They also prophesied that Banquo’s children will become Scottish kings, but he himself will never be king. You would think that most people would not believe the prophecies that were made and that is true. Macbeth and Banquo thought about the prophecies and treated them skeptically. They did not know whether to believe these prophecies or not, until Macbeth is told by King Duncan, the good king of Scotland, that he has been named thane of Cawdor. Now that one prophecy was true, Macbeth was not sure what to expect

The supernatural powers and beings, throughout Macbeth, bring a secondary element to the play that conducts the flow of events with a unique perspective. Correspondingly, the witches allow for a mythical voice to determine many of the critical actions from the paramount characters. During third scene the witches state, “All hail, Macbeth! hail to thee, thane of/Cawdor!/ All hail, Macbeth! that shalt be king hereafter.”(1.3.51-53) With this in mind, the witches make mysterious speculations about the futures of Banquo as well as Macbeth. In addition, the prophesies that the witches foretell throughout the play develop into the backbone of the performance and are the justification for many of the fatalities. Macbeth is a play rife with tragedy. Written by William Shakespeare most probably in the year 1606, the play was very loosely based on somewhat true events. The play focuses on Macbeth’s rise to power, and then his subsequent demise shortly thereafter. Macbeth's ambitions were too big, and the choices that he made were the wrong ones. If he had never chosen to kill the King, then he would not have been killed in return. And while prophecies were made that predicted what would happen, Macbeth was the one that set them into motion, and he was the only one responsible for his own death.
These prophecies severely change the lives of both soldiers. The three witches surprise Macbeth and Banquo but tell Macbeth the prophecy of him being given the position of Thane of Cawdor. Secondly speaking, ¡§All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!¡¨ (Act 1, scene iii p.12) They then tell Banquo that his sons will be kings but he will never rule a King. This news frightens Macbeth and both try to put it in the back of their minds, thinking of it as a prank. This is until Ross, one of the kings men, greets Macbeth and Banquo and gives great news to Macbeth in these words:

They prophesized that Macbeth will be promoted to Thane of Cawdor, and then become King of Scotland. In addition to that, Banquo was told that his sons shall be kings, but never himself. Macbeth was skeptical about the prophesies, but until some of King Duncan’s men came to inform Macbeth that that he was to be named Thane of Cawdor due to the betrayal of the previous and condemned to death.
