By cutting out school during these months it will allow more money to go towards something else in the school and not just electricity bills. Raising cost can also lead to not having money to pay for other stuff such as school activities.(Year-Round Schooling: 3 Common Arguments Against …show more content…
For instance a logistic concern was if “family with kids in different schools operating on different tracks could have a tough time scheduling day care or family vacations.” so if we attended an year round school and we had a little brother or sister and maybe a child of our own we would have to make schedule adjustments. Some people don't have extra money to pay a babysitter or a daycare. So therefore if a parent has to work late and their child goes to an year round school that parent will have to make adjustments at their job and some can even lose their jobs because of not having anyone to watch their children they will have to watch them instead of going to work. (Year-Round Schooling: 3 Common Arguments Against It) All In Favor Say I There were some topics about being for year round and don’t get me wrong there were some good points. I read in an article that students tend to forget a lot during the summer breaks, so shorter time away from school might increase retention votes. The explain that remediation is more easily accessed during the time school. Most people say that “the most popular form of year-round education is the 45-15 plan” which mean they are in school for 45 days in school and 15 days out of school. Articles also say that by going to an year round school it will improve test scores. (The
The first reason i'm against year-round school because we wouldn't have our summer break, The reason why it's a bad thing to not have summer break we won't get to enjoy outside activities we won't be able to have much fun as we deserve to because it wouldn't be fair. I thank it's better to have a summer instead of going all round school.
So why is there such opposition for year-round school? The concerns seem to arise with the idea of taking away summer vacation. Most cite that both the students and the teachers need a break from school. This also the time where many families have vacation. Summer is the time where family spend time together without homework and project due dates looming over the students. This looming inevitably happens during the
It doesn’t affect you academically, it’s expensive, and it is more difficult. A reason why year round school should not happen is because it does not help you academically. Evidence shows that academic achievement with year-round education is inconclusive. The reason why is because these schools offer more breaks to make up for being in school year-round, so students end up reviewing more than they’re learning.
Year-round schooling is a good idea because it cuts down on the set backs of long breaks. The summer break that everyone knows and loves used to have a different purpose then just swimming in the sun. In the 19th century the children going to school also worked on family farm, so they used this summer “vacation” to help get ready for the winter months. (McFadden and McMahon) Now that there is less farming families schools do not have to worry about that. By the end of the year, YRS
Why is a year-round school a bad idea? Having a summer vacation gives students motivation throughout the school year. It is a bad idea to make our winter break longer than summer break because some students work over the summer, students are not getting the best education they could, and they will not have much time to spend with their family.
Mathew Lynch in Huff Post Education says “The Summer months are typically the highest ones for energy consumption. In fact, the average electricity bill for homeowners in the summer months goes up 4 to 8 percent, the same concept would be true of schools. Having empty classrooms in the summer months means less money going out to air conditioning and prevents other warm-weather costs from hitting school utility budgets.” Personally I couldn’t agree with that more. If the school board switches to the Year-Round schooling we will be wasting more money that this school doesn’t
Believe it or not keeping a school open costs quite a bit of money. If schools are open longer the maintenance costs go up about 10% more. Many people believe that having school year-round education may be cheaper but it certainly does not guarantee savings. These costs may add up and in turn interfere with budgets for other programs that are already struggling with funding such as sports, music, arts and other programs funded by the state. Also lets not forget air conditioning is not free. With today's current economy most students have to pay for their collage and in result get summer jobs or part-time jobs to raise money. Year-round schooling could make it difficult for students to keep jobs and save their money. Low income families can get hurt in this situation. Lastly, teachers must be paid for all the weeks they are working, with all these factors the cost of keeping schools open skyrockets. In Tempe, AZ, a high school experienced an increase of $157,000 per

Does year round school truly have a positive impact in the lives of students? Various studies do suggest that year round school is helpful. There are some disadvantages to this type of schooling that are preventing all schools from switching to this type of scheduling. In earlier times schools were only teaching throughout half of the year so that school would be out of session when it was time to work in the fields. This type of scheduling is still common today even though only a small portion of agriculture is tied into education and kids are no longer required to work. “In 1994, the National Education Commission on Time and Learning (1994) urged school districts to develop school calendars that acknowledged (a) differences in student learning and (b) the major changes taking place in American society. The report reflected growing concern about how the school calendar relates to students at risk for academic failure” (Cooper, Nye, Charlton, James, & Greathouse). I think it's funny that the subject of year-round school is still a topic of debate. The reason is I just want to have good teachers and get a good education. I really don't care when and how the schedule is set up because I know my mom and dad will support me and get me to where and when I need to be. But, if I had a choice I would choose to have a schedule similar to what Nick Castellino writes about in his letter. I feel that of the two letters Nick wrote the one I agreed with more. Nick's letter, seemed to me, to be mainly about doing away with year-round school.
The topic of year around school has been brought up many times throughout my time in school. Though it has been brought up, it has not actually been considered by my fellow students and I. We have all taken surveys regarding it and most of the people I know have been against it. With our school being in a small town in Iowa I do not think having year round schooling would benefit us or the community.
“It’s for the public it’s year round and it 's also for the schools because we 're going to re-establish our school programs and all our outreach programs” Susan Hayward. Will year round schooling help or benefit the schools of the United States and society? Year round schools could change the reasons why teachers are teaching ("Top 10 Reasons"). Elimination of extended breaks from schools in the United States. would be beneficial to the population.
Another reason in the article “Schools should be year round” that Students in year-round schools are less likely to have to miss school for a trip that isn’t in the summer. This meaning that they can have their long vacation in the summer because they’ll have a long summer break than just on breaks, for example Spring and Winter break.
