There used to be places that were known for torture, forced labor, and murder. People were dragged out of their own homes to be brought there. These places were called concentration camps. They were the largest Nazi killing centers and they took the lives of over a million Jews. The camps are an important part of history that we will never forget.

There really is no possible way to determine the exact number of people who suffered and lost their lives in the camps because not all people who arrived were registered as inmates. Instead, they were immediately sent to the Zyklon B gas chambers or killed (Auschwitz). These torture sites were established in the late 1940s and did not end until 1944-1945 (Auschwitz-Birkenau- “The). One year after the camp had begun it soon built a reputation for torture and death (Auschwitz-Birkenau- “The). Auschwitz was made for three main reasons: confine both real and perceived enemies of the Nazi regime, provide people for labor in construction-related enterprises, and serve a place to kill people whose life was determined by the Schutzstaffel, also known as the SS (Holocaust). A man named Adolf Hitler was determined to kill everyone who he believed were not fit for survival in Nazi Germany. In order to meet his beliefs, he turned the concentration camps into places solely for killing Jews as a “final solution”; he called the camps death camps …show more content…
Some of the experiments they used them for included treatments for hypothermia, maximum height that crews from damaged aircraft could parachute to safety, making seawater safe to drink, treatments for contagious diseases, test drug efficacy, sterilization, and Josef Mengele’s experiments on twins (Medical). Although many other SS physicians conducted experiments in the camps, Mengele’s are the most famous. Before he came to the camps, he performed numerous experiments on twins. When he arrived at the camps he was told it was okay to kill them, so he took that opportunity to perform long, painful and dangerous experiments

Concentration Camps were an imfamous event in WWII. But, not in a good way. Concentration Camps were not only the place where millions of innocent people were brutally murdered. They were so much more. During WWII, there were over 1,200 camps that were run by Nazi Germany. They were placed all over Europe and held many people of different beliefs, races, abilty, age, and religion. Hitler, the “ruler” over the Nazis, sent millions of people to their death to these camps. There were a few different types of camps that held different ways of handling the prisioners.
Of all of the death camps built by the Nazis during World War II, none was larger or more destructive than the terrifying Auschwitz camp. Auschwitz was built by the Nazis in 1940, in Oswiecim, Poland, and was composed of three main parts. Auschwitz I was built in June 1940 and was intended to hold and kill Polish political prisoners. Auschwitz II-Birkenau, which opened October 1941, was larger and could contain over 100,000 inmates. Auschwitz III-Monowitz provided slave labor for a plant close by. In addition, there were many sub-camps. The most important camp at Auschwitz designed for the extermination of many people was Birkenau; numerous gas chambers and crematoria were established there, mainly to murder and incinerate Jews as
During World War II, millions of people were forcefully taken and placed into Nazi concentration camps. In the time between 1933 and 1945, Nazi Germany established thousands of concentration camps all across Europe. These camps were used for many cruel purposes such as forced-labor camps, transit camps which served as temporary way stations, and extermination camps built primarily or exclusively for mass murder. When the Holocaust finally came to an end, a total of over 11 million people were estimated to have been murdered in concentration camps, leaving only a small fraction of those imprisoned to survive. All in all, Nazi concentration camps left a stain of fear on the hearts of millions of innocent people.
In 1940 Auschwitz was established in the suburbs of Oswiecim. Oswiecim is a Polish city that was annexed to the Third Reich by the Nazis. Auschwitz was established because there were too many Polish people in the local prisons. In 1942 Auschwitz became a death camp and it was the largest known. (http://auschwitz.org/, n.d.) The camp was expanded throughout its existence, this resulted in Auschwitz consisting of three camps. The three camps were Main Camp, Birkenau, and Monowitz. Main Camp was known as Auschwitz I, Birkenau was known as Auschwitz II, and Monowitz was known as Auschwitz III. (Preisler, n.d.) Auschwitz was liberated in 1945. “Historians and analysts estimate the number of people murdered at Auschwitz somewhere between 2.1 million

Slide 2: The total death count at the three main Auschwitz camps was estimated by commissions to be between 1.2 million and 1.5 million people, which included mainly Jews at Birkenau but also Roma, Sinti, Poles, Soviet POWS and political prisoners. As a result, this made Auschwitz one of the most deadly concentration
Some of the most notorious death camps were located in Poland. Some of these include Auschwitz (1 million Jews killed), Treblinka (700,000-800,000 Jews gassed), Belzec (600,000 Jews gassed), and Sobibor (250,000 Jews gassed). These camps were the major centers for the slaughter of Jews and other groups (The Holocaust: An Historical Summary. Article on the Internet).
The Holocaust nearly made the Jewish population and religion disappear from the face of the Earth. From January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945; Adolf Hitler, German politician and leader of the Nazi party, ran the Holocaust all over Germany and Eastern Europe. Prisoners and victims of the Holocaust include: the majority of the Jewish population, German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, and people accused of socially deviant or socially unacceptable behavior. They were sent to many different areas that had different purposes. The most used places they were sent to are called concentration camps. Once they entered the concentration camps, there was no escaping; those people officially became prisoners. There were 23 main concentration camps and around 900 sub camps. Concentration camps tricked the Jewish people into coming into them by offering them a better life on the welcoming signs outside. Some of the main camps had many different inhumane uses. All of the camps are notorious for their cruel and evil ways of everything that they did to prisoners, such as the genocide the Holocaust caused (Concentration Camps, Killing Methods, Jewish Population).
Now around 1934 there were at least over fifty-five concentration camps, but every camp had a different purpose, one purpose could be could be how they transport them to others camps to do forced labor and other would trap them into a little cave where they made sure there everything was in its right order. You had camps that were alongside the railroad, then you had some that were in the middle of nowhere. The condition were so traumatizing that the Nazis kept telling the Jews to have hope. The Nazis enjoy making them suffers. One of the largest concentration camp was the Auschwitz, it came about on April 27, 1940. It was a death camp. Camps now a days are fun for children when they are bored during the summer they can stay there for weeks make friends and learn all sorts of new stuff while their parents don’t have to deal with them for a while and are sure they are safe and having fun. The camps that are going to be learned about in this reading are the exact opposite, these camps only terrorize, safety is never an option, death is the only answer, and parents would never want their kids to go to through all of this torture and fear. Auschwitz known as the term for the largest camps during the Holocaust was a complex of camps from concentration, forced-labor to death camps. There were three main areas from the many camps including: Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II (Birkenau),
