struggled in the class. When it came time to start reviewing and preparing for the exam, I put an immense amount of effort, but not as hard as I should’ve been. Exam day came and
When you take the CNA certification course, it does not even come close to preparing you for what your clinicals will entail. You study and learn to prepare yourself for that moment where it’s up to you to be knowledgeable to do your job. It’s difficult and intimidating to know that you are at the bottom
Healthcare systems and the way safe, quality health care is delivered are continually changing to better serve patients and communities. Professional nursing practice is a large component in the healthcare system today. Back in the 1960s, professional nursing leaders tried to adopt the bachelor degree programs as the only educational track to become a registered nurse (Creasia & Friberg, 2011). Due to nursing shortages and demands this motive did not hold fast. Individuals entering the nursing profession today must first decide which educational pathway to take to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Becoming a certified nursing assistant is one of the first steps that people take on the road to becoming a registered nurse and one of the best aspects is that it pays great along

Lily was a 65 year old lady with stage 5 CKD, she had recently begun hemodialysis treatment three times a week as an inpatient and had been responding well to treatment. During dialysis treatment on the morning of the first day, Lily’s observations showed that she was: tachycardic, hypotensive, tachypnoeaic, had an oxygen saturation level of 88% and was becoming confused and drowsy. It became apparent that Lily had become hypovolaemic. The hypovolaemic shock seen in this patient was of a particular critical nature due to the fact that her dialysis treatment had moved her rapidly through the first two stages of shock with her compensatory mechanisms failing very quickly (Tait, 2012). It was also much harder to identify the early signs of

“Advanced nursing practice is the deliberative diagnosis and treatment of a full range of human responses to actual or potential health problems.” (Calkin, 1984). Advanced nurse practitioners attempt to maximize the use of knowledge and skills and improve the delivery of nursing and health care services. The field of advanced nursing practice differs from basic practice as the former requires clinical specialization at the master’s level. At this level, nurses become expert practitioners whose work includes direct and indirect patient care. Direct patient care involves caring for patients and their families; this is the focus of my section on nurse clinicians. Indirect patient care includes work as an educator, researcher, and a

It is no secret that communication is key when providing direct patient care in a skilled nursing facility. However, there is a noticeable lapse in the communication between the care team when providing care to the individual or groups of individuals. Two main parts of any care team are the registered nurse and the certified nursing assistant, as these are the two people whom have the most direct and impactful roles with residents in a skilled facility. The Registered Nurse and the Certified Nursing Assistant play similar roles in providing patient care, but have different roles in its entirety. The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) is defined as having the competency and skill to provide direct and indirect health care to individuals, their families, and communities around them. Services are also provided designed to give out medications, to promote comfort or healing, promote healing, and to also provide the dignity of their patients and patient’s families (American College of Rheumatology, 2015).
Nurse Practice Act varies from state to state. Each state has different practices that one must
