Being isolated from one's peers is not an easy thing to handle. Rayona spends her days alone, wondering about her mother and blaming herself for her troubles. This enhances her feelings of inadequacy. Rayona pulls inside herself by keeping her worries private. When others inquire about Ray's condition, she conceals her problems with lies. By lying she dismisses her difficulties; denies their existence to herself. Inside, she is falling apart; the stress she has to deal with brings her near to a mental collapse.
This is true, to some effect. However, it is not as easy as it may
Last example, she knows to consider the consequence. For illustration, when Lina’s family is eating in the shack, she told the owner, Ulyushka, to eat with them. If Ulyushka take the food, she probably will not tell the NKVD, so they will not get into trouble and that is the brilliant part of her. Secondly, Elena can be characterized as hopeless in multiple ways. First instance, when Jonas is sick, she does not know how to cure him. The narrator said, “Mother rushed out into the snow to beg, leaving me with Jonas” (Sepetys 193). However, Elena has to beg for help, so Jonas can be cured and this action exposes the hopelessness of her. Another instance, she is hopeless because her family does not know when will they see each other and go back to home together. Her family is taken from their house in the late night, and they do not know what they did wrong and what caused this to happen. Furthermore, watching others being killed and wondering when is the ending of this event is like a torment to all of the

Sasha’s story details her downfall in a stream of consciousness narrative that takes the reader from one thing to the next and back again. It tells of the things she has sensed which leads to the inevitable end of hopelessness which causes her to suffer severe disconnection from the world around her. The problem is, absolute hopelessness is the best thing that Sasha could find for herself.
There is no indication she has had a manic or hypomanic episode. Her depression may be complicated by grief due to her father’s death one year ago. Her symptoms seem to get worse after his passing.
