Introduction In our world today, there are many different types of occupations that play a major role in society. Out of all occupations, one of the most well respected occupations is being a doctor. There are various types of medical fields that one can choose to study. Nowadays, when one wants to major in a medical field, their automatic medical field is to study Neurology or Cardiology. Both of these medical fields are extremely important and well known, especially Cardiology. According to current researchers, cardiac-related diseases are the most deadly and most occurring compared to other diseases. “As of 2008, 17.3 million or 30% of the global deaths were related to cardiovascular diseases” (Heart). It is crucial for Cardiologists …show more content…
It has been realized that amongst the various diseases in our world, cardiovascular diseases have become the most significant cause of health problems and death in many of the developed countries. According to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, about 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States. That is 1 person dying of some sort of heart disease for every 4 deaths. There are all sorts of harmful and very critical cardiovascular diseases that people are diagnosed for everyday. The main three types of diseases are Rheumatic, Hypertensive, and Ischemic heart disease. Rheumatic heart diseases are related to the defects in the heart valves, which separate the four chambers of the heart where blood is collected and pumped and they also control the direction of the blood flow throughout the body. Hypertensive is pertaining to high blood pressures, which are caused by certain disease and infections. The most important of all, Ischemic heart diseases, refers to “heart ailments caused by the narrowing of arteries and decreasing the blood supply to the heart” (Cardiovascular), risking the death of a patient.
As mentioned previously, one of the diseases that is related to Ischemic heart diseases is Coronary Artery Disease, which is known to be one of the deadliest and leading cause of heart attacks. To start, Coronary Artery disease is mentioned as the “disease that leads to […]
Coronary artery disease affects the circulatory system. Chemically, this disease develops when blood vessels that are necessary for living become badly damaged. Cholesterol plaques become inflamed in the arteries. The most common signs and symptoms are chest pains which tighten the chest as if someone were standing on it. Shortening of breath also affects those with this disease because the heart is unable to supply enough blood. A major sign of this disease is having a heart attack. This indicates an artery that is completely blocked. This disease is caused by damaging the coronary arteries by smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. To diagnose this disease, medical physicians will perform physical exams and examine blood
Coronary Artery Disease, also known as CAD, is the most common form of heart disease. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Coronary Artery Disease obstructs the blood flow in vessels that provides blood to the heart which is caused by the buildup of plaque on the artery walls. (Rogers, 2011, p.87) (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Plaque is a yellow substance that consists of fat substances, like cholesterol, and narrows or clogs the arteries which prevents blood flow. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Plaque can build up in any artery but usually favors large and medium sized arteries. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009)
As you can tell, the heart is an essential muscle for your body and has a lot of intricate parts. Cardiovascular health is extremely important, so it should be a priority to try your best to keep it healthy. One of the leading causes of death in America is Cardiovascular Disease. Cardiovascular Disease is a type of condition that affects the way the heart functions. One type of cardiovascular disease are heart diseases caused by atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fatty substances in the arteries. One disease caused by atherosclerosis is called
Coronary heart disease is one of the leading killers in America. I will later discuss why this is the case, and how the choices of Americans will inflict the ultimate price of death. Aside from bad decisions, the anatomy of where this disease takes place is fragile in regards to bodily malfunctions. The reason it is called coronary heart disease is because it takes place in the coronary arteries. These arteries are what supplies the heart with oxygenated blood. So you can guess that if something goes wrong with these arteries, it could be detrimental for the entire body because the heart pumps blood to the whole body. The right and left coronary arteries branch from the aorta, which is the main supplier of blood to the systemic circuit. The
Cardiovascular disease has reportedly been the number one disease killer for men and women in the United States of America. Every one out of four deaths is caused by heart disease in the United States alone (Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention). Heart disease refers to the different types of conditions and symptoms that can affect the one’s heart and its functions to the body (Mayo Clinic). Cardiovascular/Heart disease has many causes and conditions, prevention methods and symptoms, and treatment options.
