The University of Texas A&M, located in College Station, Texas, was founded in 1876. It is currently a research-intensive flagship, that is zealous to preparing its students for the challenges of tomorrow (1). Over the years, it has adapted toward researching solutions to problems facing humanity. After 140 years, the university continues to diverse, becoming one of the largest in the nation (1). The university specializes in, the engineering and agricultural field, though it offers many more degrees in a wide variety of departments (1). According to the university’s website, freshmen are categorized according to the amount of college credit acquired during high school, if any. They are also based on their nationality and residence, “those wishing to apply must be a U.S. citizen; have applied for permanent residence; or qualify for Texas residency based on Senate Bill 1528” (1). Those who obtained or qualify for permanent residency in the state of Texas are consequently eligible for lower tuition fees. Additional requirements are as follows: write a +2 topic essay with the average length ranging from 1-1.5 pages, “a $75 processing fee, an official high school transcript with a numeric class rank and a graduation plan, and official ACT scores” (1). All of these documents are required for the application, with the average accepted ACT composite score being a 27 (2). Applicants wishing to attend the College of Engineering are asked to answer the following question as a part of the application: “Describe your academic and career goals in the broad field of engineering. What and/or who has influenced you either inside or outside the classroom that contributed to these goals” (1). The question is asking the applicant what can they offer the university, and how might the university be improved if they institute such suggestions. If the applicant is applicable, then certain documents are mandatory for submission, such as: “State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy (UAP) or the Curriculum Verification Form, permanent resident card, I-551, or the Senate Bill 1528 Affidavit” (1). The purposes of the State of Texas UAP and Curriculum Verification Form are to confirm that the applicant did attend high school and are also for the authentication of their transcripts.
