Cosmetic animal testing is NOT a thing of the past and many big branded companies are still testing their products on animals. As Elle Woods once said, “I’m here to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves”.
#BeCrueltyFree Australia is a campaign in partnership between Humane Research Australia and Humane Society International. They are commanding that the Australian government joins the 30+ countries to say no to animal testing. (Tweet)
The Europe Union, Norway, Israel and India are all cruelty free countries whilst The United States, New Zealand and Australia are still fighting. Animal testing isn’t just putting lipstick on a pig, it is continuously injecting chemicals into them until they die. Here are the facts:
Cosmetic brands

Dermal penetration is a testing method used on rats. It is done to analysis the penetration of a chemical into the bloodstream and to have a better understanding of skin absorption.

Another method used is acute toxicity which is purposed to detect the danger of exposer to chemical by mouth, skin or inflammation. This is tested on rats and mice as they are injected with 50% lethal dose and can cause a loss of motor functions, seizures and convolution to the

These companies use alternative testing methods such as ‘in vitro screens’, which is used to test the potential risks of high sensitivity and specificity to humans. They can also create their products by choosing from a list of 5000 safe ingredients that have already been tested with modern technology, therefore there is no need for animal testing.
Lush, a fresh handmade cosmetic store in Australia believes “in buying ingredients only from companies that do not commission tests on animals and in testing our products on humans.” Lush UK composed a ‘Fighting Animal Testing Campaign’ in 2012 to bring animal testing back into the public eye in the most dramatic way possible. How can you help? There are many ways and many organisations that promote cruelty free campaigns. You can act by:
Using cosmetic products that do not test on animals (obviously). This will ensure that brands that support animal cruelty do not gain any extra funding and in future will change their actions. If you are unsure if the brand tests on animals, contact them and ask if their products/ingredients are tested on animals and if they use newly developed
A lot of people buy cosmetic products being ignorant to the fact that, that one product has killed a lot of animals. How would you like being sprayed with poisonous liquids, taking poisonous eye drops?, or being fed toxic substances? Cosmetic factories have been doing these inhumane things and more to innocent animals for years.
Animal testing should not be used in cosmetic industries as a source of experimentation because it is unethical and inefficient. It is a cruel way of trying to find results that are not even always trustworthy. Everyone has a different reaction to different chemicals so why even bother animals for testing? Also different species can respond differently when exposed to the same chemical so animal testing can be inefficient. The results from animal tests can be quite variable and difficult to interpret therefore it may not be applicable to human beings. Thus, consumer safety still cannot be guaranteed even after these gruesome tests which are totally unethical. It is also unethical to torture and end the lives of these animals each year for our own luxury. Everyday cosmetic industries are using defenseless animals very cruelly just to carry out some most often useless tests. Instead they should use other alternatives which has been proved to yield better and accurate results than tests involving animals.
Revlon and Avon then stopped animal testing. Animal testing will always be debated because cosmetic companies need to test their products before selling them to guarantee they aren't harmful. Animals are most likely their easiest resource to test because testing on humans isn't realistic and more issues would arise. These scientists are more worried about the brand rather than the animals they might be
I’ve noticed over time that products have no animal testing printed on the labels as well as many commercials that indicate they do not test their products on animals either. Researchers have started using other means to test products. Researchers are now able to grow skin cells and create a “lung-on-a-chip” along with other organs. (Erin Bilba) They are also using computer programs to determine the effects of chemicals on the human body. The goal is to cease animal testing in its entirety.
Animal testing is a cruel way to try and develop new products. There are several other and much safer options that will get better results and potentially save up to two million animals every single year. The Animal Welfare Act is in place but only minimally protects certain animals and leaves many others, up to 95%, vulnerable to atrocious fates. The animals not protected by this act (mostly small or considered house pets) are most widely used and not related closely to humans. There are several alternative methods but they are being neglected since they are new and not being enforced because of it. A few countries and states have banned certain aspect of animal testing but others are encouraging this cruelty.
Many singers have attempted to perform Whitney Houston's classic "I Will Always Love You." However, very few of them are able to perform the song as well as Whitney Did. A singer named Josh Weathers recently performed this song. Before he performed, he stated that he would be doing a song to honor his mother on her birthday. At first, the crowd did not take him seriously because he seemed to be joking when he first got on stage.
