I grew up camping in the mountains, more specifically the mountains in North Carolina. I have also done some camping at various beaches. I can tell you that both types of camping are incredible. But there are some differences based on my personal experience that will help you determine which may be more suitable for you.
I will start off with beach camping. Let us start with the pros. The sand is more comfortable under the tent. The ground on the beach consists of sand obviously, and this is kind of like natures memory foam. Which is relatively body forming and drains very well. So, no damp nights and hard roots disturbing your sleep. It’s better to sleep on sand than rocky mountain soil for sure. You can hear the waves. You have a buffet of delicious yummies at every corner. From dandelions to fish the menu is there for you to enjoy. There are not many mosquitoes, but this can vary based on location and the amounts of stagnate water. At least compared to the beach and the onslaught of attacks from those no-see-ums., there are a lot less mosquitoes and such to worry about. Fresh water sources are all around. I always plan my mountain camping trips near some water source. Thanks to the invention of camping water filters, you don’t have to worry about carrying H20 with me or buying it.
You feel on top of the world looking down. With breathtaking aerial views that go further than the eye can see.
Every good thing has a bad section. So, let’s look at some of the cons. It is definitely harder to get there. Be prepared to walk at least a mile or two with all your gear. No flip-flops or sandals here. Boots are a must or some form of hiking shoe. Rocks, stumps, wet spots all pose as hazards to you and your feet.
