Former President Calvin Coolidge once said that perseverance and determination were the most valuable qualities any person could possess. This became evident to myself during my first season on the BCHS Golf team, the first season I had ever taken part in, and on the first day it was clear to me that I was very much a beginner. Although I had been to the driving range a handful of times in preparation for the first day of practice I had not prepared myself adequately. Still I continued to practice, but it seemed to no avail, my swing and stance appeared to only becoming worse. One day after practice I requested upon my coach that I receive lessons from the course pro so that I may hone my skills, to which he agreed. Sadly, after a myriad of

Four years ago I would have never expected to be a golf team captain. Due to my variety of hobbies and interests, I like to consider myself a jack of all trades so it was hard to decide on what sports to play in high school. Upon asking my father if he had any recommendations, he told me that if I could learn the fundamentals of golf I would have a tool that could benefit me for a lifetime. I wrote down golf on the dotted registration line and, well, forgot about it.
In this report I will discuss the communication problems which exist at Rolling Meadows Golf Club. The problems discussed will deal with channels of communication. The areas which are causing problems are internal. Radios would solve these internal problems.
Ever since I was a kid playing golf, I was told to follow through on my swing. If you don’t follow through, then you will never make good contact with the ball. Now that I’m older, I realize that this not only pertains to golf but everything that I will do for the rest of my life. My mom always told me whenever I wanted to quit something that I need to follow through and that we were not quitters. She said I would never get anywhere in life if I didn’t follow through. I always follow through in both golf and life now.
I did not care much about golf before I decided to come to United States, so my score was not good enough for competing. Although I had several achievements during my freshman year, I knew that my scores, usually ranging around 100, were average for my age and not remarkable. After this first season in Tallulah Falls School, I found a new determination for the sport. I practiced hard during the next summer and prepared for my sophomore year. The golf course had become my second home. When the sophomore season started, I was ready to improve my golf skills and also make some great friends. I started loving this sport with my fantastic teammates, who improved a lot-some from knowing nothing about golf to finishing eighteen holes in a match. Refusing to be slack at practices, our team worked hard to continue our path of improvement-even the harshest of weather would not stop our passionate practices. I remember once, right after the snow, we played the next day. Although the snow had melted by the
I am involved in many clubs, sports, and volunteering opportunities including tennis, track and field, art service club, ceramics club, arrupe club, W.I.S.H club, and Landow Performance training. All of these activities have taught how to be a leader in and out of Regis. Specifically, club tennis and Regis tennis have taught me how to work as a team with my peers. During the Regis tennis season, freshman year, my partner and I lost many matches, which crushed our confidence. However, through supporting and helping each other, we overcame our loses and improved our game. This applies to NHS, because my perseverance and patience allowed me to not only regain confidence while playing, but it allowed me to grow my character. Additionally, I am now able to see the goodness in everyone I encounter from playing tennis. Outside of Regis, I am involved in a club tennis league at the Pinery where I have taken on some leadership roles including encouraging my friends to join, and showing my peers that perseverance and training to pay off. In addition to tennis, the other activities that I am involved in have allowed me to learn how to quickly solve problems and conflicts. Since childhood, I have had a chance to develop my leadership, organizational skills, and problem solving through all of these
Miami Senior High’s golf team began the 2016 season with a fairly inexperienced team. Coach Upperco expressed his bittersweet feelings towards retiring from Miami Senior High after many years of devotion to not only his students but his athletes as well, by assuring that next season’s team, which will be coached by Mr. Zuniga, will be “one of the top teams in Miami Dade County.” The team captain, Wendy Chong, said the “biggest challenge” she faced as captain was that she was in the process of learning a new sport as she had the pressure to be a strong leader for the rest of the team.
