What does it mean to be an American? To be an American means many different things. In some cases, people think to be an American only means you get to have the right to vote, buy whatever you want, and do whatever you please. Which is true, but not exactly what it means to be an American.

To me, being an American means having the privilege to go to school and get my education, and having teachers who are willing to help you achieve your goals in life. In some places, children don't have the opportunity to go to school like us Americans do. For example, girls in China and Afghanistan. They don't have the privilege like we do to go to school and get their education. Another thing is having friends and family members who served to help make this country a free one. Unlike us, there isn't too many people outside of the United States that can actually say they live in a free country. We get to choose our religion even if it’s not accepted. A role-model is someone who is hard-working, dedicated, and sets good examples for the younger generation. For example, an entrepreneur is a good role-model because they have to work extra hard to run their businesses and make sure everything is running like it’s suppose to. Another function is achieving your goals life. Without goals, you don’t really have anything to strive for or make you a better person. So achieving your goals/making goals is a really big function being an american. We have the right to equality. In the Declaration of Independence it says ““We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” (line
