I used brainstorming to begin my topics. Reviewing things I had knowledge about and interested me in researching further. Then I began to list the subjects that I could discuss and knew that research existed to confirm my position. By reading the assignment, I was able to review the process of writing and narrow down my list to just 5 topics. By looking at my audience, I was able to reduce the number of topics. Also, in our reading assignment I was able to look at general statements or limited topics and determine if each of my subjects were general or limited (Vandermey, 2012). Leadership is something that I must use every day in my career. When people watch how you lead, one’s actions must show concern for others and inspire them to do
Taking this course and reading most of the book from Peter G. Northouse as well as listening to the lectures and videos that have been throughout, I have learned that there are many different aspects of leadership and there are many different definitions and aspects that can change those definitions. According to Seeman (1960), “leadership is acts by persons which influence other persons in a shared direction” (p. 3). This is the definition that I have been following my whole life. Wherever I go I thought that whatever you do as long as you have followers who tend to follow the same direction that makes you a leader. I never thought of the actions being right or wrong or the followers going down their own path I was simply stuck on this definition. After reading the book and learning there was more to that definition I was able to come up with a definition of leadership that I have been living by since this past spring and it has elevated my leadership skills to a great height. I think that leadership has three components: to listen, to inspire and to empower. Since becoming a president of an organization here at Florida State University those three things have made being a President so much easier. I have learned a lot from others just by simply listening to what they say rather than being focused only on my needs. It has caused me to learn from others and really understand people’s point of view. Being an inspiration is important. As a leader you want the people that
Before the housing bubble burst, there were home loans that were approved with ITINs and in many cases lenders are now requiring SSN to re-modify/refinance. Part of this research could include ways of accessing and opening credit for recent immigrants and what are ways financial institutions are ensuring that credit continues to be available to immigrants. Sources would include research into ITIN loans and articles about immigrant lending.
Leadership can be defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Being from a small town, opportunities to show leadership come few and far between. However when they do, they provide a learning experience that is hard to find anywhere else. Over the years, I have had many opportunities to show my leadership skills both on the job as a student supervisor at Tim Hortons and as a youth is the small community of Wawa.
Leadership is both an inherent value and is forged overtime. Inherently, some people are born good leaders and intrinsically have good values imbedded. Leadership traits can be honed and developed overtime; you never stop learning to be a good leader. Leadership is the cornerstone of all successfully run organizations and is what drives stewardship to successfully carry on the organizations mission statement. Throughout one’s life experiences, they come across some great leaders and some not-so great leaders. Those life experiences transcend one to become a better leader through experiential circumstances.
This assignment was definitely fun to brainstorm and create. I am going to start off with the boys first. One of my favorites is, the farm-raised country boys. They drive big trucks, go hunting, and say " yee-yee." I wouldn't say they are dumb or unintelligent, but sometimes whenever I have a conversation with them I lose a few brain cells. My school also has a fair share of the jock boys. They are the classic few who post the "rise and grind" gym selfies every day. Lastly, the few and the rare, the intellectuals. They are truly a rare sighting at Watonga High School. Not only are they greatly appreciated by the staff, but also me as they are great to have a conversation with.
For many years, I have been told by teachers, family, and friends that I am a good leader. Until fairly recently, I had never truly thought about what it means to be a good leader and just took it as a compliment. Leadership is an intangible concept which cannot be properly outlined in a dictionary, but one which must be formed and explained only through one’s own philosophies and experiences.
All humans are flawed in that their brains immediately want to come to one conclusion or another and can subconsciously lead themselves to a conclusion even when attempting to reduce cognitive and perceptual biases. To combat this, there will be the need to implement checks and balances on the human brain in order to ensure that there are few or no biases being reached by the brain. Much of this can be done by exercising some of the tactics of checks and balances as highlighted by readings this week. A simple concept, it states; that in respect to the outcome of an analysis, if the opposite outcome was reached would I, the analyst be surprised by that outcome? This is an interesting method to check the human brain and ensure that a thought provoking and rational decision is reached. The perception of a situation by the human mind is something that is more fragile the longer the mind is exposed to that perception. As it is based on the expectation of what the situation is, it is difficult to stop the mind from creating a picture of
Leadership is an important aspect of life as it pushes us to create leaders out of followers or become leaders for a change. Leadership serves distinct purposes for everyone, but the quote “leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality” by American scholar Warren Bennis directly relates to my views regarding leadership. Bennis shows how a leader guides others to victory by successfully helping them fulfil their plans. As a leader in multiple situations, I believe that a leader always has to prevent others from falling and motivate them to create their aspirations into reality. If a leader fails to do so, he or she decreases the confidence and morale of its followers and averts the followers from becoming leaders in the future.
Leadership is, and always has been, a vital aspect of social and economic constructs. It is essential to the survival of societies, industries, organizations, and virtually any group of individuals that come together for a common purpose. However, leadership is difficult to define in a single, definitive sense. As such, theories of leadership, what constitutes a great leader, and how leaders are made have evolved constantly throughout history, and still continue to change today in hopes of improving upon our understanding of leadership, its importance, and how it can be most effective in modern organizational cultures.
Leadership is something many people choose to do in their daily lives. Leadership means different things to different people. For example, some people think of it as guiding ,and helping people and some people think of it as being in charge and making people do things for you. Leadership to me means: encountering more obstacles in life, helping others become better, and trying to improve more. As Bill Gates once said ,”As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.” (Bill Gates). We should help other people get better and lead them to create more leaders.
Leadership is a fundamental part of everyday life! Leadership and the concepts and practices associated to it play an intricate role in the society in which we live in. This one aspect of life is so vital to the existence of the human race that is taught to children at a very young age. As an adult, I can look back over my childhood and recall many memories that have fashioned the person that I am today. The most prominent memories, which I can recall from my childhood, include hot summer days, riding my bicycle, and childhood games. As I look back over my childhood, I reminisce over childhood games like Follow the leader, Simon says, and Mother may I. Now that I am an adult, I can see the life lessons
After attending the first lecture in regards with the meaning of leadership, I found that this session has expanded my understanding of what leadership is. In an organization, being a leader not only having the ability to direct or guide people to do something but also the ability to influence and support among people in regards with achieving the objectives of the organization. Based on my experience in the workplace, a leader has an important role to ensure that all of the people get the right direction and supports in order to accomplish the goals. Regarding that concern, I have learned from my supervisor how to organize and motivate people
Outstanding leadership should be a way of life for leaders. Leaders should strive to be the preeminent leader they can be for their followers, co-workers, their bosses, and the organization as a whole. Consequently, how a leader leads, their leadership style or characteristics will affect or leave an impression on the people around then and can have a lasting effect on a follower. Leadership is a significant part of my daily routine. I continually strive to be better than some of the individuals that have influenced my life. Moreover, I have had both outstanding experiences and terrible experiences with different leaders that have crossed my path. Amazingly, sometimes it is difficult to differentiate which types have
Leadership is “a process whereby an individual influence a group of individuals to achieve common goals” (Lewis, J., Lewis, M., & Packard, 2012, p. 235). The people that I have come across in my childhood, in high school, and serving in ministry have significantly influenced my definition of leadership. I have seen my model on leadership has been concrete on this experiences and growth as a result of their influence in my life. Therefore, I look at leadership as a potential and ability to contribute significantly to an organization, community, individuals and to the whole society. In that past at many stages of my life, I have experienced significant contributions, sometimes in a formal set up and sometimes in absolutely informal manner. Therefore, in this paper, I will discuss the experiences that have shaped the way I approach the concept of leadership.
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human
