The Lord called him out of retirement to start a new church. Bro. Fred checked with the Eastern Louisiana Baptist Association Director of Missions, David Brown, to learn what areas the association had targeted for a new church and what was needed. He was told that the Louisiana Baptist Convention required a new church to have a sponsoring church. Dr. Roger Dunlap and Macedonia Baptist Church gladly voted to be our sponsoring church. The customer value proposition in this case is that the agency is the oldest child-serving nonprofit in the state of Florida, who provides a necessary, high quality service to those clients identified as being in a significant time of need. The agency also makes access to the services available to the clients at no charge to the families through Medicaid billing. The statement of advantage is emphasized by again considering the continuum of care offered and level of wrap-around services that are provided by the agency. This creates an environment of excellent communication in treatment planning, and allows a client to receive all necessary services through one place, minimizing treatment errors or oversights.

Texans are being short changed by the proposed Medicaid cuts. Legislature has told the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) that they must cut $350 million from the Medicaid funding over the next two years. In order to abide by the legislature’s demands, the HHSC has proposed cutting the reimbursement rates for pediatric physical and occupational therapists on average by 10 to 25 percent. And pediatric speech therapists would face cuts of 16 to 27 percent. Many feel that these cuts to the therapy payments have little to no effect on the services that children with disabilities receive. These individuals say that following the orders will assist in reducing the therapy rates and will reduce the practice of excess therapy. On the opposing side, it has been expressed that cutting therapy funds that the State of Texas provides has the potential to cause individuals within the pediatric population to lose crucial therapy services. The planned cuts have the risk to jeopardize the potential of our nation’s young. The cuts also make many agency’s that currently provide occupational, physical and speech therapy vulnerable to closures and lay-offs.

The schools were government-funded and meant to force the assimilation of young Aboriginal children into European-Canadian society (course lecture). Many students were forbidden to speak their native language or otherwise engage in their culture at the schools, which were run by churches (Jean Lafrannce & Don Collins, course reading). All aspect of children’s life was very carefully regulated, including the educational training that geared to low level jobs in the society (course lecture). Many children were physically, sexually and psychologically abused while at the schools, but the abusers were not charged (course lecture).
