The case dealt with Jeff Quon, a police sergeant at the Ontario Police Department who was issued a pager in October of 2001 because of his work on the the department 's SWAT Team. Quon allegedly went over his allotted number of text messages on his department issued pager a repeated number of times, which resulted in an additional fee that Quon paid. The department took notice of the high number of messages and decided to look into the matter to see if the limit was set too low and to make sure the messages being sent on the company pagers were work related. During their review of the transcripts they found many personal messages, which resulted in Quon being reprimanded by the department. Quon felt the actions of his workplace were unfair on the basis of the Fourth Amendment and brought action against the city. It is important to note that before the pagers were issued to employees, a Computer Policy was announced for every employee that stated the department “reserves the right to monitor and log all network activity including e-mail and Internet use, with or without notice [and] users should have no expectation of privacy or confidentiality when using these resources”. The trial judge originally believed that Quon was right to expect the messages he sent using the pager owned by his workplace were going to be kept private. On the evening of Thursday, August 25, 2016, officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) encountered Lan Nguyen Tran, a fisherman of Escambia County. Suspicious of Tran’s shrimp boat and nets, Officer Allgood and Officer Manning of the FWC inspected Lan Tran’s fishing nets, of which four were discovered to be larger than sizes permitted by law, equating to a misdemeanor offense in the state of Florida (source). In a second-level violation of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rules, Tran was detained, and a total of four oversized fishing nets were confiscated by the FWC officers (source). On Thursday, September 8, 2016, Lan Nguyen Tran entered the Escambia County court system, was arraigned on Friday, September 26, and pleaded not guilty on Tuesday, November 1, based on reports from the Escambia County Clerk of the Court (source). Tran was appointed a public defender by the court system, and The Honorable Ms. Jennifer Frydrychowicz was assigned to the case.

After enduring probably the longest 7 months of his life, Tom Brady overcame adversity after beating the 4 game suspension that was handed down by NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell. There was a lot of speculation behind "deflategate" that tainted Tom Brady's name and legacy after hearing about him destroying his phone during the investigation, but in the end, Brady's suspension was overturned by a judge in court which automatically made him eligible to play against the Steelers in Week 1. During the whole ordeal, Brady remained silent and kept his name clear of any attention while the investigation was active, but on September 3rd, his suspension was nullified and Brady finally spoke out.
