What does it mean to be American?Well it all depends on who you ask, because everyone has their own opinions. Being an American mean has and had many definitions for many centuries. During WW1 being an American was helping server the war or help the war. In WW2 it was the exact same thing. Women in this age thought being American was having the same rights as men. But being American is something that can be broken up into three big categories. One of them having our right and freedoms to do whatever we please, two having a democratic republic, third of all having people of different nationalities coming together. This is why having freedoms makes us American because it allows to do and get what what we think is right.Talking about having the right to vote our country allows us to do so, because of our democratic republic. This type of government has three branches to keep us balanced and not have one overpower the others. Our government helps allow us to choose our leaders with like-minded opinions to give a voice for us. It helps us connect to people with the same ideologies to fight for the same reason. Having our government is to help the people it is something we should be proud of because unlike many countries ours is different. Our country is an example to others because our government has worked for many years. Being an American means having a government looking out for you even if it's something you do not want. For example when FDR came up with the New Deal many were upset because most people thoughtthe government was taking over and becoming more communist
