Bribe is an action that everyone agrees on being wrong, but I consider it an activity that is present in the society we live in. The practice of or better described action of bribing, has been very present in my life through many different ways. There are two instances of bribe that I am familiar with and which I am going to address: 1. Instant bribe which could be paying yourself out of a speeding ticket (doesn’t apply in US), and 2. Indirect bribe that can consist of a donation with the finality of getting something in return. Even though bribe is an act of delinquency it is still practiced, and I can say I have been on both ends, but why is it considered a crime when it is so accepted?
Bribe shouldn’t be so accepted when it is a crime:
Bribe is a crime.
People that commit crimes are shunned upon. Therefore if you bribe you should be shunned upon.
My argument is simple, Bribe is a crime, people in our society view it as one but don’t see the severity and damage that it causes. Being raised in Mexico has showed me many things, one of them has been to avoid the law. By avoiding the law I mean handling with the police. At first you would think that it is great to be able to know how to avoid it but once I got older I understood the severity of my actions. At the age of 14 I started driving and therefore started to deal with annoying police officers who would only pull me over to get money off of me because I looked young. At
OECD published Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions and Related Documents to prevent bribery and corruption. The aim of this convention was making the bribery of a foreign public official a crime under their laws (International Monetary Fund, OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions, 2001). This document recommends to member countries that:
Under 18 U.S.C. § 666(a)(1)(b), a defendant is guilty of bribery if they accept something of value of $5000 or more from another person with the intent to be influenced in their actions as an agent of such government. But this circuit has yet to decide if specific quid-pro-quo intent is required for a conviction. In deciding whether this intent is an element of the crime, will the mere inference of agreement suffice or the more heightened standard of an express agreement?
Bribery weakens competition and diminishes free trade which can affect companies, shareholders, and stakeholders. Jacob Franklin knowingly extended bribes to governments and contractors while knowing it was against company policy. Jacob engaged in bribery even though he knew it was wrong because he was advised that it was common practice at Richard Drilling. “In 1977, President Carter signed the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). The law made it illegal to bribe foreign officials. The maximum punishments for violators were set at $100,000 and 5 years in jail. Companies can be fined millions” (Bredeson, 2012, p.301). Not only was extending the bribe against company policy, it was against law and could cost Jacob and Richardson Drilling money and freedom.
Chapter Three, entitled Bribes and Threats, from Beyond Discipline discussed many different tools such as coercion, punishment, and rewards being used for disciplining. These specific tools are counterintuitive and result in temporary compliance or even sometimes extreme behaviors. Because of these tools being used, it leads to disastrous outcomes and makes the teachers and schools uninviting and unproductive.
Bribery – it’s a form of corruption. This is the straightforward use of financial muscle to gain unfair advantage over others. An example would be attempting to gain planning permission by giving

First, it is important to define what corruption is. The term, “corruption” covers a broad range of human actions,
Citizens take pride in their economic independence, mexico still values community in its cities and towns, its plazas and schools, and its work organizations. In Mexican culture the expectation of working and socializing together is a key component of society, and has a basis in the strong ties formed within the family. However, lack of faith in the government is a result of widespread political corruption. Even at the lowest levels, police officers readily accept bribes from those wishing to avoid the nuisance of a traffic ticket or a night in prison. In recent years, the government has begun addressing this corruption by reducing the number of state-owned businesses and calling on Mexicans to refuse to give bribes. This, however, has proven difficult, and the progress has been slow.
There have been countless cases where police officers have been tied to which relate to the theft of evidence, weapons, drugs and other items from the evidence room (Vibes). One of these cases was in Brooklyn, Illinois, where the Police Department was raided by a number of other law enforcement agencies and local news crews witnessed police from different agencies carrying equipment, computers, weapons and records out of the building and driving away with them to find evidence. (Vibes). What is even worse is when someone high in the government takes bribes because of greed. One major example of this is when Spiro T. Agnew was caught. He was an American politician who served as the 39th Vice President of the United States, under President Richard Nixon (Trex). Agnew had accepted a massive $147,500 in bribes while serving as Maryland's governor and the Vice President (Trex). This show even the highest people can have greed, like Agnew.
Prometheus is an important person in Greek mythology because he gives the Greeks some of the valued necessities of life. He did many things in his life, according to the Greeks; he gave them fire after Zeus had taken it away from humans. Prometheus was commonly known as a clever trickster for the tricks he played on others. Overall he was a great hero that gave humans a couple of the very important things needed in life. His story is full of adventure and he shows a lot of courage. He also helps show what was important to the Greeks and what was valued like fire and intelligence.
Bribery is a problem for many different reasons, also. Justice cannot be served if the police are willing to be “bought” by the criminals. An investigator is supposed to protect the community and do what he has to in order to make sure that justice is being served. This cannot be done if he is on the criminals’ pay roll. It can lower community moral, believing that if someone has enough money, they can just buy their way out of anything. The community may also lose faith in the justice system all together, believing that whoever harmed them, or whatever be the case, will go free because the police are working both sides of the fence. There is no case if the investigator is letting the guilty go free.
One of the largest issues that democracy in Latin America faces is bribery. This however is not entirely the fault of the corrupt politician trying to stay in power. Voters are also to blame for accepting these bribes. By accepting the
The corruption in the government, one of the main problems in the majority of countries in the world, causing death, poverty and impunity in the life of the persons. People think that government corruption is just buying votes to win the elections, but this is just a little part of the corruption. The corruption of the government has been present for a long time ago, covering a great variety of problems in the society, like the stealing the money from the people, alliances with the narco, using the power just a favor of the politicians, increasing the prices of food, fuel and public services just to make more money. The people do not have the necessary services to survive and if the services are available they are expensive. In some parts of the world the government is colluding with the delinquency, in the case of Mexico, the government is colluded with the narco. The corruption in Mexico has permeated several segments of society like political, economic, and social. Also it has greatly affected the country’s legitimacy, transparency, accountability, and effectiveness; knowing the majority of the people of
The broadest, most suitable definition which exists today simply states that corruption is any illegal act performed by a politician to produce results which would have been otherwise impossible (Ebbe). In some cases, government, politicians, and criminals entwine for the sake of amassing money in order to secure their own jobs. This form of corruption was apparent in the mafia’s association with the
