In the book Bystander, Eric, the protagonist, was a bystander, who noticed about bullying but, never did anything about it. Eric learned to take action for what is right to prevent from bullying and not be a bystander. As Eric realized that he was a bystander, he learned to stand up and confront the bullies.
Eric’s problem began when he was the new kid in town when he met David Hallenback, the minor character, running away from someone with ketchup all over his body, looking terrified, and glancing back again and again while he ran. By this scene, Eric could guess that Hallenback was bullied. After Hallenback left, he saw a group of boys and a girl, on their bikes. For that reason, Eric broke into Griffin’s house to take back his stuffs to get revenge to prove that now they’re equal he understood that both bullying and bystanding was wrong. Eric sauntered into Griffin’s house after he made sure that no one was home. He stealthily went into the house, crept up the stairs to Griffin’s roo,. Trying his best not to make a sound when he heard snoring coming from a room. Eric entered Griffin’s room, took of his sneakers, and collected his CD and his money. Eric only remembered that he left his sneakers in Griffin’s room after he sprinted to the front door to prevent from getting caught by Griffin’s dad. The next day, Griffin wore Eric’s sneakers to school but, kept his distance from Eric. Now, Eric became an ordinary kid, not the bully, not the victim, and not the bystander.
In conclusion, Eric understood that bystanding and trying to fit in was wrong so, he learned to stand up and defy the jerks. Eric had become Griffin’s friend until he found out his true colors. For many reasons, Eric decided to put a stop to all the bullying once and for
