In the first paragraph of the play it reads, "My darling sister Ismene, we have had a fine inheritance from Oedipus. God has gone through the whole range of sufferings and piled them all on us, -grief upon grief, humiliation upon humiliation"(1042). This just shows how terrible fate has treated the family of Oedipus. Creon has a different fate, one that he brought upon himself but it is much more dour than anyone else's. Creon's fate was to lose all of all of his family and the rest of his life knowing it was his entire fault because of his selfish actions and his stubborn ways. In the end of the play Creon says, "Nobody else to share the blame. Just me . . . I killed you. I killed you my dear"(1078-1079).
Antigone takes place just after a war between Antigone’s two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices. Eteocles fought on the side of Thebes whereas Polynices resembled an invader. Afterwards, Eteocles is buried and seen as honorable. However, Polynices is denied a proper burial because he is considered a traitor to Thebes. In this play, Sophocles uses Antigone and Creon as foils by characterizing Antigone as a martyr and Creon as a tyrant to urge the reader to realize that one’s own morals are more significant than the decrees of any government.
The original play of Antigone was written 1000s of years ago but, this movie was made in the 1940s during the second world war. The French Government was controlled by Nazis, when showed the play, both the french resistance and the Nazi party loved it. When one analyzes the characters to this situation you find that Creon relates to the Nazi party and Antigone is like the French rebels. Antigone is like the rebels because she is going against the wishes of Creon and wants to give her brother a proper burial and Creon is like the Nazi party because it was his decision to make sure that his nephew got the punishment he deserved even if it meant going against his family values.
This play is ultimately concerned with one person defying another person and paying the price. Antigone went against the law of the land, set by the newly crowned King Creon. Antigone was passionate about doing right by her brother and burying him according to her religious beliefs even though Creon deemed him a traitor and ordered him to be left for the animals to devour. Creon was passionate about being king and making his mark from his new throne. Although they differed in their views, the passion Creon and Antigone shared for those opinions was the same, they were equally passionate about their opposing views. Creon would have found it very difficult to see that he had anything in common with Antigone however as he appears to be

This quote explains the main conflict of the play. Creon has ordered that Polynices, Antigone’s brother, cannot receive a proper burial because in Creon’s eyes he is a traitor. Polynices fought against his brother to claim the throne of Thebes, the pair ended up killing each other. Tiresias tries to tell Creon that he is wrong to do this because it is angering the gods that he is denying them a body. Tiresias even warns Creon not to be stubborn, “Stubborness/ brands you for stupidity-pride is a crime.” (1137-1138). Pride in Greek tragedies is most often the cause of a characters downfall and Creon is no exception.
All over the world people perform acts of civil disobedience or refuse to comply with certain laws or rules made. From people verbally refusing or physically refusing many people do it. For example Rosa Parks refused to give her seat up to a white man when it was a law to give the seat up when it is needed to. Another example of this is a fictional protagonist in the play Antigone. This character's name was Antigone and she buried her dead brother even tho she was told buy the king Creon that he is forbidden to be buried. Even though both examples are very different Antigone and Rosa petray similar reasons for why they acted as they did.
Antigone is a story that revolves around a dispute between Antigone and Creon. Antigone, being one of the daughters of Oedipus was destined to suffer tragedies dealing with her family. In the story, Antigone is being punished and sentenced to death due to wanting to give Polynices, her brother, a proper burial unlike the one Creon had chosen. The reason for Creon's decision to just have Polynices thrown in the desert for vultures and dogs to eat was due to his view of Polynices being a traitor to the motherland. In the process of Polynices trying to get power for himself, he ended up slaying his brother Eteocles, who was king at the time. While Eteocles would be buried with riches and recognition of being a fare leader, Polynices would be treated
Antigone makes a decision that she will bury her brother at any cost. Although the law says whoever buries him will be punished, she breaks it without thinking about the consequences. In this scene it shows how much Antigone values the laws of the gods more than the laws made by man. Fast forwarding the play, Creon has just found out who is that buried Polyneices and calls out Antigone and her sister, Ismene. Creon questions the two sisters if they both collaborated in this action, without knowing that Ismene had turned down Antigone and had neglected to help her.
The opening events of the play Antigone, written by Sophocles, quickly establish the central conflict between Antigone and Creon. Creon has decreed that the traitor Polynices, who tried to burn down the temple of gods in Thebes, must not be given proper burial. Antigone is the only one who will speak against this decree and insists on the sacredness of family and a symbolic burial for her brother. Whereas Antigone sees no validity in a law that disregards the duty family members owe one another, Creon's point of view is exactly opposite. He has no use for anyone who places private ties above the common good, as he proclaims firmly to the Chorus and the audience as he revels in his victory over Polynices. He sees Polynices as an enemy to

Antigone is a play that was written in ancient Greece by the playwright Sophocles. It is the third play in a trilogy of tragedies about the city-state of Thebes, revolving around Oedipus Rex. Antigone starts the day after a civil war fought between the two sons of Oedipus Rex after his death. The civil war ended in death for both brothers, so their uncle, Creon, assumed the role of King of Thebes. The main conflict of the play begins when Creon gives one brother, Eteocles, a burial with honors, but passes a law forbidding a burial for the other brother, Polyneices with the penalty of death. One of the sisters of Eteocles and Polyneices, Antigone disagrees with this law, and decides to bury Polyneices, resulting in Creon sentencing Antigone to death. A conflict emerges between Antigone and Creon, who appear to be opposites. However, despite Antigone and Creon’s different stances on law, they are ultimately more similar than different because of their shared value of loyalty and their shared characteristic, hubris.
Due to his unwavering pride and refusal to see through the eyes of others, Creon falls from his position of immense power and wealth which in the end doesn’t matter because all his loved ones and family are now dead.
Over all almost every character in the play, Antigone, was stubborn, and all this led to disaster. In the end because of all of this foolishness Antigone, Haimon, and Euridice, Creons wife, die. This leaves Creon with no one
