Question 1: The three types of group leadership styles are the Authoritarian, Democratic, and Liassez-Faire. The advantages of the Authoritarian leadership style are having more structure in a group settings and allowing the leader to have more control of the direction of the group. However, there are disadvantages of the leadership style, such as not allowing the members to freely interact among another. Additionally, the leadership style can intimidate members from continuing to attend group meetings. On the contrary, several cultures might be more comfortable with the leadership style.
Secondly, the democratic leadership style in my opinion is between authoritarian and laze fair. The group is directed by leader, but he/she allows members to speak freely and openly among another. Yet, there is some sort of structure. The advantage of this structure is the style allowing members to be encouraged to share their feeling and views. It is difficult for myself to find an advantage of the leadership style. Therefore, the one thing I believe could be a disadvantage would be an individual taking advantage of the limited freedom within the group.

This type of style would be benefited in the task group setting. The advantages of the laissez faire leadership would be members being able to discuss the outcomes and what they would like to change without discussing it without a leader. Furthermore, besides of the style being used in a task group setting, I would not recommend being used in support, self-help, or group therapy because in those groups meeting those individuals need a professional who has the role of authority to change direction of the group if
Democratic leadership style is the leadership style I would implement. I would implement this leadership style because I feel that everyone’s opinions and views on the discussion is important. If you get a consensus of group members you get a greater view to make a greater judgment on how to build guidelines. Also getting input from all group members gets people involved and permits them to get their input for decisions that will
When using an authoritarian leadership style, close adherence to regulations and policies are the fundamentals of this leadership style. Workers are held to a specific standard, and the relationship is purely professional. In a democratic leadership style, the decision-making ability is shared. The superintendent relies on feedback from the foremen when making decisions.
Furthermore, there are different theories which give insights about why some leaders lead the way they do. One of these theories is the behavioral theory, it emphasized on what leaders do and their leadership styles. The behavioral theory explains three different types of leadership styles namely: autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire. An autocratic leader makes plans, gives direction on how to execute them, and makes decisions for the group. These type of leaders are highly power control. They give little or no freedom to the members. Whatever they say is final. On the other hand, democratic leaders allow members to participate in the decision making. They seek opinions of the members. On the other hand, laissez-faire leaders allow members to do whatever they like. This type of leaders does very little planning or decision making thus fail to encourage others to do it (Weiss and Tappen, 2015 p.
A democratic leader generally accept any opinion and voices which means that the team would feel free to voice their opinions and ideas without them being dismissed straight away. The positive side to this style is that the team/workforce can be highly motivated, skilled and experienced members can be used in decision making which makes them feel more committed and could less resistant to managerial changes it also help with communication between the workforce and the managers. The negative side to this style is that individuals can dominate participation or make disruptive contributions it can also be very time consuming for the leader because of the two communication it can also result in actions that are the most effective and also people may view this style as incompetent to handle the job responsibilities.
Different situations call for different sorts of leadership styles. A democratic leadership is better where many people's lives are in balance. However, there are exceptions to the rules (Nursing Leadership: Management & Leadership Styles, 2014). Leadership styles like democracy have advantages and disadvantages.
With that in mind, leadership theory has identified four management styles--authoritarian, democratic, participatory, and laissez-faire. There is inherently nothing wrong with any of them; all have their place at any given time. But it's the communication aspect that is important when implementing any given method of leadership that makes an organization rise or fall, and determines if respect is retained or lost within the group. Stated another way, the problem does not lie in the styles themselves, but rather in the presentation.
The six basic styles of leadership presented (Coercive, Authoritative, Affiliative, Democratic, and Coaching) can have either a net positive or net negative affect on an organizations climate. The basis for being
In this essay, I will be discussing policies enacted by Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government and explaining how they relate to the political compass. In the first paragraph, I will explain the difference between libertarian and authoritarian policies. In the second paragraph, I will discuss the Liberal government’s proposal to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act to add gender expression to the list of prohibited grounds of discrimination, and illustrate why that constitute a libertarian policy. In the third paragraph, I will discuss the liberal proposal amending the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and why that constitute an authoritarian policy. Afterward, in the fourth paragraph, I will explain the difference between the left-wing and the right-wing policies. In the fifth paragraph, I will discuss the Canadian Liberal government decision on the rise of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) payouts and why that constitute a left-wing policy. Then in the sixth paragraph, I will discuss the Liberal’s Canada-EU free trade agreement and why that constitute a right-wing policy.
the one that provides no guidance to the members of the team and fully let them make their own decisions. The fact that the author turned out a democratic leader was not surprising because the author believes this approach to be the most effective and focused on the members of the team rather on the leader.
There are three classic leadership styles. Kurt Lewin’s leadership styles vary in the degree of control that they give their followers. Kurt Lewin (1890-1947) was a social psychologist whose extensive work covered studies of leadership styles and their effects, along with many other theories (Kurt Lewin). Along with two other colleagues, Lewin performed research on the effects of three different leadership styles and the outcome on groups of boys. The three leadership styles that a manager can have; Authoritarian, Laissez-Faire, and Democratic.
Professional leadership comprises of mentoring, empowering and participating actively in organizations. The APN, as an effective leader should be able to collaborate with team members, mentored and be mentor and provide empowerment (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, & O’Grady, 2014). Authoritarian, Democratic and Delegative are the three styles of leaderships. Authoritarian leaders focus on control and command , Democratic leaders focus on guidance and encouraging input, while Delegative leaders focus on independence with minimal or no guidance (About.com Psychology, n.d.).
I do feel like this compass accurately describes me because I am a mixture of both authoritarian and libertarian views. I also feel like the reason why I am almost in the center is because I have very few stout opinions on political views so I am neither strong libertarian nor authoritarian. The libertarian side of this compass appeals to me because they want people to have freedom of choice and this is something that I agree on. I do question the powerful leaders of this country like a libertarian would because I do not want to follow blindly and trust them quickly without looking into what their actual morals, beliefs and policies are. With the freedom I feel like people deserve, I also do think that there should be structure and order to
An authoritative leader addresses the end but generally gives workers freedom to innovate, experiment and take risks. The authoritative style works best for organizations that are off track, it helps in creating a new course and fresh long-term vision. The affiliative style strives to keep employees happy to create harmony among. The style has a positive effect on communication. People who like one another a lot talk lot. They share ideas, inspirations leading to flexibility, innovation and risk taking. This style should only be employed when trying to build team harmony. The democratic style allows leaders to build consensus through participation. By spending time getting people’s ideas, a leader is able to build trust, respect and commitment. This style works best when a leader is uncertain about best direction however, it does not make sense if employees are not competent. Pacesetting is a leadership style that expects excellence and self-direction. The leader is obsessive about doing things better and faster, and expects the same of everyone around
Autocratic leadership is a classical leadership style with the following characteristics: manager seeks to make as many decisions as possible, manager seeks to have the most authority and control in decision making, manager seeks to retain responsibility rather than utilise complete delegation , consultation with other colleagues in minimal and decision making becomes a solitary process managers are less concerned with investing their own leadership development, and prefer to simply work on the task at hand. Whereas Democratic Leadership is the leadership style that promotes the sharing of responsibility, the exercise of delegation and continual consultation. The style has the following characteristics: manager seeks consultation on all
The last style is called laissez-faire leadership. Here leader usually participates minimally and let team members find their own way out by allowing complete freedom in decision making (Simmons and Striley, 2014).