A rabbit lives its life trapped in a laboratory. It doesn’t get fresh air and has different products tested on it every day. The product can make the rabbit go blind or cause its skin to burn, but there is nothing the rabbit can do about it. This is what happens to animals every day from cosmetic companies who test their products on animals. According to Cruelty Free Kitty (2017), over 30 cosmetic companies continue to use animal testing to improve their products. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (2017), “the agency has consistently advised cosmetic manufactures to employ whatever testing is appropriate and effective for substantiating the safety of their products.” This means that if the company believes animal testing is the best option for their product they are allowed to do it. Testing cosmetics on animals is cruel and inhumane, and people should avoid using products that test on animals.
The companies such as the body shop said that they do not experiment on animals and they produce good cosmetics who make money, I am not agree that making the cosmetics that make our faces better does not mean the animals must suffering in terrible ways, it does not seem moral for me. On the other hand we also use the animals for test the new drugs.
Buy only cosmetics, personal care products, and cleaning products that have not been tested on animals like: Elf, Aveda, NYX, Bath & Bod Works, Tarte, Trader Joe’s, Nature’s Gate, Wet N Wild, Bare Minerals, Pacifica, Seventh Generation, Mrs. Meyers, Sephora Collection, Victoria’s Secret, Essie, in thousands of options that not only are cruelty free, but are healthy, good to the environment and everyone wins. Also, why not make some yourself? It is easy, inexpensive, and the most important: it is ecological and kind to animals. Encourage your friends, family, co-workers to do the same and inform them of the awful situations in animal experimentation. A list of companies who test on animals and as well a list of the cruelty free companies are available from organizations such as PETA and The Human Society of the United States. Get more involved and be the laboratory animals voice, contact your state representatives and federal agencies to demand the validation of non-animal methods to become a high priority by increasing pressure from the public, together we can make a change. Society needs to take notice of these serious problems because innocent lives should not be subjected to this form of
Each year, thousands of animals are brutally tortured in laboratories, in the name of cosmetic research. A movement to ban animal testing for cosmetic purposes has been gaining popularity, with many companies hopping on the bandwagon against this research. New alternatives have been developed to eliminate the necessity to test on animals. This is only a small beginning of what is necessary to end these immoral acts. Animal testing in cosmetics is useless and cruel, and can be accomplished by other methods of research to end the suffering of animals.
Everyday cosmetic products that many people use, such as lipsticks, shampoo, face wash, etcetera, are verified to be safe using animal testing. Chemical burns and other short term ailments are very serious concerns that plague Americans and the knowledge that the products they use will not harm them and their families is possible because of animal testing. Also long term effects, such as cancer, have been discovered through animal product testing and promptly stopped saving countless lives. “NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS YOU’RE THE GUINEA PIG” (Source C). Living day to day with the risk that the products trusted to use on your children and yourself is enough to validate
More companies should stop testing their products on animals. They’re many companies that still test their products on animals. One of the biggest area on where they test products in would be in cosmetic. The biggest brand makeup name that test their products on animals would be M.A.C. Cosmetics. Some people wouldn't be as sock that they would test their product on animals, because on how the makeup leaves ones face after a while of using that product. From M.A.C. Cosmetics being a while know makeup product, one might thing they would use their money to test their product on something else other than animals. Another shocking makeup cosmetics brand that also test there makeup on animals is Covergirl. The reason on why this makeup compony is shocking that they test animals its also well know and they do many commercials with famous well known which they're called cover gils.
Millions of animals every year are being used in labs to test cosmetics. This problem has become a worldwide issue and the U.S. needs to make a change by prohibiting the use of animals in testing cosmetics for safe use.
Much progress has been made to end this testing, gearing the world into the right direction of animal testing free procedures, though, not everyone is on board. The United States have yet to hop onto the train toward a free animal testing future. The United States continues to test on animals for cosmetics even though there are numerous ways to test, without using animals, that are more efficient and effective than animal testing. (3D tissue samples of corneas made from human cells can be used instead of using an animal organ when testing for cosmetics side effects.) What is worse than the United States still testing on animals, is that there is continued demand for even more animal
“Beauty without cruelty” is the outcry that can be heard from animal right activists around the world. The FDA does not require companies to perform tests on animals but if the cosmetic product contains chemicals that can be seen as toxins, testing becomes a necessity. There are currently thirteen safety tests that are performed on animals.
