Blonde is, at first glance, soft; it feels pliant and yielding in a way that Ocean’s past works haven’t. But just beyond that surface is a hardened core. Ocean’s voice, always easy above all else, often sounds stony but apologetic, like he’s talking to someone he’s afraid of hurting. Blonde is both full and empty; love is never allowed to exist without lack. On "Ivy," a pretty, lilting song, Ocean sings, "I thought that I was dreaming when you said you love me," but, in case you thought this was a love song, he follows with, "The start of nothing." Ocean’s vulnerability often feels at odds with his sense of self-preservation. On "Pink and White," a carefree pop track: "Won't let you down when it's all ruined." Beyoncé is featured in this song,
No, I wouldn’t allow this gorilla to sign with the Oakland Raiders because they are a scientifically created robot. The scientifically created robot never makes mistake like human makes, so the football game will be unfair because the gorilla is seven hundred pounds people can’t stop the gorilla. The football is not only one team game because if Oakland Raiders sign with the gorilla than they will win every game, the scientifically created gorilla is faster than human and they never get tired like a human. According to the passage, it says “Meanwhile the gorilla has made it clear he would never intentionally injure any opponent”. The shows that gorilla wouldn’t intentionally injure the opponent but they could accidentally injure opponent which
On May 24, 1888, Ben Hagen Jr. and Millie Pinkston-Hagen gave birth to Ida in Huntingburg, Indiana (Backer 1). Although they had Ida in Huntingburg, the Hagen family did not live in the Pinkston Settlement; Ben owned land near the Pinkston farm, just not on the property. Though an active farmer, Ben Hagen also practiced ministry at the Missionary Baptist Church. He continued farming and preaching even after the majority of the other settlers had diminished. (Taylor 1) Ida’s father went on to serve as a member of the 100th United States Colored Infantry in the Civil War (Hackman 2). Ida’s mother, Millie Pinkston, was the daughter of Emmanuel Pinkston Jr. and his second wife, Anna Eberhart (Hackman 1). Because of this connection with the settlement,
I pour the Orange Juice into the plastic cups with the lids for Britt, TJ, and Jason. I pour the Orange Juice into Sippy cups for Bree and Brandi. Lance gets the Orange Juice in his bottle, I grab my mocha and sit down to feed myself and Lance. After breakfast Britt brushes her teeth and puts on her shoes.
Pickle Sandwich My show pitch for a single season program is a very unique one and may not be all that popular, but it’s still worth a try. This premise of the show is that a young boy named Jeremy who lives in Baltimore eats a pickle from his local convenience store when he’s 16, and it’s his first ever pickle. He falls in love with its sour taste and crunchy texture and begins to craves pickles every minute of every day. With this new found craving, he begins to search nonstop for restaurants that serve new pickle dishes, fried pickles, pickles on burgers, etc. The plot twist comes in hard on the second episode.
In the mock press release from The Onion, the author satirically mocks how products are marketed to consumers. Playing on the stereotype of gullible consumers ready to believe anything they hear about a product is true, the author creates a parody of typical medical commercials. The author combines many satirical strategies and adds in humorous moments in order to critique ad campaigns that use false claims and the ignorant customers that buy from them. In the article, the writer lays on a false sense of ethos.
“The Office” is a critically acclaimed comedy television series spanning nine seasons. The show is a “mockumentary” a style of satirical comedy that is crass in nature. But uses its platform to shed light on the hazards of societal norms that reinforce stigmatic ideals. This particular show follows salesmen’s lives around the workplace in a dying work field of a small town.
This article by “The Onion” shows many satirical strategies, mostly hyperbole to satirize how products, in this case Magna Soles, are marketed to consumers. This article is filled with hyperbole and a lot of big words that I have never heard before, like “kilofrankels” and “comfortrons.” This makes me laugh because I don’t think most of the words I’ve never heard before in hear are real, and how much they are exaggerated in sentences to try and show the consumers that these are the best shoes in the world. The hyperbole being shown here is just like the exaggeration of McDonalds or Burger King commercials, with the giant burgers all shiny and juicy filled with colorful lettuce, tomato and cheese, just how it is portraying the Magna Soles.
What is a satire? When is satire used and how is it used? Are there any books with satire? In Gustavo Arellano's informative/memoir, Orange County: A Personal History, he shows satire in different forms through his personal experiences and historical events. He talks about the process of how they were able to get here and how his career started and grew over time as well as his opinion on other people's actions, expressing his feelings through satire.
ABC's family sitcom Speechless follows JJ DiMeo, a teenage boy with cerebral palsy, and his family as they navigate a new school and deal with coming of age issues between the three children. The central family consists of JJ's brother and sister, Ray and Dylan, his parents, Jimmy and Maya, and eventually his aide, Kenneth. Speechless's representations of disability have gone over well with large audiences, and the show draws praise from non-disabled critics and from critics within the disability community. Although the show avoids a certain extent of politically radical stances, it does a number of things that destabilize harmful misconceptions and question both societal and institutional norms. Speechless does not fully situate itself as
Throughout the prompt The Onion the strategies used in the article for satirization is sarcasm, comparison, hyperbole, sophisticated diction, and mocking language. Through the use of the satire they critique the way in the world people are easily manipulated into to thinking they need this “amazing” or “the best new product out there.” Applying multiple exaggerated claims and sophisticated diction to the article mocks the way product are advertised in the world. The satire is critiquing the way we are advertising a product and how people are manipulated into buying the product.
The Hortoise and the Tare 2500 A.D-You may wonder why our names are so different, well we live in a world of mutes (mutants) and norms (normals) . During WW3 humans destroyed our world by drowning it in tons of atomic waste. It took 500 years to (sort of) heal, but the world isn’t as it was so long ago. There are shark-bears, alligator-birds, chicken-pigs, some haven’t been affected by the waste, we call those animals norms. The world is a mess compared to what it was like 500 years ago.
Heathers: How it relates to today On Thursday February 15, 2018, I had the honors of seeing the musical Heathers. This was the first time I had seen a musical from the theater department here at UNCG. Initially, I was nervous about the content I would see as well as how the theater department would execute the musical. When the house opened up, I was amazed!
People, innately, are very naïve. They often times have no idea what is happening around them. They listen to higher ups or TV “doctors”, only because they think they know what they are doing. What happens when you pit an ignorant consumer up against a “knowledgeable” marketing team? An increase in cash flow, of course.
The article Emotional Obama Tearfully Thanks Trump For Granting Him Citizenship is satirizing how Donald Trump is most concerned about confirming everyone's citizenship in America; he determines this by racially profiling people. Anyone would want to satirize Donald Trump because he is extremely rude, his rules are obscured, and he is tremendously insulting. In the satire that was created it talks about how Obama wanted to thank Donald Trump for confirming his citizenship in America.
