Mike Huckabee, an American politician, Christian minister, and a former Governor of Arkansas. Huckabee speculates in his article “The battle goes beyond Planned Parenthood” that America should end abortion. Although Huckabee argues his points that abortion is taking money out of are paychecks and harvesting babies’ organs, he weakens his argument by using insufficient and unrepresentative samples. As a result, support needed to make this a strong argumentative writing. One of the argument’s weaknesses is that it depends on an insufficient sample. Huckabee’s sample consists of “…government confiscates money from our paycheck only to bankroll these barbaric butchers with five hundred million dollars each years”. Huckabee bases his broad conclusion that Americans should be upset over the fact women are spending their money on abortions. Five hundred million is too large a sample to accurately represent all the money that is being taking form all Americans. It has no credibility and doesn’t provide any sources of accurate information to know the exact amount of money to help this claim. …show more content…
Although Huckabee suggests that “Destroying innocent life and harvesting human organs is beyond barbaric—it is unimaginably immoral, grotesque, and evil”. This claim cannot represent all women, there are reasons why women have abortions. Some main reasons are they aren’t financially ready, they might have been raped, and feel like they are unfit to be a parent. This claim is not credible because every women have their own reasons to have an abortion and they shouldn’t be judged by that. Huckabee’s conclusion, drawn from himself, hurts the logic of the article because it cannot represent all women based on abortion that that he makes those claims
Pro Life was against the partnership of Komen with Planned Parenthood mainly due to its abortion services. However in 2011 Komen defended her partnership with the Planned Parenthood by stating that it was the best option for treatment for the poor, minor and many uninsured women. Also there are statements that assured that the funding from the Komen to the Planned Parenthood was exclusively used for the breast cancer program. But due to extreme pressure the Komen was influenced to act in the favor of the prolife and finally posted a statement on its website on November 30, 2011 stating that it would no longer fund the embryonic stem cell research centers. In order to cope with the crisis situation Komen hired Ogilvy crisis management public
This article documents the Republicans in the Iowa legislature creating public policy on abortion based on the Christian worldview. Life is sacred under the Christian worldview. As such any laws that allow for the taking of an innocent life, such as a child’s, are illegal and immoral. Therefore “Christians must come to the children’s defense, and Christians must come to the defense of human life as such.” The article reports on the broader effort in other State Legislatures across the country to restrict and ultimately end the practice of
In a time fraught with hot button issues, one that polarizes perhaps more than any other is that of abortion. Unfortunately, it is also an issue that is difficult to write about while remaining unbiased. Paul Stark’s “How Abortion Hurts Women” and Sarah Barnes’ “The Long Term Effects of Abortion on Women” both set out to prove that abortion has serious side effects on the affected party. Both Stark and Barnes cite several studies done in both America and abroad to support their claims, as well as, in Barnes case, offering their own insights on the matter. It seems that both authors purpose is to enlighten their audiences on the under-reported effects of abortion on women in order to spark a new conversation that doesn’t center around the unborn
November will be approaching soon and will be time to elect our next President. Bernie Sanders is a seventy-four-year-old male running for the Democratic party. Hillary Clinton is the wife of Ex-President Bill Clinton and also running for the Democratic party. Donald Trump is a businessman running for the Republican nomination to be the President of 2016. Ted Cruz is a senator from Texas and a candidate for the Republican nomination. Jill Stein is a physician and activist who is currently running for the Green Party nomination.
