Career Paper: Investigating Mystery

You use some math in this job. You have to go over forensics such as calculating how far the gunman was from a gunshot victim. To be a detective for that unit you would work as a regular police officer and after time you would be able to transfer. They mostly use schematics to process crimes scenes.

I plan to achieve this goal after I get a bachelor’s Degree in Criminology through Mississippi State University College. With this I will be able to do police work or law enforcement to get where I need to be to be a Private Investigator. Also getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology I will be able to study the types, patterns and trends in criminal behavior. This process will help me achieve this goal.

To be a Police Detective, a various wide range of skills and qualities are required to be adequate at the role of a Police Detective. The path of a Police Detective can be exceedingly rewardable, however can be extremely challenging.

The work environment that comes with being a detective or investigator is sometimes you will work in a cubicle but then also you will work in a field and gather evidence that will or can be used in court to convict somebody of a crime. The job hours can be at anytime. The job hours can be 9 to 5 one week but then the next week they can be totally different (BLS.gov, 2014). Sometimes you may not even work everyday if there is not a case for you to work. Also sometimes you can work at your own pace. You do not have to be rushed usually but you do need to get the work done as soon as possible so they can convict the criminal fast before he can leave the area. Sometimes you are not even supervised. You can be your own boss sometimes. You cant do this job just at anything location usually you will need a computer and a phone to contact people that can help you by showing or telling you some evidence about the case or about the people that are involved in the case.

I think that the most interesting responsibility of a forensic scientist would be analyzing the data. I would always want to be the one to piece together a puzzle, and to solve a crime to figure out exactly what happened in a case. I think that it would be challenging, but it would also be interesting to join in on a case and examine and analyze the data to figure different things out.

It is a long process when becoming a detective. In college, classes such as: English, American history, business law, government, psychology, sociology, chemistry, and physics are suggested. Before becoming a detective, one must attend a law enforcement academy, providing the officer with a foundation of education with sixteen to twenty-four college units in criminal justice or administration of criminal justice. (Morkes 677) After graduation from the law enforcement academy the officer undergoes job training with a field training officer for a period specified by the law enforcement agency and continues to work while on a probationary period, ranging from one to two years.

I know that there is no college degree required for these jobs considering that you have on job training. But more detective type jobs require some degree in criminal justice and you only need two years’ worth.

I’m interested in the law enforcement career path, and there are a lot of different paths you could take in this career choice. This career got my attention mainly because, I find solving mysteries and crimes very intriguing. The origin of this occupation came in during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, coming into America from England. “Generally speaking, the constable became responsible for law enforcement in the towns, while the sheriff took responsibility for the counties” (Stinchcomb 3). The educational requirements for this occupation at a minimum are as high school diploma or GED. Our high school provides us with a forensics class you can take your senior year, and we have an athletics department that you could join anytime

If a murder, a homicide and or a suicide occur, the crime scene investigator(s) collects the clues and evidence that will be analyzed by the forensic scientist(s) which can lead them to their suspect(s). The purpose of a Crime Scene Investigation is to help victims find justice.

Not only does it spark an interest of mine but, it is a wide spectrum of my career path. Forensics is the core to crime scene investigation. Along with the process of forensic science, and gaining evidence; the most important part is suspect interrogation. During this process, the victims, suspects or witnesses of a crime are being asked many questions to asset towards the case. When interrogating the victims/suspects, there must be a form of psychological knowledge used while interacting with them.

With the new age of technology, solving violent crimes such as murder, physical abuse, and kidnapping have become much easier to solve thanks to forensic evidence. Forensic has solved thousands of crimes and cold cases, some notable cases are the Green River Killer, the cold case murder of Krystal Beslanowitch, and Leanne Tirenan to name a few. I think job is cool because they find evidence, examine clues, and work with interesting appliances.

Crime scene investigators are the people who help the police departments in solving the crimes. These people just find out and analyze the evidences and remove any kind of suspects. You can also be one of them. So here are some of points that should be known to you.

My dream job is to be a forensic anthropologist. This job will combine my love of science and the challenge of a mystery. The job responsibilities of a forensic anthropologist is to work with law enforcement agencies and assist in processing skeletal evidence. They study bones. May assist in excavating and relocating human remains. Determining time of death, assessing trauma to the bones, and presenting expert testimony in court.

Travelling to a real crime scene to spend the day as a genuine crime scene investigator would be a true blessing. Outside of school and sports, I spend most of my time binge-watching CSI. When I graduate high school, I want to major in psychology and become a school counselor. Recently, I discovered that there is a forensic area in the psychology field that has made me extremely interested in forensic science. This discovery has led me to be interested in the crime scene investigation field; which is where I would travel to if I had the chance.

As a Detective, their job is to serve and protect the law all costs. There are many factors that play into being a protector of the law, and its honorable citizens. When you think about detectives, what is the first thing pops up in your mind? Detectives must work in sometimes tough situations depending on where they get assigned. Now police, patrol the street and keep a look out for traffic violations while the Detectives go out into the field and try to dig up facts to help solve the case that they are assigned to.
