Time Period - The Berlin Airlift was effective at the end of World War II, 1948 to 1949. This topic was covered in lecture ten.
Importance - The Berlin Airlift was thought to be a crucial first battle of the Cold War. Americans sent planes over to Berlin, full of needed supplies. These planes landed every minute and were providing the citizens of Berlin with more than they had before the wall went up. This was important because the United States wanted to help Berlin because they were up against Soviet Union. They provided so much to Berlin that Stalin and the Soviet Union called for the blockade to be removed quietly. Stalin did not want others to hear that he had let up on Berlin but he was tired of fighting and knowing that Berlin was strong.

The main reasons behind world war 2 World were land,fascism,and natural resources. World war 2 started off between Germany,Britain,France,Italy,and the Soviet Union later joined by America and Japan. World war 2 started September 2,1939 to September 2,1945 and was the most deadliest war in history with more than 30 countries resulting in more than 50 million military and civilian deaths. One main reason was land. After world war 1 Germany lost some of their land for war costs and it was used to make new countries. After World War II, Germany and Berlin were controlled by four major powers, US, Britain, France and Russia. Many people fled from the east side, which Russia controlled, because they did not like being under the rule of the Soviet Union and communism. Over 2 million people fled over the course of the years 1949-1959. Russia did not like how people were leaving their side of Berlin, so they built a wall. This wall started out as a barbed wire fence that later was made into a 15 feet high and 4 feet wide wall made of concrete blocks.
The allies decided to supply their sectors of the city from the air. This effort, known as the “Berlin Airlift,” lasted for more than a year and carried more than 2.3 million tons of cargo into West Berlin.
Prior to World War 2, America was in a Great Depression that cause politicians to focus on domestic issues. At the start of another world war the United States declare neutrality, but it shows sympathy to democracies. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor America stop being isolationist to combat external threats. The United States didn’t address the domestic issues that plague the country for years. However, Proxity wars, Truman’s policies, and rising tensions shaped the world and US. Therefore, the role of the US would change from managing the Americas to supporting democracies and governments around the world to stop the spread of communism.
Tyler Ebrecht 03/11/24 Period 3 The United States during the Cold War had goals and values that were not always met. During the Berlin Airlift, the US helped innocent civilians get their basic needs met. This also made them sway towards capitalism and democracy instead of communism. On the other hand, in Iran, the US went against their values of democracy by taking an elected leader out of power to put a king in power.
World War II was one of the most significant wars in history. It is also the deadliest with a death toll of, approximately, 56.4 million; almost half of which were Soviet fatalities. Furthermore, the amount of people who met their demise during the time of this war is absolutely devastating. World War II could have been avoided if there was better cooperation and communication across the globe.

The Cold war began after World War two and ended in the early 1990s. The cold war was a series of events that occurred because the United States and Soviet Union fighting for power. Both superpowers fought for who would have the biggest influence on the nations. The United States was democratic while the Soviet Union was communist thus they tried to contain the spread of each other’s beliefs while dragging other countries into the cold war including Europe, Latin America and Asia. The cold war had a big impact on both Asia and Europe.
In 1963, John F Kennedy visited the city, to give a speech that would be recorded as one the most symbolic and moving speech for years to come. This speech was to show and tell the USSR the determination of the West Berliners to remain how they are, which was to stay non-communist.
In 1961, in the midst of the Cold War the Soviet Union put up the Berlin Wall. The wall caused never ending conflict for those around it. Then President Ronald Reagan started his fight against communism and the Berlin Wall. He did his best to find a compromise and end the conflict altogether. Ronald Reagan forever changed history.

After the deaths of 37,508,686 soldiers by the end of World War I, Europe was a mess. Countries had been dissolved and rearranged, governments had fallen and been replaced, and economies were thriving then crashing, all as a result from World War I. One of the main goals at the end of World War I was to prevent another tragedy like World War I from happening again. Clearly that did not happen, as World War II still happened, causing over 50 million deaths. The repercussions of World War I caused World War II due to radical ideology, bad economic conditions, and nationalism to the point of extremity.
The Berlin Wall had a major impact on humanity’s views on how society should be ruled. Berlin is the capital of Germany. After the ending of WWII, Berlin was split up into East Berlin, and West Berlin. East Berlin was communist, suffered from the repressions of the Communist Party. West Berlin had a better lifestyle, and had financial aid from the United States. From the years between nineteen forty-nine to nineteen sixty-one, approximately 2.5 million people from East Berlin escaped to West Berlin. This toll included skilled workers, professionals, and intellectuals. Because of the loss of these people, the economy in East Berlin was threatened. On August twelve-thirteen, nineteen sixty-one, the Berlin was built in order to stop the people of East Berlin from fleeing. The Berlin wall was a major point during the Cold War, and many opposed it. It gave another reason to detest communism.
