Bioterrorism is a deliberate release of viruses in the enemy’s territory to cause terror in a community and make the people lose faith in their government. People have been doing this for a long time, people used to just hurl barrels of poisonous snakes at their enemies and they would also send dead bodies that have died from diseases and hope that it would spread, but now it is much more advanced. Scientists fear that enemies will be able to weaponize diseases such as smallpox and Ebola to use against us and since they usually mutate the diseases they will likely be even more deadly and more likely to kill more people. I feel that no one, not even America, should use diseases to get ahead in the war. Bioterrorism, in my opinion, is a cowardly
Bioterrorism is the biggest part of Code Orange and how new and threatening it is. As Derek says on page 138,”But here's my guess: what a terrorist could do is get hold of Mitty. He gets sick and they’re golden. They launch the first successful bioterrorist attack on America.” What Derek is saying is that if a terrorist got hold of a deadly virus that people aren't vaccinated for, they can launch an epidemic that could wipe out a country. What makes smallpox perfect for terrorists is that it hasn't been a thing since the 70’s. This means that people are not currently vaccinated and would never guess that they have it. Clearly, bioterrorism is almost if not more scary than normal terrorism
“Bioterrorism remains a major threat for the United States despite more than $65 billion spent on protecting the country from myriad dangers, the Bipartisan WMD Terrorism Research Center said in its latest report Wednesday. The center's Bio-Response Report Card evaluated U.S. preparedness for countering threats from bioterrorism and found the country remains vulnerable to multiple threats and "largely unprepared for a large-scale bioterrorist attack."”(UPI.com, 2011). There have been over a dozen leading U.S. bio-defense experts that have taken part in figuring out where we are exactly as a county and what the effects of a terroristic attack
What is Bioterrorism? What are the types of Bioterrorism? What issues or concerns should we be aware of when talking about Bioterrorism? How is Bioterrorism different from the United States and that of Guam? These are some of the things people would think of and wonder when they hear the word Bioterrorism. It’s important to know the different steps or precautions that a person can look into in order to prevent themselves from being a victim of Bioterrorism. First things first, Bioterrorism is defined as the intentional release of toxic biological agents to harm and terrorize civilians, in the name of a political or other cause. The history of Bioterrorism goes way back. According to the Terrorism Issues and Homeland Security, there have always been efforts to use germs and disease as weapons. The reported risk has led the U.S. government to expend immense resources for bio-defense in the early part of the 21st century. According to Right Diagnosis from health grades, there was a list of the different types of Bioterrorism and they are: Anthrax, Salmonella, Glanders, Melioidosis, and Smallpox.
The stockpiling medication, vaccines, and supplies are imperative this allows the organization to have all necessary items available for immediate use. Bioterrorism attacks are unpredictable and consequently are difficult to prepare for the Pharmacy departments ought to be involved in emergency planning efforts; during an invasion, the drugstore is responsible for obtaining, handling and the storage of medication.
In fact, the former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director James Woolsey has stated that creating a biological weapon is as easy as producing beer and that even a good chemistry high school student is capable of creating a biological weapon (Gerstein, 2010). Moreover, with the increase of natural viruses such as Ebola, terrorists could carry out a biological attack without the need of having to use any technology (Cenciarelli et al., 2015). They could simply travel to the country where a transmittable natural virus is occurring and they could get infected on purpose; then, all they have to do is travel back to their target location and intentionally spread the transmittable virus among large crowds of people (Cenciarelli et al.,
Throughout the progression of mankind, there has always been a need to become superior in tactics and technology over an opponent. It did not take long for man to discover the effective and deadly tactic of Bioterrorism, which is the deliberate release of viruses, bacteria or other germs used to cause illness or death in people, animals, or plants. As time passes, everything about bioterrorism becomes more and more sophisticated, making it very difficult to combat with. By examining the history of bioterrorism, one can learn how military forces utilize this deadly weapon.

It seems to me that the most realistic threat to our nation is that of a Biological Weapon [BW].
Bioterrorism is directly focused on the livestock and crops, which are valuable sources of food. The agroterrorism attack in the U.S. has started an economic warfare, which can turn fatal to most Americans. Economic warfare has calculated of being damaging to the
The anthrax attacks in America in 2001 remain in the memories of people today, but as far back as pre-biblical times the use of biological agents to conduct warfare occurred. One example from 700 BC cited the Assyrians poisoning water wells using rye ergot, while another example from 400 BC references Scythian archers using the blood from decomposing bodies as a coating for arrowheads in order to create infection in the enemy (Kostadinov, & Galabova, 2010, p 296-297). Less commonly known, is that as recently as 2009, evidence shows that Al-Qaeda was experimenting with biological weapons and a number have been killed by the plague at a training camp (Kostadinov, & Galabova, 2010, p 301). If there is a lesson that can be inferred from Al-Qaeda’s past practices, it is that once they identify a course of action or a target, they commit to it until ultimately
Courage is an essential human quality. Facing fears against all odds is a feature in many novels. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is no exception. Many characters depicts the quality. Some in normal situations others, take on terrifying tasks in a unique and original way. Scout, Jem, Atticus, and Ms. Dubose show bravery in many areas of their lives, one character risks their careers, others have a situation that lacks massive consequences.
Another risk that emergency personnel will face when countering or responding to a terror attack is the risk of a chemical or biological hazard being present at the scene of the incident. Chemical and biological hazards can be a result of the materials used in the bombs or can be a result of a terrorist distributing biological agents, such as bacteria or viruses. According to an article by the Centers for Disease Control, the largest bioterror attack to occur in America was orchestrated by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in which he used salmonella typhimurium to infect food at local restaurants in an effort to influence an upcoming election, thus leading to numerous illnesses (Torok, et al., 1997). This attack could have been much worse had the attacker
Imagine a civilian in an American neighborhood creating and using a weapon of mass destruction, a global weapon. This could happen anywhere with someone with half a brain. Biological warfare includes these weapons. Bio means life so Bio warfare attacks the body. It spreads violently and quickly to any place on the globe. Bioterror is more threatening than nuclear war because it is easily mishandled, worldwide in lethality, and easily acquired.
If you were to hear the words biological weapons, you almost certainly hear how they are extremely dangerous and how a terrorist could use them at almost any moment. If you were to hear the words bioweapons you would hear it used interchangeably with WMD and compared to nuclear bombs but is this the actual truth? Are biological weapons truly that devastating and should we be afraid? The answer is it depends on a couple variables. There three different types of biological weapons including toxins, non-contagious and contagious. What separates them from chemical weapons, is the fact that bio-weapons are alive or derived from living things like snake venom. Bio-weapons could be a pretty good terrorist weapon if a terrorist could figure out
In our time, bioterrorism is an upcoming threat that is lurking behind the scenes. Even though we are not aware of the dangers and consequences of bioterrorism, the effects of it in the future could be lethal. The anthrax attacks are a perfect example of this. According to the article Anthrax attack on the Capitol, “ The innocent opening of a letter, a routine task that is done millions of times every day in offices across the country, suddenly escalated into a public health crisis that truly frightened many people who work on the Hill,”(Frist). This shows our lack of preparation in terms of working against bioterrorism. In order combat this future threat, The United States
