The Brown Mountain Lights
Nestled in the Pisgah National Forest is Brown Mountain. Located in Western North Carolina, this mysterious location, which lies on the borders of Caldwell and Burke counties, has been the place of many sightings of a phantom light since the 1200’s. The story behind the lights was first told to me by my mother. As it went, a plantation owner went out hunting one night but never returned. He was a kind man and treated his slaves very well. Because of this, one of his slaves set out to search for him carrying a lantern. The light seen is said to be the slave with his lantern going out every night, even into death, combing the mountain searching for his master. After some investigation, I found other accounts of what the lights may represent. The earliest accounts of the Brown Mountain Lights were by Indian Tribes. The Cherokee and the Catawba believed the lights to be the torches of Indian women searching for their men following a ferocious battle between the two tribes. There was so much death and carnage, that their souls still haunt the mountain searching for their warriors. Another story tells

While some say the event can only be observed during clear weather, the night I saw the lights it was fairly cool, misting rain and very foggy. It was quite amazing to see. We had been sitting at Wisemans View for almost 4 hours and had almost given up when a faint glow appeared on the side of the mountain. We watched it move slowly down the mountain then a second light appeared. They both descended down until reaching the river at the bottom. The lights disappeared completely and after a few seconds reappeared on the other side of the river. The hairs on my arms and on the back of my neck stood up. We continued to watch the pair of lights move along the ridge until they just
Here are some of the legends about the “Dover lights.” One of the legends is about Spanish conquistadors back in the 1600s or 1700s looking for gold in Dover, Arkansas, but of course, they never found any. Another legend is about a Coal mine in the mountains. Miners were looking for coal. One day they were mining, and all of a sudden the cave ended up collapsing, and killing/ crushing several miners. Another legend is about a Native American burial ground, and the lights are the spirits of chiefs, or leaders, leading their people to the after life. And the last legend is about a lonely couple back in the 1800s, the wife fell ill, and her husband looked everywhere for a doctor. After the husband found a doctor, the doctor helped her, and nurtured her, the man, and wife are poor, but the husband was very good at making hunting weapons (guns, etc.) the man offered the doctor several dozen rifle bullets. The doctor agreed to take the bullets as payment. Time passed on, the doctor soon became successful with life, and he was very wealthy. One day he was looking through his attic, and he came across the bullets that the man gave

Imagine experiencing one of the largest genocides in history first-hand. Elie Wiesel explains in detail his experiences of Nazi Germany in his popular book Night. Wiesel walks through the horrifying truths of being kicked out of his home, getting thrown in and out of different concentration camps and witnessing innocent people burned to death, sent to the gas chambers and shot point blank, because of their religion or sexuality. Wiesel uses symbolism multiple times throughout Night to aid in reader's understanding of how tragic the events of the holocaust were.
Ancient Greece has oftentimes been called a "Crucible of Civilization." In fact, a few of the required video resources on the course page are titled that. ?Do a little research on the definition of the word crucible, and defend or refute that title for the Greeks. In other words, tell me if they deserve to be called that or not. Remember to state a position and defend it with evidence.
White Wolf Mountain is a place of mystery. The Mountain is a majestic monolith, rising above all others and overlooking the valley it created. It harbors a Power older than any living thing on Earth. The Power has grown over centuries, millennia, eons—never having been created, but having always existed. Nobody knows how it came to be, but they do know this: the Power is changing, evolving all the time. It sees all but it does not know all. The Power likes to learn. It likes to test its subjects and watch the outcome. The Power is a sentient being. Though it has no physical form and is confined to the Mountain, its influence extends far beyond its home of rock.
For many years astronomers and people alike have constantly heard about the observations and records of the Chinese and Europeans. No other culture can provide as much information as that gathered by the Chinese and Europeans, but there are many other cultures that observed and recorded the night sky, one of those being the Native Americans. During the last fifteen to twenty years archaeoastronomers have uncovered much concerning the beliefs and records of Native Americans. Unfortunately, the methods of keeping records of astronomical events were not as straight forward as the Chinese and Europeans. The Native Americans had to use what they could to record what they observed. Their records were found on rock

Hawthorne uses techniques like the use of religion to make us believe that the story is set during the seventeenth century. During this period of time, Puritans believed that the forest is associated with evil and would definitely be considered a no-man’s land especially during the night. In the story brown exclaims “There may be a devilish Indian behind every tree.” (Hawthorne 387) Considering that Brown decided to walk into a forest for a meeting, we can suggest that he is deeply aware of what he is doing and what he is about to encounter. As a man who resembles Brown appears in the forest with a carved serpent at the top of the staff we realize that this is in fact the devil himself disguised as a normal man in order to fool Brown.
He frowns intently at the sign taped on the inside of the door. 'Family emergency', it says.
We all have influences in our lives. So, it’s hard to think of only one single greatest influence in my life. If I had to pick one influence it would be going to Rocky Mountain High. I got the opportunity to go to Rocky Mountain High this summer. It’s a conference that high school youth groups from around the United States attend for a week to learn more about God. This happens every three years, so I am lucky enough to get to go again and I can’t wait until the summer of 2020.
Lights from the Canadian side lit up the falls in shades of blue, red, yellow and orange. It was so beautiful. There was a lot of mist from falls and with the reflection of the lights it sparkled in the air like a million diamonds. The pictures I captured do not show the sight
At first instance I thought that was about and explosion of some kind, but after a while a thought that it could be an asteroid probably not too big to represent any danger, but certainly was something with a lot of power to cover the darkness of the morning with a light that lasted about for at least 4 seconds. After this event I asked my daughter if she also experienced the phenomenon, but she was asleep contrary to the direction of the flashes. I’m the only witness of that moment.
