The dictionary definition of honor is high respect. I agree with that definition because when someone says they honor another, they are saying that they respect them. Benjamin Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston Massachusetts, he is best known as one of the founding fathers that drafted the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. At the age of twelve, he began working as an apprentice in a printing shop his brother, James, owned. When he turned 17, Benjamin left to Philadelphia, which he escaped his apprenticeship, which was against the law. A few months after he left for London, England, where he learned more about printing. Then at the age of 20, he moved back to Philadelphia to continue his career in printing. He became the publisher of the Philadelphia Gazette. Franklin carried through with reading, expanding his knowledge of science and technology. Because he didn’t patent what he invented, dating his inventions was not easy. Franklin wore spectacles for most of his life and because the lenses were good for reading, they blurred his vision while he looked up. He resolved this problem in 1739 at the age of 33. He invented a split-lens, bifocal …show more content…
Today we know the electrical fluid to be electrons. Franklin was the first to write that electric charge and be collected not created. The law of Conservation of Electric Charge means that you can neither create nor destroy electric charge. In 1752, his most famous works were brought out such as proof that lightning is electricity. In 1753, Franklin received the Copley Medal from Britain’s Royal Society, which was the equivalent of a modern Nobel Prize. Franklin also invented the lightning rod, which we still use today, it has saved countless lives. He and John Hadley investigated the refrigeration principle. Because of this, we now know the reason of the refrigeration
Out of all of the founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin in my opinion is the one who had the greatest impact on our nation and still has a great influence on our nation today. Mostly people are familiar with Benjamin Franklin from his head being on the front of the 100 dollar bill, but there’s more to him than just his face being on the 100 dollar bill. He made a huge impact on us and not everyone realizes it, but that’s how he made it on the 100 dollar bill. Not only was Benjamin Franklin apart of founding our nation, he was also scientist, diplomat, businessman, and philosopher. Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17th, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts to soap maker Josiah Franklin and his second wife Abigail Folger. Benjamin Franklin was apart of a big family and he was the 10th child out of 16 siblings. His siblings names were Jane Mocum, James Franklin, Anne Harris, Joseph Franklin I, Samuel Franklin, Sarah Davenport, Mary Holmes, Hannah Cole, Josiah Franklin Jr, Ebenzer Franklin, Peter Franklin, Thomas Franklin, John Franklin, Lydia Scott, Elizabeth Douse, and Joseph Franklin II. When Benjamin Franklin was younger his father wanted him to become a preacher, so he sent him away to a grammar school when he was only eight years old. Less than a year later, the family went through some financial struggles so he had to be transferred to Mr. George Brownell’s school for writing and math. He only stayed at that school until he was about 10 years old. He was doing well in
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. He was the tenth son of soap maker, Josiah Franklin. Though Ben only had one year of schooling he was educated and loved to read and write. He worked as an apprentice to his brother, James, who was a printer, when he was fifteen years old. At the age of seventeen, Ben ran away and started a new life in Philadelphia as a result of arguments with James. Franklin found work as an apprentice printer and did so well the provincial governor of
Ben Franklin was a very curious and inventive thinker. He kept thinking about different ways to experiment with electricity so he came up with an experiment with only a few materials (wire, mobile kite, handkerchief, and two sticks).(”Benjamin Franklin and Electricity”) Franklin

He was considered one of the founding fathers of the United States. The main reason we should celebrate Franklin is because was a scientist who developed several inventions, one of which was Franklin's stove. This was the first iron stove used inside the houses and was the model for new inventions such as the oven.
