Reaching a height of more than 150 feet, the “gusher” was more powerful than any previously seen in the world. A booming oil industry soon grew up around the oil field at Spindle top, and many of the major oil companies in America.

Hundreds upon thousands of millionaires, new cities and towns, and a plethora of jobs are birthed out of one black goo. Oil. Ever since January of 1901, oil has been spewing out of hundreds of oil rigs all over Texas, bringing cities and people with them. Oil changed Texas from a place with very few cities to a place with cities all over. The oil would be found in a remote place and within the month 2000 people would live there, hoping to get rich from oil.

In the 1900s drove 15,000 oil companies when they first discovered oil in the spindletop texas.There were a lot of benefits of this discovery like higher pay for a lot of the workers, Better football teams and better growth in a lot of their universities. Oil has created new opportunities such as college for people who want to or need to have for their jobs. People now have a better chance of going to college than they use to. The legislature had given the two schools UT and Texas A&M two million acres of land. When oil came into town in 1923 it was a booming business. Now that the oil had came into town the oil and land produced 4.4 billion dollars for the university of UT and Texas A&M. Oil money from land grants helped develop higher education levels in Texas. Overall oil has made a huge impact on school in a great way.

Texas will be known for there huge amount of oil. Oil is one of the many reasons we are more social active. Oil brought social changes all threw Texas. Three important social changes oil brought to Texas in the 1900’s is the impact it had on minorities, the impact of the community coming together for a football team, and the increase of a higher education.

In the beginning of the 20th century Texas discovered a major economic game changer. In January of 1901 in Spindletop, Texas oil was discovered in the form of a 100-foot geyser. Little did Texans know that their lives and economic situation would be changed forever. Right after the discovery most of the early profits made from oil went to easterners. When the 1920’s came around oil became a major economic engine. Causing major social changes in job opportunities, education, marriage, and sports.

Another reason against drilling much research has shown that all the oil that will be produced will only last for about six months. The fact that the British Petroleum has greater potential to produce more oil and natural gasses (Markey 2004) than ANWR so why bother with it , supporting the case that drilling is pointless. Then there is the percentage that after oil production of ANWR, the foreign oil dependency will only drop from 56% to 50% (Markey 2004).Then the oil produced would reach the market ten years later after it was produced, leaving the gas price decrease to one percent(Lamar and Markey 12). ANWR does not confirm any sign of them, when President Bush ordered exploration for natural gasses (Klyza and Ford-Martin 1).Again proving drilling pointless.

Fraking is a process that injects large amounts of water, sand, and chemicals into the rock so it can break up rock formations and releases the natural gas. During the fraking process 2 to 7 million gallons of fresh water with sand and gallons of industrial chemicals so that the wate can penetrare more easily. After the natural gas is released it goes up the well and to the storage tanks, then it is sent to market.
