Being a Bunker Hill Community College student is not that easy unless you are associated with all the useful and valuable sources provided all over the school. As I seamlessly move from my high school experiences into a two-year college at Bunker Hill, I was so anxious to explore new things in the new college world. After I come to this college, I found that this college has many friendly and helpful resources that help me engaging myself in the new world. For example, I found that the admissions office staff members are very helpful in providing student information. Besides that, the school mentors are also helpful for bringing new students on a tour around Bunker Hill Community College. Furthermore, Life map Centre staff members are also very friendly in helping students organize their study plan and to register for class. The most interesting part is I found a reliable resource called A.C.E Mentor that tremendously could help the students to succeed in their classes. …show more content…
When I first come here, it is tough for me to make friends because all of the students here come from different backgrounds. I managed to overcome that problem by engaging with the clubs’ activities and participating in volunteering programs. I improved my self-confidence by make a lot of friends from day to day. This gives me a good impression that being in a wonderful college like Bunker Hill Community College really helps students to build themselves by brushing up their potentials. By connecting with people every day and knowing others, we can brush up our communication skills as well as widen our knowledge. Based from these experiences, I promised to myself to help the new students adapting themselves in the new world attracting them to get involved with clubs, activities and volunteering

The battle of Bunker’s Hill is considered to be one of the most influential fights during the Revolutionary War. It was considered the first large-scale fight of the Revolutionary War, aside from the battle of Lexington and Concord. On June 15, 1775, American colonists caught wind of British plans to control the Charlestown peninsula between the Mystic and Charles rivers. Breed’s and Bunker’s hill loomed over both Boston and it’s harbor on that peninsula. Therefore the hills were crucial vantage points. General Prescott, planning to beat the British to the peninsula, assembled 1,200 of his mostly disobedient, often intoxicated, and usually undisciplined foot soldiers to dig into and protect Bunker Hill under the cover of night on June 16. Taking place in 1775, at the start of the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Bunker Hill was a needed victory early in the war to get the soldiers to believe in themselves. Many soldiers in the beginning of the war did not believe that the lowly colonists could defeat and declare independence from a superpower; Britain. Although outnumbered and with little confidence, the continental army stood their ground at the Battle of Bunker Hill and proved that they could win the war.
Making friends on U.S. campuses could be challenging for those who are an international students. It’s not easy to make friends with American students because they tend to be independent and keep distance from others. In Rebekah Nathan’s book “My Freshman Year”, Nathan claims that social life and developing friendships on U.S. campuses is difficult for international students because American students would make them feel uncomfortable and invisible at times. Nathan’s argues that American students don’t put any effort in talking to students from different race, ethnic, and background. International students are usually on their own or be with their friends since Americans wouldn’t make friends with them. In nathan’s book, she discusses about the
It’s vital as a student to be successful in college, therefore starting new in a whole different social environment can take time to adjust. Students need to be accessible and be committed to their studies so that they can improve in their courses. For instance, seeking out the opportunity to meet others who want to be successful in school is a beneficial way to be more connected to going to college. Having a growth mindset can also open other ways to gain knowledge and advice from other students. Not only getting help from others is helpful to your success but putting the advice into the hard work that comes along. By reading ‘Opening Skinner’s Box’ by Lauren Slater, it reasons how many psychological
Waking up in the morning, going to sleep at night, and doing what one loves in between, is what success means. That, to me, encompasses being able to help people and possibly save lives as a career. There is a nobility in succeeding in certain areas one cares deeply about. Having the ability and capability to protect and serve is a strong desire within me. Developing my education, in order to further my success something that I perceive as a crucial aspect of being able to do what I love. Attending Endicott is the first step in this journey of mine.
At my graduate assistantship at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), the graduate students from Monmouth were introduced to a few of the key offices that work with Residential Education and Housing. Through this introduction, I was able to meet Kelly Hennessy, who is the current Associate Dean of Students in the Department of Health and Wellness at The College of New Jersey. As a future Student Affairs professional, one of my end goals would ultimately become a Dean of Students, so it was exciting to interview Hennessy and see how she got to where she is today. Originally when Hennessy first started her college years, she thought that she wanted to be a teacher. After working with the professionals in her Residence Life Office and Leadership Office at the University of Buffalo, where she received both her bachelors and master’s degrees, she realized that her passion was no longer teaching, but rather to become the professionals she was surrounded and inspired by every day. Hennessy has worked in Residence Life for majority of her career up to about two years ago when the Department of Health and Wellness first started on TCNJ’s campus.
As I spent the summer of 2015 at the Governor’s School of North Carolina, located at Meredith College, I learned how to open up to different people in a new place with new possibilities. Governor’s School had a welcoming environment where both staff and students shared respect for each other. I was surrounded by people that I had never met before, but found it simple to make friendships that were strong and would last longer than the experience we shared at Governor’s School. The friendships that were made helped to transform me into an adult by sharing life experiences such as living on our own, supporting each other both personally and professionally, and sharing diverse backgrounds. Of my close friend group each of us had different areas
As a commuter student at NHTI, I would tend to see almost exclusively the other students in the business program. This made the school seem even smaller than it is. I cannot wait to immerse myself in a new, larger community. Being part of a larger college environment will not only provide ways to make friends, but also provide ways to establish personal connections that can be utilized in my future career. Social clubs are a great way to meet people who have similar interests and from a career standpoint build these personal connections, which may prove to be significant in my future endeavors. At my next school, I hope to meet people who are like-minded and as motivated as
My entire life has revolved around Notre Dame. While my mother was pregnant with me, she rode her bike along the lakes at Notre Dame. When I was four, I was a Notre Dame cheerleader for Halloween. When I got my first camera, my first pictures were of me holding a Notre Dame football and standing in front of the golden dome with my American girl doll. Every year, I visited the campus since it was a rest stop on the way from Chicago to Buffalo and every year my desire to become one of the fighting Irish grew. When the time arrived to start the college search process, I saved Notre Dame for my last college visit. As the tour date approached, I grew anxious because it had been my ideal school for so long and I feared that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. Thankfully, Notre Dame exceeded my already high expectations. Everyone was welcoming, the campus was magical, and it felt like the home that I had remembered visiting
At the same time, I have to worry about applying to college and I wrote plenty of essay for the college application. Finally, I am done with applying to colleges and almost done with the first semester of senior year. Therefore, I am relieved because I have overcome all the challenges I encounter last year. I desire to make my second semester of senior year memorable by going to all the school trip and taking less stress, so this memorable year can remind of my high school life. My second New Year resolutions are to become more social with people. I am not an antisocial person, I very socialize with my family members and friends but I feel like I have to socialize more with other people who I don’t know because fall semester I am going to college and my friends are not going to the same college where I am going. Therefore, I need to need to find new friends to