History was made in Boston, Massachusetts on January 17, 1706, as one of our nation's most influential enlightenment thinkers was born. Benjamin Franklin was the tenth son of his father Josiah Franklin, who was a soap maker. Josiah’s second wife, Abiah Folger, was Benjamin’s mother. When Benjamin was only 12, he would sell the products that he composed and set type through gruelling work with his brother James. At 15, his brother started the first newspaper in Boston, which was called The New England Courant. Benjamin wanted to write for the paper too, so he would sneak papers into the print shop, which soon became a smash hit. When he revealed he was the one writing the papers, his brother rebuked him out of jealousy. Even though running
Benjamin’s experiment with his kite and key helped him to understand lightning. “Mid-eighteenth century scientists and inventors considered electricity to be Franklin’s most remarkable area of investigation and discovery” (Mary Bellis). Franklin’s experiments helped him to create the lightning rod. The lightning rod was a rod that was attached to the highest point of a house or building. The rod would have a wire attached to it that would run all the way to the ground. Lightning would strike the rod and travel along the wire into the ground. The wire connected to the ground absorbed the lightning, preventing the lightning from hitting the house or building. The lightning rod would prevent fires and electrocution. One of Benjamin Franklin’s less known
He soon retired in 1749 from business and concentrated on science, inventions, and experiments. This wasn't new to Franklin he had been doing a little bit of science for a few years. In 1743 he invented a heat-efficient stove, now called the Franklin stove, helped warm houses efficiently. He also made swim fins, a glass armonia(a music interment), and bifocals. In 1750s he focused on the study of electricity. His studies about electricity and lightning brought him international fame. He invented a lightning rod to protect against
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 17, 1706. Benjamin Franklin was the son of Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger. Ben was the youngest son his of family of 17 children. Although it is not explicitly stated, Josiah Franklin had married another woman before Abiah who bore 7 children . Benjamin Franklin’s family was a devout christian family that seeked to further Ben’s studies, but in the christian faith. Ben was sent to study under the hand of the Cotton Mather, a puritan that seeked nothing, but “To not leave a place without leaving doing something good”. Benjamin Franklin was removed from the school due to its price. He worked with his father for a short while in candle and soap making but pleaded for another job. He was later put as an apprentice printer and writer under his older brother James Franklin until the age
Benjamin Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston, MA. He died April 17,1790 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a young man, he had a common law marriage with Deborah Reed. They had three children together: William, Sarah, and Francis. He was a very well rounded, and accomplished person. He was many things most notably an inventor, however in his time he wrote two books, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, and Poor Richards Almanac.
Who was Benjamin Franklin? Probably not quite who we think he was. Yes, he was one of the "Founding Fathers," the only one who put his name to all three of the founding documents of the United States: the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain, and the Constitution under which we still live. He may have become famous for his many sayings in praise of being industrious and frugal in one’s calling, but he left his own calling as a printer and retired from business at the age of forty-two to become what he spoke crudely of for years, a gentleman. Once retired, he devoted the rest of his life to public service, but the most important services he performed at the public’s demand were not quite what he thought the
The man who would come to be known as one of the smartest men to ever live and an extremely influential part of the formation of America was born on the seventeenth of January 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. His name was Benjamin Franklin. He was born into a family of candle and soap makers who lived a middle class life. His father pushed him to become a preacher from an early age to make a difference, but Franklin would eventually run away to Philadelphia to seek a new life of his own. He became an apprentice at a printing press there and saved up his money to start his own press and print his books that he wanted to write as reading was his biggest past time.

Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, which back then was known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. When he was born, he was the tenth son of a soap maker. His father's name was Josiah Franklin. His mother's name was Abiah Folger, she was the second wife to Josiah. Benjamin's father wanted him to join the clergy. But his father could only afford enough for him to go to school for one year. While Benjamin was young he enjoyed reading. His
In 1752 Franklin devised another experiment to test if lighting has an electrical charge. He flied a kite carrying a pointed wire in a thunderstorm and attempted to test his theory that atmospheric lightning is an electrical phenomenon similar to the spark produced by an electrical frictional machine (Bruno 406). Almost every person knows Benjamin Franklin. At the same time, people know him differently. Some people know Benjamin Franklin as a founding father or as a scientist or even as an economist. Whether we recognize or not, his studies and achievements had a great impact, and his achievements are still influencing our lives. While he has numerous achievements in various fields, this paper will focus on his achievements as a scientist and an inventor. As the scientist, he has established various scientific terms, especially terms that are used in electric physics. Ordinary people, even not professionals, use terms that Benjamin Franklin has established. In addition to that, as the inventor, even though his inventions are now using with development, his inventions are essential for developing the advanced instruments. Even though we do not recognize it, his inventions and terms are closely related to our routine. For instance, we use the various electrical terms that he had established, including commonly used terms “batteries”, “plus” and “minus”. In additions to that, we can observe the lightning rod on the buildings, which is also invented by Benjamin Franklin. While numerous people are using his inventions and terms that he had established, relatively few people know that those ideas and terms were established by Benjamin Franklin. Although there are various fields and things were developed by Benjamin Franklin, this paper will mainly focus on his contribution to physics, especially in electrical physics.
