Texas Roadhouse has over 500 restaurants in 49 states so the strategies of compliance and inclusion needs to roll out nationwide. The first strategy would ensure a buy in at the senior management level, hopefully leading to a recognition that Texas Roadhouse did in fact discriminate against older workers. That in order to change our Business culture the firm establishes a new division for diversity and Inclusion with enough resources and authority to provide diligent effort to ensure compliance. A senior management level debriefing would include a discussion on the amount of money spent on litigation, lobbying to fight the lawsuit and whether simple compliance efforts would have been a wiser investment. At some level for senior management
"We wanted to provide a place that the whole family could enjoy," says Taylor. "Texas Roadhouse is about a hearty, good meal with service that is friendly, energetic, and
On the day of April 19, 1993, at the Mount Carmel Compound in Waco Texas, an inferno of flames broke out after a 51 day siege on the Branch Davidians cult group. A total of 92 lives were lost during the fire, as well as many more during the previous 51 days. Many speculations arose whether the compound being incinerated was set by the FBI in a final attempt to make the Davidians leave the compound, and end the million dollar siege once and for all, or if it was a mass suicide conducted by David Koresh, the leader of the Branch Davidians. Of course, this will always remain a mystery, because almost 100 of the members refused to leave the building, leaving it to be a national tragedy, and unclosed case of who did it.
The $2.4 billion restaurant chain fought a losing battle throughout the last few decades against negative publicity, defending its position discriminating against gay and lesbian employees. Workplace issues began in January 1991 with an internal memo from Cracker Barrel’s home office requiring that managers fire employees who expressed or were suspected of homosexual preferences. The Vice President of Human Resources, William Bridges, stated that the company was “founded upon a concept of traditional American values”, and expressed it was contrary to Cracker Barrel’s morals to employ people whose sexual inclinations did not show “normal heterosexual values.” This rare corporate action exposed Cracker Barrel’s biased practices, with the declarations landing them in court. As many as 16 employees throughout the country were
When you’re craving a juicy steak and baked potato, you may not know where you can get an absolutely delicious one. If you would love some delicious, hearty meat, I recommend you narrow it down to Applebee’s and Texas Roadhouse. Applebee's is a laid back experience that is very similar to Texas Roadhouse. Their menu similarities make them big competition, but it really comes down to the atmosphere. Applebee’s atmosphere feels much like every family restaurant I’ve been too.
My recommendations to Hy-Vee Inc. would be to have managers reiterate the aspects of diversity to their departments because I have seen firsthand that it is an effective approach. Also, to have annual store meetings to just keep everyone up to date on the policies including discrimination amongst other aspects of company policy. From the response of Rachel it seems that herself and management staff are taking appropriate and effective approaches to prevent discrimination in the workplace. It’s also very important for Hy-Vee Inc. and their store managers to understand that it only takes one person to discriminate and that can ruin the image of the store and company.
The example of hiring only women as servers could arguably violate the best-known employment anti-discrimination law found in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In summary, Section 703 of the Act mentions, it shall be unlawful employment practice for an employer to refuse to hire an individual based on sex. Hooters is a prime example of a franchise that has found loop holes in discrimination law. From the perspective of Hooters they are in the business of entertaining and their brand relies on having attractive women “entertain” their guests. This is a gray area and ethically speaking, I would pass on going into Hooters, because in my opinion, this is an act of discrimination. Regardless of my opinion, Hooters continues to hire only women and uses BFOQ as a defense. A BFOQ is deemed to a specific job and “reasonably necessary to the normal operation of the business,” and is determined on a

Over the years the national chain restaurant Hooters has had lawsuits brought against them for discrimination based on gender. Currently, the issue is weight discrimination. Not just one lawsuit, but two, and maybe three lawsuits may be filed. The waitresses claim that they lost their jobs because they weighed too much. They were put on a 30-day weight probation and offered gym memberships. The ethical issue here is the fact the company practices such discrimination and justifies their actions by claiming that the waitresses are entertainers. Not to mention, the waitress in question weighed 13 pounds less than when she was hires in 2008. Unfortunately for Hooters the Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil
We human beings get discriminated for not only the things we do and the things we wear, but even for where we work. Sadly , this is not new news. We all most likely not just witness this discrimination daily, but probably are guilty of making those stereotypical judgment ourselves as well, because it’s not the “normal” trend of today’s society. But Joey Franklin, who is the narrator in his story Working at Wendy’s, brings us a new perspective within the fast food industry.
