Black gold or otherwise known as petroleum, was a great impact and change to certain places and created a new source of fuel for rapid trading and industrialization. It changed the face of Texas after the Texas oil boom had occurred in 1901. Saudi Arabia is probably one of the first things that you think of when you think of oil and their discovery of oil would change Middle eastern trading forever. Another important part of the oil history is Edwin Drake and the first oil well in America. Oil was in extreme abundance that it came down to 3 cents a barrel. Petroleum has grown around the world and impacted us in a big way with traveling easily and trading with others.
Edwin Drake was born on March 29, 1819 in Greenville, New York. He lived a pretty normal life and went to college and became a train conductor. People in Pennsylvania had been using seeps of oil as medicines. He then went to Pennsylvania and searching to dig for oil. He ended up being the first person to strike oil in America in Pennsylvania. His trick for digging down in the ground was using an iron pipe. In Beaumont, Texas they had started to drill at around October 27, 1900 and before they started drilling again some of them lost hope because they had been drilling for a long time and didn't find anything. They had been drilling for over two months and drilled down above 1000 feet below the ground. When they had returned from their christmas break they started drilling and they heard a “a noise like a cannon” and natural gas was spraying out of the hole.
