Inside our body there is a powerful muscular pump, which is known as the one of the main organs in the human body. This hollow, cone shaped, pump lies slightly left within the center of the chest called our heart. The heart is made up of different structures and actions in order for it to work, combined with a network of blood vessels form what we know as the cardiovascular system.

The heart is one of the most important organs in the body. The heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the human body supplying the tissue with oxygen and nutrients and removing carbon dioxide and waste. If the heart does not supply blood and oxygen to the organs and tissues, they will die.

The heart is a very strong muscle that has one major job. The heart’s job is to pump blood throughout the entire body. The heart is made up of 4 chambers, and 4 valves. There is the right and left atrium, and a right and left ventricle. The atriums are the superior chambers, and the ventricles are inferior chambers. Cardiac muscle is found only in the walls of the heart. The function is to power pump action of the heart. Cardiac muscle is involuntary tissue muscle that never gets tired, it has similarities with skeletal muscle, it is striated and with smooth muscle, its contractions are not under conscious control, this type of muscle is highly specialised. It is under the control of the autonomic nervous system. In cardiac muscle, without nervous input, contractions cannot occur due to cells called peacemaker. Cardiac muscle is highly resistant to fatigue due to presence of a large number of mitochondria and a good blood supply that allows continuous aerobic metabolism.

The Body can’t sustain life if it didn’t have any heart tissue cells. A heart tissue cell helps the body and the cardiovascular system greatly. The heart tissue cell is part of the cardiovascular system and without them, the whole body system wouldn't work. The heart tissue cell is built like any other cell in the body but it connects to 3 or 4 other cells at the same time. The main purpose of the heart muscle is to pump blood to the entire body throughout an entire lifetime. Although, these cells can die and cause the others to work even harder.

The cardiac muscles structure are branched cells that interlink together, which creates a more tenacious structure, which can resist the strong pumping of blood through the ventricles and atria. The cardiac muscle in the heart also allows electrical charge to pass over it, so when the heart wants to pump blood; the sinoatrial node sends an electrical impulse across to the atrioventricular node which sends a wave of citation across the Purkinje tissue and down to the apex of the heart. This stimulates a heartbeat. If the Cardiac muscle didn’t allow electrical charge to pass over it, then your heart would not be able to beat and send blood to other parts in the body.

Working in a facility where majority of the patients or residents have cardiac related health problems, I perform a shorter version of cardiac and peripheral vascular system assessments in day-to-day basis. Most of my residents have signs and symptoms of cardiovascular disease and daily monitoring is important. I have one resident in particular that I have been monitoring and regularly update the doctor of his status. He has congestive heart failure (CHF), COPD, and other co-morbidities. He has 4+ pitting edema to the lower extremities, elevated heart rate, and crackles to the lungs, which are the presenting symptoms of CHF (Jarvis, 2016). In the United States heart disease is the number one cause of death. The artificial heart is a prosthetic device that is implanted into the chest cavity to replace the heart. The device is bigger and heavier than the adult human heart. Artificial hearts help patients regain their health and get ready for a transplant.

The hearts role is to pump oxygenated blood to every cell in the body by having a continuous beat. Throughout time the heart has created mystery, however current technology has solved most of the mystery, there still remains an enchantment and eagerness to learn more.
