Why I Want To Pursue A College Degree

College is often a word that can bring positive or negative thoughts depending on one’s experiences. The process of being accepted, maintaining high standards once accepted, and then paying off debts is stressful. Once adapted to college, the most important task is determining what you want to do with your life. Dan Rather once said, “A college degree is the key to realizing the American dream, well worth the financial sacrifice because it is supposed to open the door to a world of opportunity (“Quotes about College Students”).” The biggest question a student must ask themselves is “What door do I want to open up for the rest of my life?” For instance, two characteristics that describe me are athletic and business minded. Depending on the client, an agent’s tasks for that particular person might vary (“Athletic Business Manager”). For example, a high school football player who is about to be drafted into the NFL will vary drastically compared to a soccer player who is going to an average University to continue his career. The football player will need an agent who is experienced with making a budget, negotiating contracts amongst teams, and most importantly marketing the individual to all organizations. The soccer player is furthering his career, but doesn’t need to worry about exposure to top notch organizations yet. According to the Personality Assessment, athlete business managers make an average of $87,430 (“Athletes Business Manager”). The Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected employment rates of business managers to increase by 10% between 2012 and 2022 (“Athletic Business Manager”).
Now, how can I ensure that I’m in the 10% of the population becoming involved in this business? I need to not only meet the standard requirements, but excel in them. The basic education requirements are a bachelor’s degree in business administration with courses in investment, accounting, and securities (“Athletes Business Manager”).
