At a first glance at this book, my immediate thought was how boring it was going to be. It seemed like any other textbook and I was not interested because in college, I don’t plan on majoring in business. But as soon as I started reading the introduction, the book caught my attention. The imagery the author provided by narrating a story to imagine got me interested in what the book had to say. I learned many things from this book, as well as recapped prior knowledge, about entrepreneurship. Therefore, I do believe Shark Tank: Just Start Your Business is a great teaching and learning tool to better understand entrepreneurship. Every couple of chapters, a page or two is dedicated to each of the Sharks. A background story is given on each, their “claim to fame”, and some entrepreneurship advice. For example, Lori Greiner talks about how passion and drive is the key to being a successful entrepreneur. Passion for what you do will keep you going and your drive will allow you do have the self-discipline and self-motivation to get things done. She pointed out how she has had to work thirty-six hours straight many times before.

There are many “Industrial Tycoons” nowadays, but few compare to some of the great Entrepreneurs many years before. During the year 1870 the oil company, Standard Oil, was created to help heat people’s home’s, keep trains running, and provide light. John D. Rockefeller, the creator of this Oil company, was one of the greatest Industry Tycoons of all time, another great industry tycoon is Ellen Degeneres. Ellen has done a great amount in a short period of time. Both of these people have done great things, and kept people interested.
Earle Charlton was not the typical entrepreneur. Scholars state, “Earle Charlton was the archetypal complete entrepreneur in his personality, outlook and actions. He was complete in his dedication in that he projected his interests and concerns beyond the enterprise to the welfare of his employees and the greater community (forward, Page 1). Unlike most entrepreneurs Earle Charlton didn’t just care about making money he got more satisfaction from treating everyone with respect and making everyone happy. By having this mind set Earle he was really successful when working with his business partners. For example when working with Frank wool worth and Seymour Knox Earle accepted everyone’s ideas, and learned to compromise so that they can get along and make their business empire work.
Dr. King’s trial was one of the most unprofessional investigations in my opinion. The steps taken to obtain physical and forensic evidence were not normal procedure. The FBI and local police did not secure the forensic evidence and protect it like in our present time. Fingerprints are a form of forensic evidence to identify an individual in association with the findings. Francis Galton classified many fingerprint patterns before Dr. King’s assassination but they took it more serious on how they collected the evidence.
But how did this South-African born entrepreneur make his way into virtually every technological industry on the planet? How did he become the space-traveling, futuristic car selling, loudmouthed computer genius we all know today?
This chapter of People’s is titled “Unreported.” Reading the title of this chapter, I was unsure what the chapter was going to contain, but once I started reading, I did not like this chapter very much. The main topic of the chapter is that the government has a lot of ties with the media and in turn, the government controls what the media puts out to benefit themselves. In my opinion there is no way to prove that the government is manipulating the media. Obviously, I am not in the White House and I don’t know exactly what goes on behind the scenes, but I think there are a lot of assumptions made in this chapter.

I have always been interested in “doing my own thing” or, better known as, entrepreneurship. In high school, I would buy T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats in bulk. I’d embroider little emblems on them and mark up the price by 100%. People at school would buy $1 shirts and pay $9 for my craftsmanship. However, I wanted bigger and better things. I channeled Andrew Carnegie in my approach to business: why just stop at my little venture when I could vertically integrate and market for myself? I decided to invest all my money in a new cause and thus, my own social media marketing company was born. The skills I’ve learned in starting my company is something that cannot be taught. I would relish the opportunity to grow and learn at an institution like The Stephen M. Ross School of Business that understands the importance of innovation and exploration.

Taking this entrepreneur course has been the best thing I could do for myself. Not only did it grow my mindset, but it taught me how to focus and concentrate on meeting my goals. At the beginning of this semester I could not let go the negative self-image I had of myself. Since I have been able to reflect on who I am I am slowly able to let go of that past image. I now know that I am more than able to reach my goals with the proper mindset and skills. I have come a long way since the beginning of this course. At the beginning of this course we were asked what is most important in life, and when I chose myself I knew after that reflections that I was off to a great start. Putting myself first these last few months has been the best thing I
At the beginning of the course I had only had basic entrepreneur knowledge, I understood the traits, and the amount of thought put into a business. I understood a entrepreneur needed to be able to set goals and had to establish connections and business partners. I was actually lucky enough to have taken a entrepreneur class in highschool. Which taught me lots on how an entrepreneur business is started. It also taught me the required determination and hard work it takes to be a entrepreneur.
Entrepreneurship is one of the hardest investments to make because it requires more than just money. Consequently, it is also an ownership investment with extremely large potential returns. By creating a product or service and selling it to people who want it, entrepreneurs can make huge personal fortunes. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and one of the world's richest men, is a prime example.
