“Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ” is centered on a man named Judah Ben Hur. Judah was a prince and merchant in Jerusalem and was accused of a crime that he didn’t commit. Hur had to go through trials and tribulations in order to survive and fight for the ones he loved. This film was intense, historically dramatic, and religious. The director of this film is William Wyler. Wyler centered the movie around a Jewish man, but also on a Christians prospective. Dennis Grunes stated in his article that “William Wyler made some excellent films (These Three, Jezebel, The Letter, The Best Years of Our Lives), but, following the estimable achievement of Friendly Persuasion (1956), which took the top prize at Cannes largely on the strength of blacklisted Michael Wilson’s …show more content…
The story line took the audience with them to this journey with Judah Ben Hur. The production really delivers its message to the audience threw the life of Hur. This also brings great value to the movie as well. Bosely Crowther even wrote that “Much more could be said in praise of the technical quality of this film, which vastly surpasses the silent version of the same story released back in 1926. Space does not permit it. Otherwise this review would run too long, which is the one thing this picture does distressingly. Three hours and thirty-two minutes of it, not counting intermission, is simply too much of a good thing. The stimulated soul may be willing but the tormented flesh is weak.” Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ”, is by far one of the best movies I have ever watched. I 100% recommend this movie to everyone. Especially the 1959 version.
“The Last Samurai”
The second movie I selected was “The Last Samurai”. This movie is about a man named Nathan Algren. He was first American military officer, then worked for Japan to train the new army. In battle against the rebels, he gets captured by them, and is held captive. While he is forced to stay, he gains a
While the novel “their eyes were watching god” and the film by the same name were very much alike they were also very different. The movie while touching on major issues that are parallel to book also misses some other points. While the book touches heavily on nature and janies innerself as discovered through nature the movie lacks the symbolism that the book was heavy with, Tea Cake and Janie's relationships are changed and the janies trial is not included in the film either.
William Wyler directed a 1958 American epic historical drama film, Ben-Hur. This film is well known to be one of the greatest film scores reflecting in the classic traditions. The film portrays lives of two men (i.e., Jesus Christ and Judah Beh-Hur), in which the plot illustrates number of parallels and reversals. Rozsa utilizes modal harmonies and parallel chords to deploy the spirit of the Roman era. Throughout the film, he embraces traditional love themes
The movie I chose was Sling blade. I chose this movie partly because of the story line, and partly because of the langauge. It's a story about a guy named Karl Childers (the main character), a mentally challanged fellow who has been in a mental institution since he was a child of 12 years old for the murder of his mother and her lover. This movie starts at the mental institution where Karl has lived for the past 20 years.
The first movie that I have selected for this assignment is Gallipoli. The story begins in Australia and revolves around a few young men who join the army and then find their way in the World War I battle at the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. The second film selected by me is ‘Letters from Iwo Jima’. It is a story about men who were the part of the Japanese defence of island ‘Iwo Jima’ against the US attack in World War II. The stories are set decades apart at different times and in very different cultures and yet it can be argued that they have very inherently similar tales with strands glory, a bloody struggle and an end of many precious lives all intertwined to showcase the bitter reality of wars.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is an epic movie. Joseph Campbell created “The Hero’s Journey” model. This model helps to characterize a specific piece of literature as an epic. It is a pattern of narrative. It explains the typical adventure of the Hero. The Hero achieves great deeds on behalf of the group. It helps a person dissect a piece of literature, a movie in this case, and learn about all the different parts. If the piece of literature fits into every part, then it classifies as an epic. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade fulfills each part of this model. The 1989 movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, written by George Lucas and directed by Steven Spielberg, meets all the criteria outline by Campbell in his “Hero’s Journey”
I also have my PowToon from High School. I did a Book Report on one of my favourite comic book series Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I hope you like it. I added this in to the eportfolio because I wanted to show everyone how I got introduced to PowToons. I made a couple of changes because some of the stuff I added before were only available from the premium pass, which I don't have. I hope you don't
In Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ written by Lew Wallace, Chapter 6 describes the Joppa Market in ancient Jerusalem. The author takes time describing the market so the reader can feel like he is at the market buying food, animals, or jewelry. The women at the market, surrounded by their half-naked children running around, were selling earthen jars and some learthen bottles. The women wore long dresses with their head covered. The author then went on describing the man who works on the jewelry as a sharp man cloaked in scarlet and blue top heaving under prodigious white turbans, and fully conscious of the power there is in the lustre of a ribbon and the incisive gleam of gold." The noise of the market was loud because men were yelling
The movie, Ben-Hur is a classical world film that represents the ancient Roman civilization. The film was directed by William Wyler as an epic historical drama movie in 1959. The main cast features Charlton Heston who plays the role of Judah Ben-Hur, Stephen Boyd as Messala, Jack Hawkins as Quintus Arrius, Haya Harareet as Esther and Hugh Griffith as Sheik Ilderim (Wallace 5).
