Global warming is the steady heating of Earth’s land, oceans, and atmosphere caused primarily by human activity. Climate change is one of the world’s biggest challenges right now, from people actively arguing that it doesn’t exist- to other’s who don’t care enough to do anything about it. There’s evidence showing that climate change is happening and affecting our world now and from what it seems, if action isn’t taken, major consequences will soon arise. Most of the world’s land mass has experienced a 0.2-1.0 degree Celsius average temperature increase since the 1970s, the temperatures of the Artic has increased at almost twice the mean global rate. Climate change is caused by human factors such as greenhouse gases and ozone depletion and because humans are so dependent on fossil fuels in their day to day lives, the issue at hand is only going to get worse.

To understand climate change, one must understand what a climate is. A climate can be defined as “the usual weather of a [particular] place…[to] include patterns of temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, and seasons” (State of Washington, n.d.), just to name a few. Climate differs from weather as a climate is comprised of the usual conditions of a given place (i.e. is it consistently humid, dry, wet, cool, etc.), while weather is the conditions present at a given place at any one time (i.e. it is raining, snowing, sunny, etc.). Climates are unique to individual places and generally stay the same over time, while weather can change by the day.

Global Warming has been a big issue that has effects on the environment, people, and the world, and if not stopped now, the results could be catastrophic. The main cause of climate change is likely to be the result of too much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. CO2 creates a blanket which traps heat. Burning fossil fuels for energy, such as coal, oil, and natural gas release CO2 which impacts the atmosphere heavily. Waste management and agricultural practices also produce gases that contribute to climate change, such as methane. There are many contributing factors to climate change.

Extreme weather can be described by patterns that are unusual, unpredictable and unanticipated. Severe extensive change in the pattern of weather is something that is linked to the increase of the average global temperature. Everyday people and countries are affected by climate change and it’s effects. It may not seem serious now but one day it will so here is how climate change is caused and how it could be prevented. Climate change is not one big event it happens over many years. It may happen slow but it's effects can happen faster than we know, just because it's not affecting you now it doesn't mean that it won’t at all. Just remember that only we can stop climate change and help prevent it.

We have inhabited the earth for thousands of years, constantly moving around and changing the landscape of our planet. But the main problem caused by our interference in nature is climate change. Even though Planet earth is always changing, from Pangaea to the Great Yellowstone Thaw. The world is constantly changing and adapting. In particular, since the mid twentieth century, mankind has been pouring alarming levels of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. As if that isn’t bad enough, humans have been treating the earth as if it is one giant trash bin. This destruction is being cause by a few different reasons, including: factory farming, dumping toxic chemicals into water, littering, and many other factors. All of this is adding up to cause climate change. Unlike a change in weather, climate change is a terrible thing for the ecosystem and environment of the planet. It brings up the question, how is this problem to be corrected? The answer could possibly be found in the Disney tale, “The Lion King”.
