The outsiders. An astonishing book, written by S. E. Hinton in 1967. It shows how teenagers have to deal with change 50 years ago. And it is still very relatable today, the outsiders show many forms of bravery, Like physical bravery when people jump in to save someone, moral bravery; to do what's right. Even if it's unpopular. Moral courage. To do what's morally correct. And this book has some amazing examples of all of these. Darry is a Greaser and will defend his brothers from the socs that are not as nice. Darry is an outstanding role model, Darry is brave and shows heroism. Even after both, his parents are dead. Takes care of his brothers and Ponyboy, sacrificed his own education to school get a job and also make sure that the council didn't split all apart and into homes. He saved Ponyboy and Johnny from the fire. Even though he was hurt himself he would do anything in his power to help his brothers. Even if he can't show it through his own words. He is willing to fight to protect the ones he cares about, and that is what I can safely consider bravery. …show more content…
Randy tried to kill Ponyboy at one point but instead saved him from dying. Randy said that he didn't want to go to an event called "a rumble" this event is a fight against gangs. The socs, versus the greasers. Randy showed courage by talking Randy tells Ponyboy that "greasers will still be greasers and socs will still be socs" he also shows courage by going to Ponyboys house while ponyboy is sick and tells Ponyboy to think about his family before he thinks about himself because Ponyboy is trying to believe two of his friends are not dead. Randy shows courage in these situations because he is trying to help someone he doesn't really know and someone who isn't related to
For example, stated by Ponyboy on page 4, it states that “Darry would kill me if I got in trouble with the police.”. Ponyboy knows that Darry would do something if Ponyboy did something like that. In addition to this, there is also one more example showing how Darry maintains leadership through maturity. With the level of maturity Darry has, it produces a higher level of leadership for the gang and his brothers. Stated on page 38 by Ponyboy, “... and Darry, getting old before his time trying to run a family and holding on to two jobs and never having fun…”.
The Outsiders was such an interesting, sad, and dramma book and movie that a lot of people have seen. It included deaths and characters saving lives. While you read this you will understand more and more why some of the characters are heros.
The Outsiders is a book and movie about the greasers and socs during the 60s. Most people who read or watched it have a favorite character. They pick this character because they like the way they act, the way they look, or even if they are a hero. Each greaser has done multiple things to make them look like a hero, but Dallas Winston is the biggest hero out of them all. Heros are described as people who are brave, helpful, and courageous. This describes Dally because he is always their for his friends to fall back on, he has saved many people from getting hurt, and he helps others even if he doesn’t have too.
Additionally, the character, Darrel Curtis, can be considered a hero because he cared deeply for his brothers, sacrificing his future
Life has many obstacles, but if you have the courage to go on, you can overcome them. Courage isn't something gained overnight, or immediately born with, because it requires the skill and determination, as well as bravery, to charge headfirst without hesitation. In the coming-of-age novel, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, it focuses on a young 14-year old Greaser named Ponyboy, who develops the courage and maturity throughout his life when he hits several rough patches. One example of Ponyboy's courage is on page 91, when he immediately charges into the church to save the kids that were caught in the fire. He knows that Johnny and him started it, and they both pushed their way through the entire building, describing it as "a red hell," and that they might drown in the
Being able to stand up for someone when they need it is a act of bravery that not everyone could do because standing up for someone consists of being bravery and
For most people, fear is a strong motivator to accomplish goals, do well on a test, or on other circumstances that could give people trouble. In one of my sports, I play, Cross Country, fear motivates me to work harder, run faster, and possibly gets me better results. When I hear, see, or know someone is behind me, I don't want the embarass of them beating me, or encouraging other people when they see that happen, they think they can pass me to get a better time or to pass someone so I don't get critism or live down that worse time or place. In the book, The Outsiders, fear plays an important role throughout the book.
“Ill get them, don’t worry” I started a dead run for the church, and the man caught my arm. “I’ll get them. You kids stay out!’’ In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton Johnny and Ponyboy show courage many ways. This took place back in 1965 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There were a group of guys that were all greasers and there were soc’s as well. The greasers lived on the east side and the socs lived on the west side. The book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton the group of greasers are living through rough times. Ponyboy and Johnny are two of the most courageous characters in the book. They saved children in the burning church; Johnny killed Bob to save Ponyboy from drowning etc.
Darry is a hero because he gave up his dreams to care for his brothers. He gave up his school scholarship, he has lots of responsibilities for his age, and he also works two jobs to be able to support his family. In chapter 1, it said that Darry has two jobs and didn't have enough money to go to college, if he were to go to college he would still be in school and gotten his scholarship but his brothers would be in a boys home or a foster house and would be separated. In chapter 3, it said that Darry's parents past away, since his parents are dead he has a lot of responsibility such as feeding him and his brothers, working to get paid to support him and his brothers, and needs to protect them from any threats. In chapter 1, it said he worked two jobs which means that he is spending most of his days working instead of getting his scholarship, which is really big because
“Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard time when the hero within us is revealed” Heroes! Anybody can be a hero. You shouldn’t judge anybody by looks. Stereotyping is not right somebody could be really mean
“The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.” The Outsiders is a novel by S.E. Hinton about a group of boys who face many challenges and hardships together. The novel is based off adversity and how although it could have negative impacts it could still bring some positivity like finding the real image of actions, overcoming fears, and bringing a family together.
In light of the comparative study between Growing Up Asian in Australia and a novel of choice, I have chosen The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton as my novel. The Outsiders is a classic dramatic novel that was first published in 1967 and was set in Oklahoma, USA. The novel is a coming-of-age story that focus around a gang of young boys called the greasers, and is narrated by Ponyboy Curtis, the main protagonist. The major conflicts that appeared in the novel were man vs man, man vs society and man vs self( internal conflict).
The Outsiders, a novel by S.E. Hinton, shares moralities that encourage themes of brotherhood and heroism with literary elements - which includes setting, point of view, characterization, conflict, plot, and theme. Each element influences the big idea of flawed heroes and friendships to readers. With her powerful novel, Hinton is able to express the necessity of unity and brotherhood within a community, despite differences in classes, ages, or ideals.
Who do you think is a hero or has shown heroism through their life. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy’s interests and behavior contrasts his gang. For example, he hates to fight unless he has to, unlike his friends who fight for the fun of it or because everyone is doing it. Though he is the oddball of the group he still displayed great heroism throughout the book. In S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, Ponyboy displays many heroic traits and is a risk-taker. He shows great courage, his personality, and his actions are respected by many people.
Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don’t always know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that took a great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn’t know what lie ahead of him. One of his many good quotes he said, “The most effective way to do it, is to just do it”, (Lindburgh 1).
