Why Baseball Is the Best Sport
As Walt Whitman stated, “I see great things in baseball. It’s our game- the American game.” Baseball has always been “America’s Pastime”- making it the greatest sport to be played. From Mike Trout to Ken Griffey Junior or even all the way back to the Babe, baseball has been a constant success in the eyes of every fanatic. Four cases come to mind to prove that baseball is a cut above all other sports. Baseball is superior over all other sports because of the food. All baseball fanatics know that the concessions are a must, every time they visit the ballpark. In 2013, there were 20,421,361 ballpark franks sold at stadiums around the MLB. The hot dogs aren’t the only attraction, though. For example, the famous chili cheese nachos at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati or the carne asada fries for the Padres. The history behind this sport is unlike any other. Jackie Robinson came into the sport in 1947 and changed the sport forever. Not only did this change affect baseball, it affected the whole world- helping the end of segregation laws in 1964. Also the records are like nothing else. No other sport can experience the atmosphere of a perfect game or a no-hitter in the making. Records are broken each and every year in baseball, making the statistics of the game just as interesting as the game itself. Another example of the MLB’s rich history is that it brought our country together during a time of need. For example, teams rallied around New York City in 2001 and honored all the victims of 9/11. During World War 2, baseball was one of the only bright spots in the world. The sport held families together and helped keep people’s minds off of actions overseas.
