In college, every professor and staff are always willing to help the students at their best so the students can succeed, as they are the future of their country’s development. But as Thomas A. Edison said, “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” Students can’t always depend on their professor, but need to devote more time to autodidact, so they are able to find what works for them, helps them understand the concept from their point of view. That is why resources and services are provided in the campus for supporting students on their way to success. Edmonds Community College doesn’t differ from other colleges. They not only give opportunities, but also resources and services to help students accomplish their …show more content…

Because of the university’s commitment to diversity, I see differences among people in the same space as an advantage and a requirement, rather than a disadvantage.

Students nowadays face many challenges when it comes to obtaining a college education. We evaluate an institution’s quality based on what we need the most. The qualities sought out may vary by each person’s personal point of view. However, as a student, I’ve found that most students seek for an institute that benefits them the most. Attending a community college has been an enormous advantage towards my education. I have been attending San Bernardino Valley College for the last two semesters. I have come to respect their philosophies and values. The institution has now been in business for 87 years. They venture to encourage both students and faculty towards high standards of achievement and progress into exceptional members of the society. They now offer a variety of degrees, transfer programs and certificates for a wide range of students. San Bernardino Valley College has an accomplished staff, student support services and technological tools that pave the road towards the conquest of a quality education.
INTRO: Prompt: What should “diversity on campus” mean and why? Hook: Does diversity help liberate narrow-mindedness? What exactly is diversity? To say that diversity is approached on school campuses is an understatement to the level of understanding in this increasingly globalized world. By its definition, “diversity” requires inclusion. Are school’s really working toward the inclusion of everyone? This means including color, national origin, socio-economic status, and sexual orientation. Looking at court cases and polls shown in the short articles, “Introduction from Place, Not Race: A New Vision of Opportunity in America” and “The Trouble with Diversity: How We Learned to Love Identity and Ignore Inequality,” their approach to strengthening
Even if the colleges are achieving their goals to get a diverse student body to the campuses, they fail to get those groups to interact. In the article “The Lie About College Diversity,” Bruni’s interpretation on diversity explains that common college diversity programs are categorizing students together with similar backgrounds. Only a number of programs accept students to interact with fellow diversity students with different cultures, backgrounds or ethnic groups. These programs do not motivate students to reach out and share their thoughts with other groups because they could get rejected. By learning other points of view and having diversity in the learning environment, it also helps individuals communicate better. It also opens minds to ideas and concepts they might not have considered and provide them with
Community college is a great institution for students to start their educational journey. Especially when they do not have the funds or lack some of the prerequisite that a university would require. Community college was created to serve the community, traditional and non-traditional students with the best higher education and lifetime learning opportunities. The faculty and staff members at a community college is there to provide leadership in education while going above and beyond to recognize the needs of the students and the community by providing excellent educational programs and support services that are available to all who have the opportunity to take advantage of them. “Student services now include recruitment and retention, counseling, student activities, student health, financial aid, academic support, career centers, transfer centers, and supplemental services such as transportation, child care, and services tailored for specific populations of students” (Cohen, Brawer, & Krisker, 2014, pg. 209). My philosophy in fulfilling the role and mission of the community college, is to establish the mission, vision, goals and values to guide all students on their journey to strive to become successful both in school and in today’s economy.
Here at The University of Texas at Austin, we embrace and encourage diversity in many forms, striving to create an inclusive community that fosters an open and supportive learning, teaching and working environment. For many young adults, college is a time of great discovery as it presents them with an incredibly diverse assortment of people with whom they may mingle with. However, the mentally ill are often excluded from these interactions. Due to numerous misconceptions about their condition and the ensuing stigma that this creates, college students with a psychiatric disorder are left to endure unnecessary shunning from their peers. Fortunately, some universities have taken it amongst themselves to prevent this injustice from occurring, a prime example of which is the New Diversity Initiative program.
Being a Bunker Hill Community College student is not that easy unless you are associated with all the useful and valuable sources provided all over the school. As I seamlessly move from my high school experiences into a two-year college at Bunker Hill, I was so anxious to explore new things in the new college world. After I come to this college, I found that this college has many friendly and helpful resources that help me engaging myself in the new world. For example, I found that the admissions office staff members are very helpful in providing student information. Besides that, the school mentors are also helpful for bringing new students on a tour around Bunker Hill Community College. Furthermore, Life map Centre staff members are also very friendly in helping students organize their study plan and to register for class. The most interesting part is I found a reliable resource called A.C.E Mentor that tremendously could help the students to succeed in their classes.
Keeping in line with Marietta College’s statement on Diversity and Inclusion, it is important to map out a plan to make sure we are living up to the mission of the college. In order to fulfill this mission, it is necessary to have students from diverse backgrounds represented on campus. However, having students on campus is only one aspect of D&I work. Understanding the make-up of the college and the surrounding city, it is necessary to ensure these students have the support to be retained through graduation. In this effort, I propose the creation of a three part program that will assist in this effort. This plan will involve
Growing up in a multiracial, multicultural household I have been fortunate enough to experience diversity at a young age. NC State’s diverse campus would expose me to different cultures, religions, and ethnic groups, all focused on enhancing the legacy of NC State. Exposure to these different lifestyles would increase my knowledge about different issues minorities from around the world have been faced with. The diversity would allow me to help implement new ways of increasing diversity throughout society, and college campuses, allowing NC State to be a model for the world. Campus diversity is important in making sure all students are comfortable in their learning environment. Being able to share my life experiences and background would allow
College is indirectly served to have fun, make new friends, and learn about ourselves. As an attendant at Miami-Dade College I would never forget the real reason for enrolling in this institution. Any other individual who is a current student should know that education is the knowledge of putting potential to maximum use. Throughout the semester I have been given various assignments and objectives to comprehend making it challenging. At Miami-Dade College, the professors offer a variety of ways that can ensure academic success. My academic success this semester came with being able to be self-motivated, communicate with professors, and use available resources throughout the campus.

These skills and lessons are greatly valued and can be employed at an
Succeeding in college is generally a difficult task for students who do not have a plan on what they want to do and start off in the wrong places. Where a student starts off in college and who helps the students in their journey have huge impacts on a student's likeliness to succeed or fail. At Skagit Valley College placement, advising, and academic planning have a huge impact in a student's success because it helps students start in the right classes, gives them many resources, and helps them make a plan to graduate on time.
I look forward to participating in activities and community service events that will enhance my learning and perspective about the world. As a group of minority women, we can come together and share unique experiences and perspectives to bring about understanding and make positive changes in the Loyola Community. LUCES will enable me to grow spiritually, academically, and socially around women I can identify with. Though, while being with multicultural women that share one great similarity, we all come from different backgrounds and we are unique. Our differences could pertain to socioeconomic status, ethnicity, religion, high school GPA, and so much more. Being in this diverse setting with the knowledge of one common denominator will enable us to share these differences and be comfortable doing