Ben Her is a film what is about forgiveness and hate. I will be reviewing the length of the movie and how that effects the movie and second Ill review how Jesus was shown in the movies. A brief overview of the movie is as follows. Messala and Judah (Ben Her) are brothers. But when messala leaves to fight for Rome things change between them. The reason behind this is because Rome and Jerusalem don't get along. After Messala returns, there is an accident and Judah takes blame. With this, he goes on a long, awful adventure. But he eventually finds the Sheik and things start to turn up. Lastly He then enters a chariot race that he will either win and stay alive, or die trying.
The turn of the 20th century was an important time for the history of cinema. With the implementation of appealing movie stars and extravagant sets, Hollywood had found a new formula for success in the form of blockbuster films. The Birth of a Nation, directed by D.W Griffith, being one of the first feature-length films of its time, was heralded for both its technical advancements and aesthetic appeal. Despite being criticized for its racist legacy, The Birth of a Nation, set what would become the new standard for Hollywood blockbuster films in film production techniques.
Hard work is the key to success, but the worst thing you can do is allow yourself to be comfortable. Every successful person in the world has had to work for what they got. They did not get to where they are with only 50% effort. Good Will Hunting shows how allowing yourself to become stagnant can affect those around you. The kite runner exhibits the power of working hard for what you want.
This movie talks about crusades. The crusades were expeditions (eight in total) that took place at the height of the famous period for European chivalry between 1095 and 1270. During this period of time the succession of European armies set out to recover the Holy Land from occupying Muslims. These lands had fallen under the rule of Muslims starting with Prophet Muhammad in the 630s. The pope played an important role competition for influence at the time and for several hundred years afterward. An important incentive was the promise of plenary indulgence-forgiveness of minor sins-which would help lead the way to paradise after death. The idea of separating religion from government was basically not an option, either in Europe or in Muslim lands.
First of the movie that this one relates to the most in my opinion is that of Pearl Harbor because of the true story factor that is in shown in both movies. The true stories in a way relate because they are both talking about events that happened during World War II. They were on different parts of course one being when Hawaii was attacked by the Japanese and the other being the Olympic games that took place in Berlin Germany.
The subtitle in Ben Hur: A Tale of Christ is a fitting one. It is considered one of the classics of modern Christian literature and, in fact, it was the first book to be blessed by a sitting pope (Keyser 36). However, neither the book nor the film portrays an accurate view of religion at the time.
The movie in which I chose to do my movie analysis on was not one from the list provided. However, it is one of my all-time favorite movies The Band of Brothers a miniseries by HBO. I chose to do this one over the other because not only is it very entertaining and keeps you want to watch more, just to see what happens to everyone invaded but also because of the history be hide the story. The fact that they used real life experiences to help make the film just made it that much better. I watch The Band of Brothers at least a few times a year so I was happy to do this assignment.
