Over the past several years, SDMHA’s board of directors has been considering how SDMHA can better serve leased residential property owners and managers throughout South Dakota. Our time spent in Pierre and Washington D.C. made us realize the importance of being a statewide voice for the residential rental industry. Therefore, several months ago we secured the right to represent every South Dakota county to the National Apartment Association. Then at the October board meeting, your board of directors voted to implement an expansion plan in 2018. In order to grow SDMHA, we have identified three expansion areas. Those areas are the Black Hills, Aberdeen and Yankton/Vermillion areas. The board also identified three secondary focus areas
The apartment complex opening was recognized with a ribbon-cutting celebration that featured Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. 20 residents have moved into the apartments already, and the 40 remaining potential residents are in the process of being located. Beyond encouraging stability for its residents, MHCD hopes to improve upon this concept and create another apartment complex to reunite families that have been affected by homelessness.

Due to the growing demand for housing, CDCs must compete with market rate developers when acquiring properties (Alejandrino 28). Because of this competition, the cost of developing affordable housing is driven up, and this makes it harder for the CDCs to complete their function as aids for people in the community.

Barbara’s main reason is that she felt that the HIM department should not be excluded from participating in receiving the Electronic Health Record system since many HIM positions would use the EHR system to see a patient’s medical information. At the beginning of the meeting, she stated that she had previously worked with EHR systems at other hospitals, and she wanted to see the specs of auditing and retrieving capabilities. She also mentioned that the EHR does not meet the HIM requirements of this RFP, and therefore the RFP had to be cancelled. Their plan was to rewrite the RFP so it could meet the HIM standards.
These expansion plans will result in the creation of 12 additional jobs. This project was designated as a Southern Tier priority project under the URI/CFA process.
