7 January 1015 Bullying: A Major Threat or A Part of Life?
Bullying has been an issue for people since the very first nations started fighting each other in order to establish a hierarchy of the strong and servants of the weak, but today bullying has changed and evolved. Today there are a multitude of tactics that bullying can be done, such as physical, teasing, cyber, and psychological, which makes it easier for the bully and harder on the victim. But why is this a bigger issue now than in the past? It is because children now have improper ways of handling bullying. They start to look for other solutions to solve it other than trying to themselves even when it is a small dispute. Although, bullying isn’t just minors situations, it can grow to very dangerous for a victim. Once a child feels bullied or upsetted by another, whether it is actual bullying or not, cause problems and changes everything around them and for everyone. The proper tactic to discover if a child is really being seriously bullied or is handling it improperly can be discovered by looking at the definition and types of bullying, the way adults and children handle it, to look at the similarities and differences from a generation ago, and to pinpoint the actual problem of bullying. When a person thinks of bullying, the first thought that comes to mind is the classic, cartoon, playground scene where an freakishly tall kids beats and hangs a small and weak child on
Bullying is a very touchy subject for people to talk about. It deals with a lot of mental, physical, and emotional damage. Bullying is violent and unwelcoming behavior among various different aged children in school that involves a lack of power for one kid and a lot of power for another. The behavior of a bully is repeated numerous times over time and becomes more aggressive as the path goes on. The bully has an imbalance of power over the one being bullied. They bully uses their power for giving out embarrassing information, control, physical strength, popularity, and harming others. Kids who are being bullied and bullying others have serious lasting problems throughout their lifetime. Bullying is becoming a major issue in today 's society and somebody needs to make a stop to it.
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among people of all ages, but mostly school-age children. Society has been aware of bullying since around 1693, but it was not viewed as a real problem until the 1970s. “While overall incidents of school violence, such as assault and theft, have declined in the last decade, bullying is on the rise.” (qtd in Tyre) The percentage of middle and high school students that have been victimized by bullying went up from 14 percent in 2001 to 32 percent in 2009. (Tyre)
Bullying is bound to happen anywhere at any time but occurs mostly within school limits. Kathleen Winkler defines bulling in her book, Bullying, as “...any kind of ongoing physical or verbal mistreatment, done with the intent to harm, where there is an imbalance of power between bully and victim” (Winkler 14). Bullying has an extremely important impact on one’s everyday life and can affect their life negatively getting to the point where they can no longer take the blow. To try and prevent bullying from taking place in schools, one needs to know how bullying effects a person, what the role of each person involved in the situation is, and have knowledge of specific methods on how to prevent it. Bullying in schools is a serious problem and a handful of school do their part to prevent it; others, not as much, which means there is room for improvements.
When it comes to bullying nearly everyone has heard of the old saying, “kids will be kids.” This was during the time when this behavior only happened on the playground. With a changing society the term bullying has also been altered. No single factor puts a child at risk of being bullied or bullying others. Bullying can happen anywhere. The term bullying is defined as, “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real
An average bullying session lasts about 37 seconds; an adult intervenes in the problem about one in twenty-five times (Bullying Facts). Bullying is seen as aggressive and unwanted behavior between two or more people (Aspa). Most people who are not involved in the actions going on do not really know it’s happening. Most parents do not even know when their child, or children, are being bullied (Bullying Facts). Bullying can be prevented if the right consequences take place. Parents and schools have the rules about bullying prevention, but these do not prevent the bullying from continuing their ways. People who bully often should receive bigger consequences because eventually the problem could escalate and the bully will continue their
With school-aged children, bullying more frequently happens while they are at school, or afterward when the students are not being supervised by their teacher in places like the cafeteria, bus, lockers, playground or neighborhood. Now that kids have access to online technology, bullying can also happen on the internet. With this in mind, teachers must now research and understand what bullying is, and develop methods to help fight against bullying. Bullying is the aggressive, unwanted behavior that occurs between kids of all ages. Children that bully are using the power they believe they have over other kids to try to control and harm them. Bullying can happen via verbal, social, or physical abuses, such as name-calling, threats, spreading rumors, isolation, embarrassment, spitting, hitting, destroying personal things, etc. In order to be considered bullying, these bad behaviors are repeated over time.
The terms bully and the act of bullying are defined in many ways. From a blustering quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people to “instances when a child is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other students” to being later fully defined as including the intention to cause harm as well as a power differential in which the less powerful person is being attacked. The most recent definition of bullying is, “as an aggressive behavior or intentional harm doing that is carried out repeatedly and over time in an interpersonal relationship characterized by an actual or perceived imbalance of power or strength”. Since bullying has such a wide array of definitions it is often handled differently for each situation.
Children and teens thought the whole country are so scared of their bully, they don't even want to get on the bus! Bullying has become abhorrent and teens and children are losing their lives just because of one person. Bullying is a problem through the whole country and should be stopped.
Has anyone seen movies were they portray a child more than perfect? Has the charisma, intelligence, beauty, ambition, care, and has a successful life that everyone would like to have? Of course an individual will never be perfect, they will always possess good and bad traits. For an individual to find true identity and uniqueness, they have to go through the process of human development. Each person goes through different paths in life trying to explore the world to seek out their identity. Life goes through many changes, from infancy to late adulthood were there are trials and tribulations. An individual is influenced throughout life by multiple factors such as different styles of parenting, social stereotypes, ethnicities, and gender.
Many kids all around the world are abused by their parents, peers or even by complete strangers. One of these types of abuse is bullying. There are many different types of bullying, which may lead to a victim becoming violent later on. There is teasing and name calling, there is also picking and shoving the kid. However, the most extreme one would be beating up the child, hurting them physically and mainly, emotionally.
Bullying is an epidemic right now. We area inundated with it. Some instances it seems that bullying is culturally appropriate. We see it everywhere. It is in the business world, Hollywood, schools, over the internet and on the playgrounds, to name a few. Bullying happens to people of all ages. The most heard about is in childhood and adolescence. Bullying comes in different forms. Physical bullying, such as hitting, pinching, shoving or kicking. Verbal bullying such as taunting, teasing or name-calling. Formerly thought to be just a normal aspect of growing up, bullying in schools is increasingly being recognized as a serious social problem that should be met with organized preventative efforts to downsize it. Bullying commonly deals with three aspects such as the nature of its occurrence, the frequency it takes place, and the effects it can have on a person. While each instance is different for each person, one constant is that this is a uncomfortable situation for anyone to deal with. Bullying can be described as a negative form of behavior or hostility. Many times bullying doesn 't take place one time on numerous occasions. It also may occur in a wide range of other forms of abuse and assault against children, for example, as physical, sexual, verbal and emotional abuse. This may be perpetrated by peers, by known adults and by strangers. For all intents and purposes, every type of bullying represent a abuse of influence, a negative use of power in order to dominate another, suppress, control and humiliate another individual or persons that may not be able to stand up for themselves (because of fear).
Bullying has, unfortunately, been an increasing battle world-wide in all ages of schooling. According to Bullying
The act of bullying is an unwanted or aggressive behavior which usually involves a child in a more powerful position, whether it be physical or social power, that is repeated over time. However, one egregious act can land the child in the middle of a bully label. Just as any behavior, bullying can be physical, verbal or a combination of the two. The physical acts include kicking, pinching, tripping or punching another student while verbal acts include name calling, taunting or derogatory references. Legitimate bully behavior is emotionally detrimental to a child’s
