In 2015, The Department of Housing and Urban. Development (HUD) released its Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress. Did you know that an estimated 987,239 individuals used a shelter program in the U.S. at some point? Did you know that 132,847 of these individuals are veterans of the armed forces? Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Yale Division of Mental Health Services and Treatment Outcomes Research Center claims that "Research has found veterans are at increased risk for homelessness compared to the general population, particularly among veterans who have served in the all-volunteer force which began effectively in 1975 following the Vietnam War."
