1. What major idea(s) or insight(s) did you personally gain as you read Chapter 3?
As I read chapter 3, I gained insight on my personal teaching style. I identified my style as a Linear Thinker. That is my comfort zone in the classroom. The linearist want education to be as efficient as possible, both fiscally and empirically (Glatthorn, 2016, p.98). I value procedure, routine, and the best way to do the job as described by Glatthorn. I gained insight on the many different approaches and ideas in the chapter. It is

Glatthorn states that research is helping teachers know how students learn and how they receive process, and interpret information (p. 127). Jensen says that the processes of the brain’s academic operating system are malleable and can be trained and improved through a variety of activates such …show more content…
I think it is important for administrators to be leaders that can look at many teaching and curriculum styles and ideas as wonderful diversities. One size does not fit all teachers or all students. Teachers need to be allowed to think outside of the box and try things that they feel will help their students. As a leader, the administrator can act as a catalyst for reflection and help guide teachers when change is needed. I want to be a leader that builds teachers up with support and encouragement while still holding them to high expectation of accountability. This chapter pointed out the many differences in linear thinkers, holists, laissez-faire advocates, and critical theorist. As an administrator it is important to have an understanding of these difference so when we see teachers using styles we understand why they are teaching the way they
After reading through chapter six, I began reading chapter seven of our psychology text titled, Learning. Learning is something we do everyday even we don’t realize it. While reading chapter seven, I learned that there are three different types of learning, classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and cognitive learning. Classical conditioning stands for two types of stimuli linking providing us the tools to have a reaction; this is the type of learning that involves automatic behaviors. Operant conditioning is the type of learning that causes a change in behavior, in reaction to consequences; this is the behavior that involves choosing of choices. Lastly, cognitive learning is the obtaining of new skills, behaviors, and information through
In Chapter 7 of our What Is Psychology textbook, we learned about the importance, details and strategies of memory techniques. One type of memory is Short Term, which only last up to thirty seconds before forgetting. Whenever has to remember a number or a name, they often repeat the information multiple times so that the Short Term Memory can transition into Long Term Memory. In order for this transition to occur, the information must be constantly repeated, or important enough to be held in the permanent memory, which helps create a “folder” with all retaining information and reminiscing. Another way short term can become long term is using a method called Chunking, this breaks the bigger pictures into smaller ones for the brain to remember,
2. Compulsions are repetitive, purposeful and intentional behaviors that are performed in response to a certain obsession. i. Julia’s condition leaned more towards the compulsive disorder. B. The first week of Prozac, Julia reported that her attitude was completely different.

Chapter Four 1. What is a variable? List at least five different variables and then describe at least two levels of each variable. For example, age is a variable. For adults, age has values that can be expressed in years starting at 18 and ranging upward. In an actual study, the age variable might be measured by asking for actual age in years, the year of birth, or providing a choice of age ranges such as 18-34, 35-54, and 55+. Sentence length is a variable.
Paula is apart of the target student group in her class. She does lack the cognitive capabilities as her peers in the higher cognitive functioning groups.Though Paula does show eagerness to perform as well as her other peers, there are many things, including her low cognitive ability, that keeps her from catching onto the information he is taught. During the initial pre-test, Paula, scored with a 33.34%,one of the two lowest scores in the class. Like her peers, Paula was not able to finish the test, and the test fairly measured the information that she was able to answer before getting highly frustrated with the pre-test like her peers. Paula was able to correctly identify the questions that asked about the needs of a plant. Paula was
In Chapter 8, it talks about the Perceiving Motion in how we look at things from far away. When I read some parts of this chapter it was pretty interesting and it is really true. The question that was asked throughout the text is how do we perceive motion?
Chapter 13 dives into the idea of stress, the relationship between our health and stress and many other topics in between.
Chapter 14 starts off by looking at the way adults in middle adulthood view life. By this point in their life, they feel they have “grown up” and they are out of the life is still about to happen phase that young adults experience. This changes their subject well-being, which is the individual’s overall satisfaction with life and her general happiness. To measure this, questionnaires or interviews asking the person to rate her life and feelings about her life are conducted. Contrary to what some might believe, income does not make a major impact on a person’s life satisfaction.
A hypothesis is an explanation that can be tested based on observation. A statistical hypothesis is testable explanation based on observation and different variables. A null hypothesis explains what the results of the experiment will be if the original hypothesis is wrong. An alternate hypothesis is the opposite result if there is or isn’t a null hypothesis. Semmelweis hypothesized that bacteria/virus filled extremities resulted in higher death rates.
The poem “Students” by Tom Wayman, shows four different learning styles: The Vaccination Theory of Education, The Dipstick Theory of Education, The Easy Listener Theory of Learning, and The Kung Fu Theory of Education. Wayman is a teacher that has noticed that every person devolves into one of these different learning styles. The four different theory of education are used every day even if we do not know.
Chapter Four The five basic tenets of an abundant community include satisfaction with what one has, the capacity to provide what is needed, a cooperative rather than competitive system, responsibility for one another, and living within the reality of the human condition (McKnight & Block, 2010, p. 66). When these beliefs are met, prevention and provision occur. Competent communities, which focus on the gifts of members, nurture their way of life, and are hospitable, create capacities for families and neighborhoods; kindness, generosity, forgiveness, cooperation, acceptance of fallibility, and mystery (p. 68). The authors do not explain these capacities in depth at this time; it would be particularly helpful to know what they mean by mystery.
A.1. “The lives of the street-oriented are often marked by disorganization. In the most desperate circumstances people frequently have a limited understanding of priorities and consequences, and so frustrations mount over bills, food, and, at times, drink, cigarettes, and drugs.” (page 108) A.2. The factors of disorganization and a misconception of priorities along with their consequences make it difficult for “street” families to become “decent.”
1. In chapter 1, Santrock describes some contemporary concerns in the study of development, including health and well-being, parenting and education, and sociocultural contexts. Which of the following concepts best relates to these contemporary concerns? On a separate sheet of paper write the letter of the best answer, and explain why it is the best answer.
Reading chapter eight, after watch the video for our second WRA really opened my eyes to see different perspectives. Though chapter eight did not really make me question anything either. It was all mainly chapter five that has put a few questions in my head, but the rest of the chapters gave me knowledge that I will use for the future. 2. Name three concepts that you found to be of particular interest in this module.