Since I was eights years old, I’ve been hitting a ball off a Tee. Sometimes it becomes repetitive and boring, but stepping into a live batters box is where all of that hard work comes into play. Growing up, my parents would always find someone to give me lessons or find a travel team that seemed to be a good fit for me. I was fortunate to have parents to push me to become a better athlete and support me at all of my sporting events. I’ve had several, and I mean several, batting, pitching, and fielding lessons. Because of my ability to quickly learn something after seeing it done once, I picked up how to become a
I was fortunate enough to get on a club lacrosse team to play in the summer season, a season I took off previously to coming to New Hampton my first year. I met a lot of good friends and throughout this experience my skills improved exceptionally. I made a pact with myself before the end of the school year that I needed to work out this summer and get stronger and faster to improve my athletic ability. So, I took it upon myself to go to the gym near my house and get a personal trainer. Throughout the whole summer working with my trainer, Drew, I completely revamped my game. My shot got faster, my stability got better, I got stronger and in general became a high quality lacrosse player. I got into this habit of keeping myself busy which is the best thing I’ve done for myself. I decided with between working out and playing for my club team, I should get a personal trainer for lacrosse as well. This way I could acquire skill in so many new areas that I couldn’t learn from a generic practice. I knew that doing a combination of all these things with a strong mindset, that my abilities could only get improve tremendously. All the things I did to refine my game has helped me further than what I could imagine in the beginning of the summer. I was unaware I still had potential to be the player I am
Relate topic to audience: As we get older, we get less active and many people cannot play physical sports or don’t have that stamina that we have at our age to run around and do whatever. Learning a proper golf swing is the stepping stool in the golf world and the beginning of getting into a game that can teach you patience, manners, and relieve your stress.
When I first came to Lake Highland in seventh grade my parents wanted me to be on a team to get to know people and the only sport I knew was golf. I came to the tryouts with no experience of tournaments, hammy down clubs from my sister, and not appropriate golf attire. I tried very hard for the team, but I did I didn't have the skills to make it on. It was very devastating for me because I have never been turned down before, but I knew that I had to change. After this failure I decided that I should try harder in golf. I never did take the sport seriously and barely practiced, but after being turned down I decided to step up my game. I started to practice harder and more often by my own choice. I also started to play in tournaments, which I
I take pride in my ability to encourage the team not just during the matches, but to push themselves to be their best during practice and workouts. My integrity is prevalent on the golf course as well, allowing for my honest character to represent not only myself but my team and school. Some days can be tough, where my score on the course is high and my disappointment in myself rises, however I maintain a professional and positive mindset to keep my team in the
Freshman golf ended miserably, but I wasn’t even close to giving up. In Arkansas golf, high school isn’t a big deal like in Football and Basketball. It’s the tournaments held by the Arkansas State golf Association that are most respected. So my golfing year wasn’t really over, it had actually just begun. So I began to practice more, and focus solely on golf. It seemed the harder I practiced, the worse I got. I was trying too hard, and playing badly in tournaments. It was extremely heartbreaking. This was the only think that I had complete confidence in and I couldn’t
Since the age of four, when I was barely old enough to swing a putter, I have loved the game of golf. My dad, passing his love of the game down to me, would take me out every Sunday to Woods Edge Golf Course in Edgewood; he taught me the ins and outs and the dos and don’ts of the sport. One of the earliest memories I have of these trips to Woods Edge is being a mere couple of inches from driving the cart into a pond while dad was teeing off; this would definitely be considered a don’t in the world of golf. I received my first set of clubs for Christmas when I was eight and a year later, a pass to Pin Oak. Boy was I thrilled. I began to golf by myself and learn my own lessons through my experiences on the course. But as I grew as a golfer on my own, my dad was still there tweaking my swing in the back yard and taking trips to Edgewood with me. My dad is a big reason why I have a passion for the game of golf.
Many people take up Golf thinking that it is easy, after all, how hard can it be to hit a little white ball with a stick? This thinking evaporates the first time they step onto a driving range and attempt to hit that little white ball. Golf is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. My experience with golf began in May of 2005 when friends came to stay with us; my wife informed me that I would have to take Roy, her friend’s husband Golfing. I had not been to a driving range (since I was in my teens) and I had never played golf on a course before. It was quite an experience; the weather was cold, rainy and nasty the three times we played while they where here, the game hooked me badly, even with the bad shots and the nasty weather.
