Brian Rosenbarger was the entrepreneur that we chose to interview to gain more insight into what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Brian is the owner of R&R construction and it is a sole proprietorship that he started in 1999. Since he has been in business for 17 years, he was able to offer a lot of advice to us as young entrepreneurs. We will discuss the advice he gave more in depth later. There were quite a few things that stood out to us about Brian that allowed us to better understand the life of an entrepreneur. It was very prevalent to us that Brian is extremely determined. He actually had dropped out of Jeffersonville High School in the 1990’s. Although he didn’t finish his high school career, it did not stop him from …show more content…
Not only does he know about construction, but he is also really good at engineering and handling mechanical issues. When asked about these topics, he said that they have always come easy to him. When he has spare time he also hunts raccoons with his dog. He has been able to train his dog well enough to make him the 5th ranked dog in the U.S. and 4th in Indiana. This additional passion he has helps him to earn an extra $2,000-$3,000 on the weekends.
We believe that his business is interesting, because he not only operates his business in Indiana but he also works in Virginia. He has to make several trips a month to Virginia to oversee projects and things of that nature. One of the great things about his business is that he sometimes is able to take his family along with him to Virginia. This allows him to still have the work-life balance that he needs. As with most entrepreneurs, Brian has to put in long hours. Another thing that is interesting about his business is that he doesn’t have to pay for any kind of marketing. He has been able to use word-of-mouth and networking to generate more customers. Marketing is a big expense for most companies, and it is interesting that he was able to be successful and maintain his business without it.
He wanted to own his own business in order to make a better life for him and his family. Brian has certainly done just that. The main reason that
Joe emerged his business by perusing his desire to run a business on his own. Together Joe and Larry took the risk and began Bannes-Shaughnessy Inc. in 1972 (Katz, 2011). Despite their prior experience and low amount of capital they began with, within five years they had received their first million dollar contract, proving their existence. From here on out their firm grew, so did their success, and in turn were helping the community. Joe was compassionate and his work and business reflected that. Their families were benefiting from their success as well as their own lives. They were perusing their dreams, and once Joe became the sole owner, he was able to take the business to the next level. It is as if he was beginning the growth stage again within his own company, he could now continue on focusing on the expansion and diversification of his
For my interview I decided to interview my father, Joe Malich. Joe has owned three businesses, Malich Motors, Powerboats Northwest, and The Boat Shop Northwest. His most recent business is The Boat Shop Northwest which is a small boat store compared to Powerboats Northwest which filled bankruptcy in 2009 after the economy crashed. For the purpose of this interview I asked questions based around Powerboats Northwest because it was a bigger company and as an owner he had more employees. Growing up he sold anything he could get his hand on to make money whether it is motorcycles, jet skis, or cars. Eventually in 1997, he opened Malich Motors and was successful in the car industry w but decided to do something no one ever thought of in the northwest,
Brian appreciates the nature so much that he volunteered to go into the wilderness and
Brian takes pride in being successful business owner, which motivates his involvement in the farming community.
He was struck by a porcupine after he threw his hatchet at it. The spikes of the porcupine were all up his leg and it was very painful for him. After Brian took each and every spike out of him he just felt as though he could not survive and he just sat down and cried. He cried for a very long time, and after he realized that he did not accomplish anything, and that he was not going to get anything done by sitting down and crying about it. Brian realized that crap happens in life, and what shapes you as a person is how you move through it.
He learns respect, patience, and that anything can be challenge. An example of one of these lessons in is chapter 13 when the text states “Nothing is that easy. Not in this place. Nothing is easy.” This quote shows Brian knowing and accepting that he can’t it expect things to be easy for him.
He never made it college. He saw a dream and college just wasn’t part of it.He worked many
Brian has so many things to be proud of and he always follows his family motto about “never giving up”. That is a motto everyone in life should have, you will face obstacles in life, but why let them defeat you, push and fight against them just like Brian
Persistence doesn’t come naturally to nor is someone born with it. However, since Brian has to stay alive, he has to become persistent, and he does. An example from the text that shows Brian is persistent is on page 58 where Brian is in desperate need of food. “He walked slowly -- still a bit pained in his joints and weak from hunger-- up along side of the lake … He watched the birds fly, their color bright slach in solid green, and in this way he found the berries.” This example shows why Brian is persistent because even though he was in pain he kept going to find the berry tree. Instead of giving up, Brian kept going to reach his goal-- to get to the berry tree. Another example from the novel that shows Brian is persistent is when he made a fire. The process of making the fire took him two hours. A little spark appeared here and there, but didn’t start a solid fire. He was persistent enough to keep hacking at the wood. Finally, after about three hours, Brian created a fire. He created a beautiful fire. A fire that he would protect, a fire that would protect him. This shows
Les Harper was called to serve in BYUH as senior missionary. He grew up in an entrepreneurship family. His grandfather, parents, and siblings all had built their own business. He is proud of his entrepreneurship gene. He shared his family story and his own experiences to teach principles about what makes a successful entrepreneur.
The key character traits that are exposed include perseverance, determination and also creativity. Brian show’s perseverance when things are not easy or don’t go his way. The text supports this is the many times it seemed nature itself was trying to make Brian’s life harder or to even kill him. An example of this is when a bear shows up in his camp in the dark of night and begins eating his food. The beer ends up throwing him twenty feet in the direction of the lake causing many injuries. Brian is very hurt and it isn’t easy for despite everything he keeps on going after the bear encounter. Brian shows determination many times throughout the story. When something seems impossible he keeps on going and pushes through. An example is when he begins trying to make a stronger bow. He repeatedly fails but does not give in. Creativity, if Brian did not possess this trait he couldn't have survived more than a week. He used creativity when doing so many things. These things included the area of the lake that he made a wall that traps in fish for him to spear and get an easy meal. He also uses creativity when designing his shelter door to keep animals out. After having various unwelcome guests, he decided to do something about it. All in all Brian uses the three traits Perseverance, determination and creativity many times to last in the
* He got back together with his highschool sweetheart and he tried to provide a better life for his children. He wanted to built his own business and to be his own boss. But uneducated wife bothered him to discipline his children. The emotion of his vision forced him to overcome these challanges and
He admits that the reason that he was in detention was because he was going to commit suicide and he brought the gun to school. He said that he attempted to kill himself but he couldn’t pull the trigger. His (flair) gun went off in his locker. He has suicidal ideation. He thought that suicide was the logical thing to do and he went one step beyond thinking about it and attempted. He just couldn’t pull the trigger. He has the ultimate when it comes to parental monitoring. His parents are probably really intelligent and this is why the push him so hard academically. The reason I think this is because his mother’s license plate was “EMC2” and she made sure that he knew that this (detention) was a one time thing and he should use his time wisely to study. Much like Claire, I feel that Brian is not much of a risk taker. He is a very jumpy kid and is easily told what to do by just about everybody in the movie.