Leaked videos from Planned Parenthood have caused frenzy among Americans and there have been debates on whether or not to continue funding this organization. These videos reveal Planned Parenthood officials discussing selling fetal tissue for profit. While they are proved to be edited videos, many people are still wary about the whole situation. Joining along with this frenzy is Ruth Marcus, whose article, Defunding Planned Parenthood would actually increase abortions, argues why Planned Parenthood should still be funded. Marcus provides substantial evidence including pathos and logos to support her claim; however, it is her ethos that is questionable. With numerous fallacies plaguing her argument, her ethos is damaged, thus affecting the argument’s
baby, and on the other hand people supporting pro-life believe abortion takes the life of
“I will defend Planned Parenthood. I will defend Roe v. Wade and I will defend women's rights to make their own healthcare decisions.” -Hillary Clinton
In her “The New Scarlet Letter -- A is for Abortion”(2011), Linda Bergthold argues that the passing of the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, as well as the Hyde Amendment, not only berates women who consider abortion an option to an unpremeditated pregnancy, but also may financially “overwhelm” and metaphorically cripple the expecting mother. Bergthold provides statistical evidence in which she states the outrageous cost of having an abortion, and the “stupid” idea of abortion coverage in insurance policies due to the fact that one does not “plan on having an abortion when they sign up for insurance coverage”; not to mention the fact that it may not work as planned in the new health system. Bergthold aims to disprove those who are attempting to
Planned Parenthood is a controversial topic sweeping the nation of America with political and moral issues. Every day one could come across a new article on it, stubble upon a news article in their local paper or even on their local news station. Planned Parenthood directly provides reproductive health services, is involved in teach young students about sexual education, contributes to research in reproductive technology, and interacts with legal and political efforts aimed at protecting and developing reproductive rights.
One of the most contentious issues in America, abortion, is still discussed on a daily basis. Women should be able to make their own decision with their bodies because it involves their bodies, health, and futures. Conversely, one of America’s presidential candidates wants to repeal Roe v. Wade, which allows women to make their own intimate decision. In one of his recent speeches, Donald Trump states that women who seek abortion should be subject to “some form of punishment” (Flegenheimer, et al.). Trump was highly criticized for making this statement, but he continued to mention that ripping a baby out of the womb on the last day of pregnancy is immoral. Trump seems to misunderstand that most abortions happen during the first trimester of
Someone once said,“Being pro choice doesn’t mean you would have an abortion. It just means you think the choice is yours, not the government's. In the New York Times editorial written on June 27, 2016, entitled, “ A Major Victory for Abortion Rights,” the writers are targeting young women can understand that the choice of abortion should be in the women's hands. This article is about keeping abortion legal in America, but primarily Texas. The writer's emotional appeals, word choices, and logic to successfully encourage the readers.
Another issue that could lead to a civil rights movement is with our new President Donald Trump and where he stands on abortion and the funding of Planned Parenthood. This brings up controversy because on the more right side, people’s argument is that you are essentially ending a human life with getting an abortion. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider and has more than 7 million pre-born babies that have died as a result of the mothers visiting. The argument for the left is that Planned Parenthood is the country’s leading provider of reproductive health care. If it stops receiving federal funding it could have millions of women, men, and young people from live-saving preventive care: cancer screenings, breast exams,
Abortion is the deliberate killing of the weakest and most defenseless among us. Unfortunately, for the last few decades, the practice has been recognized as a fundamental human right by the highest court of the land. American culture has become increasingly accepting of traditional values and principles being compromised. Political correctness now replaces ethics, self-reliance is replaced by dependency, and crudeness now takes the place of knowledgeability. Today’s culture is corrupt and morally depraved, and there is no other topic that demonstrates this better than abortion.
Planned parenthood was established in 1916 in Brownsville, Brooklyn by Sanger, Byrne, and Mindell; their goal was to educate individuals and give them the necessary care that they would need. By doing so they gave millions of people a second chance to live and continue to gather opportunities because they allowed them to have control over their lives. They fought to give women the right to contraception, starting off with the Griswold v. Connecticut that allowed married women to utilize birth control. Statistics show that one out of four married women under the age 45 decided to use birth control. Planned Parenthood did not stop there, they eventually in 1972 Eisenstaedt v. Baird made it so unmarried women are a loud contraception (Planned Parenthood Is 100 Years Strong).
In the case entitled “Conceived in Violence, Born in Hate”, a twenty-seven year old woman was gagged, bound, and raped by a man, which left her pregnant. The woman then decided that she wanted to abort the fetus. Though it was not necessarily illegal, no physician would carry out the abortion. Her only options were to travel to have a legal abortion- which they could not afford- or have an illegal abortion. The woman and her husband then decided to carry through with the pregnancy because they were law abiding and they were deeply religious. The woman claimed she hated the fetus and was going to give up the child as soon as it was born. Republicans supported abortion in cases of rape and incest, but changed their view to eliminating all abortions.