Coronary Heart Disease Coronary heart disease remains the most common cause of death in the United Kingdom. A statistic from the American Heart Association is that heart disease claims a life every 24 seconds. [www.americanheart.org] Another is that it is the largest single cause of premature death in the United Kingdom, responsible for 180 000 deaths annually. [www.americanheart.org]
One source of great mortality and morbidity in Europe and North America is the cardiovascular disease, Atherosclerosis. It is recognized as a chronic inflammatory disease of the intermediate and large arteries characterized by the thickening of the arterial wall and is the primary cause of coronary and cerebrovascular heart disease (Wilson, 2005). It accounts for 4.35 million deaths in Europe and 35% death in the UK each year. Mortality rate are generally higher in men than pre-menopausal woman. Past the menopause, a woman’s risk is similar to a man’s (George and Johnston, 2010). Clinical trials have confirmed that lipid accumulation, endothelial dysfunction, cell proliferation, inflammation matrix alteration and foam cell formation are
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) refers to the dysfunctional conditions of the heart, arteries, and veins that supply oxygen to vital life- sustaining areas of the body like the brain, the heart itself and other vital organs. Since the term cardiovascular disease refers to any dysfunction of the cardiovascular system there are many different diseases in the cardiovascular category, and many of these diseases are strongly intertwined. Ischemic Heart Disease is the medical idiom for the obstruction of blood flow to the heart. It is usually due largely in part to excess fat or plaque deposits that narrow the veins that provide oxygenated blood to
It is not only the leading cause of death in the United States, but also it is the most common type of heart diseases. By killing nearly 380,000 people yearly, and that is about every 60 seconds someone dies from it. Yes, it is the heart attack or also known as coronary heart disease. Heart attacks occur when one of the coronary artery is blocked or narrowed by fats. After that, the blood clot will gather and block the narrowed artery causing a slowly painful death to the artery by decreasing the amount of oxygen, and replacing the live tissue with a dead one.
Cardiovascular diseases are diseases which involve the heart or blood vessels, they are in fact the leading causes of death and disability in the world. Cardiovascular diseases include coronary artery disease, or ischaemic heart disease (heart attack), cerebrovascular disease (stroke) and diseases of the aorta and arteries including hypertension and peripheral vascular disease (Mendis, Puska, & Norrving, 2011). They are all due to a disease known as atherosclerosis which affects arteries (George, & Johnson, 2010). There are also other cardiovascular disease that are not related to atherosclerosis, for instance, congenital heart disease caused by abnormal structures of the heart existing at birth, rheumatic heart disease due to Type II hypersensitivity reaction following streptococcal bacteria infection, cardiomyopathies (disorders of the heart muscle) and cardiac arrhythmias (disorders of electrical conduction system of the heart). Among all the cardiovascular diseases, coronary artery disease and cerebrovascular disease are the first two major contributors to global mortality (Mendis, Puska, & Norrving, 2011).
Cardiovascular disease is a disease that affects both the heart and the blood vessel condition. Cardiovascular disease is a major health concern today because it is the leading cause of death in the United States. One in every three deaths are caused by this disease. You can prevent getting cardiovascular disease by eating healthy, not smoking, being active and exercising, watching your blood pressure, maintaining stress at a healthy level and maintaining good cholesterol levels. The health care in the United States work hard to help fight this disease. They spend about $320 million to help those affected by this disease.
The most common, and most preventable, heart disease of all is coronary artery disease. This is caused when blockages develop in the blood vessels
Atherosclerosis is the main cause of the death from heart disease. Heart is a big muscle which needs lot of oxygen. But because of a blood clot that blocks a big coronary vessel, blood cannot flow, a heart has not enough oxygen and develop necrosis.
Another type of cardiovascular disease is a myocardial infarction, or a heart attack. This is when the heart does not get enough blood flow and the heart is not getting enough oxygen and the part of the heart that is not getting any blood and oxygen starts to die and the heart attack occurs. The heart may not be getting enough oxygen because the coronary arteries that deliver blood to the heart could be narrowing due to plaque buildup in the artery, or there could be a blood clot not allowing that blood to get to the heart.
Ischemic heart disease is a state of repeating mid-section agony or distress that happens when a part of the heart does not get enough blood. This condition happens regularly amid effort or energy, when the heart requires more noteworthy blood stream. Ischemic heart disease, likewise called coronary illness, is regular in the United States and is a main source of death around the world. Ischemic coronary illness creates when cholesterol particles in the blood start to collect on the dividers of the corridors that supply blood to the heart. Inevitably, stores called plaques may shape. These stores limit the supply routes and in the end obstruct the stream of blood. This lessening in bloodstream decreases the measure of oxygen supplied to the heart muscle. The signs and indications of ischemic heart disease may grow gradually as corridors bit by bit get to be blocked, or they may happen rapidly if a course all of a sudden gets to be blocked. A few individuals with ischemic heart disease have no side effects by any means, while others may have serious midsection torment (angina) and shortness of breath that can represent a danger of
