Most people say that the sinking of the Titanic was a terrible tragedy ,and that is true . When people heard the news they were very surprised because everyone that the titanic was supposed to be unsinkable and it was not unsinkable. The causes of the titanic sinking are unbelievable. One of the reasons the titanic did not stay afloat is, when they got the alert for the iceberg straight ahead they reversed the engine so they would slow down. After they started to turn hoping that they would miss the iceberg. Unfortunately they hit the iceberg causing them to puncture 5 air chambers which was bad because if they punctured more than 4 air chambers they would sink. In 1985 Robert Ballard found the remains of the titanic at the bottom of the sea Most people say that the sinking of the Titanic was a terrible tragedy ,and that is true . In “The Nickel Boys” by Colson Whitehead, the story of Elwood Curtis is told through his hardship at the Nickel Academy, a ‘reform’ school that provides a second chance for boys to avoid prison. The young boy comes to the awareness of injustice during the Jim Crow era, and reveals the complexities and horrors of simply surviving in an unjust society, but realizes the quest for justice and to free one life, may merely be to free one’s self. In Elwood’s early childhood, his idealism of racial justice was shaped by the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr., while his experiences taught him of the injustices of society. Growing up working in a restaurant whose customers were all white, Elwood saw the separation between them and black people.
April 15, 1912 the “unsinkable” Titanic had almost three hours before it was no longer afloat, but plunged to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. Blueprints, journal & logs, and tons of witnesses were thoroughly inspected over the past 100 years to help solve the question agonizing question, why. For the 100-year remembrance of the tragic event, Smithsonian Channel released a documentary, Titanic’s Final Mystery. Dedicated Titanic detective and historian, Tim Maltin releases his theory on how the “unsinkable” sank.
The Titanic is different from the other ships because, they thought that the Titanic was unsinkable. “It’s another ice burg warning…the captain had seemed quite unconcerned” on 106 and 107 so they aren’t worried that they will not hit the ice burg and sink because those people don’t think it can sink. “There was much talk among the passengers about the Titanic being unsinkable.” On 105 so they aren’t worried that the boat will sink. “Nicknamed the Unsinkable ship” on page 102 it even says unsinkable
On the night of April 15, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg causing the ship to sink in the icy waters of the North Atlantic ocean. The Titanic was known as the “unsinkable” ship. It was also bigger than its two sister, the Olympic and the Britannic. On April 5, 1912, Captain Stanley Lord commanded the liner Californian on a voyage from London to Boston, MA. Captain Stanley Lord of the SS Californian is at fault for the lives lost on the Titanic.
The Titanic was a passenger ship, not a battleship, so it was not built to take on huge icebergs. It states in the article that nothing was wrong in the building of the Titanic, but anything is possible. Man’s error could have been a big factor with the sinking. The ship was built among time pressures, not because of cost, which put a huge strain on the shipyard. If the builders were given more time, then mayne the ship would have been stronger and could have withstanded more. Higher quality rivets and thicker hulls might have kept the Titanic afloat for much longer.
On April 14th - April 15th the R.M.S. Titanic struck a 2,000 ton iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland in the North Atlantic Ocean. There are many questionable reasons to as why the Titanic sank, but there are always the basic ideas. Scientists have theories, but not everything has become proven facts except that the ship did hit an iceberg. The R.M.S. Titanic was affected by weather, design of the ship, or even simple human mistakes.
In some experts opinions the Titanic was doomed from the start. Like most star-liners from the time period, the Titanic featured water tight doors in the bottom of the ship’s haul to keep water from spreading to different areas of the ship in the event of a catastrophe. However, one flaw of these doors was if one of these compartments was flooded, water could spill in over the top into different parts of the ship. This could have been avoided sense other luxury vessels were already
Imagine being on a ship and knowing that in just a few hours it was going to sink. This is what the people on the RMS Titanic experienced. Although this was a major disaster, it brought to light the importance of proper safety equipment. If the Titanic had proper safety equipment and proper instruction on what to do in an emergency, the final death toll would be much lower. The titanic was an enormous ship that had many amazing features to it. When the titanic sank it devastated the world. The aftermath of the event was horrific, many people tried to help but not everyone could be saved.
There were many possible causes for the Titanic sinking, yet some were more blameable than others, and some may have had nothing to do with it at all.
The survivor testimony and underwater surveys has confirmed that the forward expansion joint was opened up while the ship was still on the surface. The article questions the mystery of the titanic before the sunk, the ship separated into two pieces. But when explorers discovered the ship, they found that is separated into three pieces. The article explorers who was responsible behind the titanic sinking. Three hours before the Titanic sunk, the captain ignored at least 14 warnings of hazardous ice fields, six of which were received on the day of the disaster. The engineers of the titanic were also responsible, they equipped only 20 lifeboats and with 1,523 passengers and crew lost their life while still on board. The manufacturers could be responsible, the excess oxygen can form precipitates that can embrittle the steel and will also raise transition temperature which weakened the steel. The low ductility at the freezing point of the water, the shell plates showed signs of brittle
The Titanic Imagine being trapped on a sinking ship with only a small chance of making it out alive. This situation was experienced by thousands of people on the Titanic in April of 1912. Devastatingly, only 705 out of 2,200 people survived this shipwreck. This wreck was caused by a fifty to one hundred feet high and a two hundred to four hundred foot long iceberg. Due to the unforeseen environmental and structural weaknesses, the Titanic was doomed to sink.
When analyzing this disaster the first thing to consider is the engineer’s design of the Titanic. The Titanic was employing many new and innovative designs that were believed to make the Titanic the safest ship ever built at that time. The engineer’s of the vessel made claims that the Titanic was “unsinkable” and that “even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship should have stayed afloat for two to three days.” One of the features that lead them to this claim was the 16 watertight compartments in the hull of the ship. The way they were designed allowed for up to four compartments to be breached and they ship would still carry
The sinking of the Titanic occurred on the night of April 14th through the morning of April 15th 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean. The ship hit an iceberg at about 11:40 pm on April 14th. The Titanic failed to divert its course from an iceberg and ruptured at least five of hull compartment. These compartment filled with water and pulled down the bow of the ship. There was literally so much water that the ship was vertical in the air.
The Titanic's maiden voyage was a disaster because they didn’t make it on one. The reason why is because they crashed. Water was getting in the ship. The ship had a disaster. The people were scared. Some of them didn’t know what was happening. That is why it was a disaster.
The Titanic was one of the most tragic engineering failures in recorded history. This unsinkable boat was designed to perfection. Even the engineers that built it, claimed it to be one of their best inventions created, which is why people trusted the design.
