My results for the Big 5 personality test seem consistent with my personality in some ways and inconsistent in others. According to the test, I am open to new experiences (64% Open-Minded); neither organized or disorganized (48% Conscientious); tend to shy away from social situations (23% Extraverted); find it easy to criticize others (9% Agreeable); am generally anxious (85% Neurotic). I can confirm that I am generally open to new experiences, shy away from social situations, and fall somewhere between organized and disorganized on average, but I also feel as though these areas are highly situational for me. I personally found my husband’s to be more accurate than my self-assessment. His results also appear to be relatively positive compared to my own. In many ways my husband and I were similar in our personality, but in some ways we were complete opposites. For example, we rated exactly the same on conscientiousness and extraversion (we are neither organized or disorganized and we both shy away from social situations) and closely rated in Open-Mindedness (though he typically does not seek out new experiences and I am relatively open to them). However, we are less alike in our agreeableness and neuroticism, which I find accurate because my husband is generally relaxed, good-natured, and supportive even in high-anxiety situations. Maybe this is why we work so well together or maybe this is simply how I interpret our relationship. If someone were to look at my personality on such a superficial scale, they may get the wrong impression of me as a person (god forbid I try to get a respectable job with these results). I don’t know that this assessment proves capable in capturing true personality in just 60 questions/five traits. This leads me to believe that five is just an arbitrary number. What about these traits really make them individually unique and necessary over other potential traits? Although I know that these traits were chosen for a reason, I’m unsure of how much weight we should really put into O-C-E-A-N. I would like more evidence to support this method of testing and the traits
