Essential oils and aromatherapy are great options for babies and children. One of the best therapeutic uses of aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to calm your child. You do have to take precautions, though, and use oils that have been deemed safe for children. Additionally, children under two years old are always more sensitive than older children, so keep that in mind when you are choosing an oil.

Baths
Another wonderful way to use essential oils to calm your child is in the bath. A teaspoon of either of the two massage blends above is great added to a tub of warm water. You can also try the following milk bath recipe.
Calming Milk Bath
This is a great way to promote sleep and help your child calm down after a long day. This recipe is based on the dilution for babies. Base the number of drops of essential oil on the age of your child. If your child can have 4 drops of oil based on their age, you can also add 2 drops of each oil.
1 drop Lavender or Roman Chamomile essential oil 1½ tablespoons whole milk
Room Diffusion
Diffusion can be beneficial because if a child is cranky or upset, everyone else in the household usually is, too!
If you have an aromatherapy diffuser, use it. Or simply add essential oil to a small bowl of steaming water. Make sure the child cannot reach the bowl. Add a drop or two of essential oil to the water.
