Being an effective writer requires being able to identify your strengths and weaknesses and what is effective versus what is ineffective with your writing. The first principle to be improved is being more specific. Sometimes as a writer responding to an email or assignment by writing too fast can cause the person to miss your initial point in the response and then there will be another email asking for clarity. This will allow them to comprehend the initial response and take action if needed or send a thank you in return (Cardon, P., 2013). This leads to my second principle to critique which is being more accurate with the delivery of the message. The more accurate you are in the message the more credible you become to the customer, colleagues,
I enrolled in this writing class about perspectives on friendship because I feel like their are many different opinions on friendship and it is a topic that I feel enough motivation to write about. There are also many philosophers and intellectuals who have written about the concept of friendship so I have many resources to strengthen my arguments in my essays. I’m a talkative and social person so I’ve had many different types of friendships I can reference. I’m a broadcast journalism major and I hope this class can allow me to analyze friendships or relationships between countries with another perspective.
Throughout the course of my writing career this semester at High Point University, I feel as if I have kept my reputation of being a good writer. In high school my papers were said to been adequate worked and excelled when it came to using good transitions and language. Given these factors, I came to college with the same attitude that I am a good writer, and will produce well written work whenever I am asked to submit an assignment as such. I feel as if I have not slacked off from this, and that I have only gotten better by utilizing feedback from my peers and professors that give constructive criticism. The constructive criticism from peers has helped due to it being from a more relatable person, it helps that it is from someone who is doing
My writing skills have improved over the past months. I can proudly admit that I am a better writer than I was five months ago. Five months ago I was a terrible writer, I’m not admitting that I am as good as an Arthur now, but I can state that I am more comfortable with my writing skills at this point. I worked hard to get to the point that I'm at with my writing. I can not deny the fact that there is still room for practice and improvement in my writing because I lacks the fundamentals of writing, but I am grateful that my writing skills have improved significantly.
Now that I have received my graded paper my analyses is that there are multiple areas that I need improvement. Such as my mechanics with comma, apostrophes, and Semi-Collins. Also I need to work on my word choice and write a more college level paper. The Other Struggle I have is with past and present tenses. Although I have noticed some strengths in my writing, such as a clear thesis statement and great conclusions. Therefore I will look into the different opportunities that I have available to become an efficient writer.
As an accounting major, my writing is expected to be professional. What my coach would expect from my writing is to be clear and concise. It should not have any grammatical or spelling mistakes. It should also allow my coach to identify the person I am, through my writing. It should also be as accurate as possible and the information should be to the point. Other than that, it should be readable and easy to understand. Last but not least, my writing should be polished.
Writing is a process that can always be perfected and it is always a good idea to continue education for learning benefits and to sharpen your skills. Writing has always easily come to me; it is not hard for me to get my ideas on paper, but I have issues when it comes to grammar and punctuation. Grammar and punctuation are two key factors that can make or break a writer’s work; to be a good writer you must have those two down. This past summer in English 1301 I picked up on some grammar and punctuation tips that will help me in my future endeavors; I learned: using contractions like “I’m and aren’t” are not professional but using “I am and are not” is better to use, I also learned what a comma splice was because I never knew what my mom meant when she would call me the “comma splice queen.”
Becoming a better writer is crucial for my future success because in order to be a best hospitality manager or health care manager you should know how to write great responses to your customers or higher authority. If you do not have good writing skills there is no way that your company would be happy to have an employe with poor writing skills because writing and speaking are two important parts of your work you can not survive with poor writing and speaking skills in such professions because those professions are completely based on how you react to a customers problem and how politely take care of it while using a strong professional language which helps you to support your argument in every manner you want to. I do have a lot of family
Writing, it has it’s good, and it’s bad. Regardless of who you are however, you have had an experience with it. College, High School, Middle School, etc. We all have written something at some point in our lives.
“Context is king,” is the phrase my professor repeated to the class as I studied hermeneutics (i.e., biblical interpretation). At first I was a little tired of hearing it every week, but it was not until I started interpreting the Bible for myself that I realized the importance of that statement. D.A. Carson says, “I dare never forget that students do not learn everything I try to teach them but primarily what I am excited about.” Students may hear many things from their English teachers, but I hope this phrase is repeated by teachers in every writing class, “Content is king.” This semester I have learned many tools on how to improve as a writer, and I believe all good writing consists of rewriting.
Being an effective writer in the workplace can have a major impact on your career. Many business owners will not even consider people for jobs unless they have good writing skills. It is one of the most important traits a person can have in the business world.
When reading an essay for the first time one does not read with the intention of correcting but for enjoying. Any person can write a paper but it takes a good writer to get their readers to enjoy it and really listen to what they have to say. The skills of a good writer is being able to use rhetoric in any form of writing to achieve one’s purpose. When reading one of my fellow peer’s papers, “Wrestling in the Olympics”, I was really informed on the subject. I also found John Doe’s commonplace and ethos in his paper with his experience and connection to wrestling. Even so, John Doe’s essay on “Wrestling in the Olympics” fails to compose an argument to persuade his audience that wrestling should not be taken out of the Olympics due to his
A successful writing experience you have written is my first term paper in my prior course Pathways to Academic Success. Coming back to school after fifteen years was actually scary to me and I felt unsafe around my ability academically.
Writing is one of the most effective tools we have for learning and expressing what we know. It stands to reason that it gives us an opportunity to communicate and connect with others. It is a useful and, moreover, powerful way of promoting self-reflection and personal development. However, difficulties with writing lead significant barriers in education and other life pursuits. In fact, I am very familiar with the challenges of writing as a student. But my biggest problem in writing is lack of focus. Without enough attention, I am not able to put my opinions on paper because concentration is the first and most important element in writing. There are plenty of reasons why I am losing my focus. Firstly, I may not be healthy and getting enough
It's good to be open to learn new habits to improve your writing skills. I agree that it is important to practice everyday for it to become your new habit. That is why they are called habits. It's a word that usually have a negative connotation tied to it but not all the time. I have a habit to look over the paper multiple times, too, to correct it. Usually I tend to overlook my mistakes, though. Nice to hear that you're are developing good writing
This essay will describe and analyse my prior experiences during the course, related with what I have learnt about myself as a writer and learner. The thoughts I had before the beginning of the course where different from what they are now, but the important issue is to explain how they evolve throughout the last three months. Throughout the four assignments done in the course, I identified fundamental requirements I need to do an effective writing and an effective learning. Firstly, I have identified the ideal environment I need for doing my essays. Secondly, I discovered that day and night affect tremendously the quality of my works and why it’s easier to me to learn in the mornings. Finally, I have identified the best way for me to
