Why The World Needs Anne Frank
Anne Frank was probably one of the best writers in her era. She is still remembered today due to her lasting legacy in her book, “The Diary of a Young Girl.” This diary gave us people a new perspective of how it was like for Jews being persecuted in Europe by the Nazis in an event known as the Holocaust. It is an awe inspiring book the can leave the reader astounded. “The Diary of a Young Girl,” is a must read for everyone, especially for developing teens. This fascinating Diary should be taught in all middle schools because it will help teens view the world from different perspectives. This is exactly why, “The Diary of a Young Girl,” should be taught in Mr. Godinez’s 8th grade class.

There is a reason Anne Frank’s diary is a widely known and valued piece of literature. That is because of Anne's talent as a writer. If Anne was not the great writer we know today, her fascinating story would just be another lost story in the Holocaust. Her tragic death makes us see the horrible things humans can do to each other. “The Diary of a Young Girl,” proves that the old statement, “Man is a wolf to man,” is in fact true and for this very reason, we learn from this diary that we shouldn't be bystanders when horrible things happen right under our noses. Her diary makes us see how much a human being can suffer under the worst imaginable situations. This is exactly why Mr. Godinez should teach, “The Diary of a Young Girl,” because it teaches teens to not be bystanders and to value everything they have. If Mr. Godinez decides not the teach, “The Diary of a Young Girl,” it would be an insult to Anne Frank’s devotion and legacy as one of the best writers who ever
Frank 's memoir explores a lot about childhood till adolescent development. Out of the family relations Anne Frank had as well as her physical development in an extremely difficulty environment, one can effectively analyze her life in the context of several child development theorists and concepts (Frank, 1997, p. 45). Powerful as well as poignant diarisitic memoir, Anne Frank’s work during her time with her family hiding in a little attic when Amsterdam was under Nazi occupation in the 2nd World War is highly regarded globally. Although Anne 's diary is often considered as an important document of childhood growth as well as discovery of a teenage girl, it has had an enormous effect as a narrative which details the difficulties Jewish citizens faced under the Nazi Party amid the most horrible years of the 2nd World War. Her honest portrayal of time in hiding, placed against the background war, offers a straightforward view into the most tragic period of human history.
The central focus and purpose of the content that I will be teaching in this learning segment is to “Analyze the extent to which a filmed or live production of a story or drama stays faithful to or departs from the text or script, evaluating the choices made by the director or actors.” The 8th grade curriculum has chosen The Diary of Anne Frank, play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. This unit will teach students about Anne Frank’s Legacy. In this unit, students learn about the influence of Anne Frank and her diary. This text is used because it shows how a tragedy can impact the lives of ordinary people just like their selves. Jews have perished because of their beliefs since the beginning of time but never have so many Jews been persecuted worldwide as they were in World War II. Anne Frank’s diary reaches a place within all of our hearts because it reminds us how easily the innocents can suffer. Sometimes we may choose to close our eyes or look the other way when unjustifiable things happen in our society and Anne’s tale reminds us that ignorance, in part, claimed her life. Sadly, her story is but one of many of those who died in the Holocaust and as with other Jews, her fate was determined by the country she lived in, her sex and her age.

One of those victims of this brutality was Anne Frank, a young Jewish girl who hid from the Nazis along with her family. Although she was merely ordinary, Anne Frank kept a diary which became a significant, historical artifact in the modern world as it details her account of concealing her identity from the outside world. Her story, told in an innocent perspective, allows individuals to reflect the dreadful events of the Holocaust and acknowledge how far we have come since then. Even though she died along with millions of other victims from the Holocaust, her spirit still exists thanks to her articulately written words in her diary which is now considered one of the most famous works of literature. Anne Frank’s legacy still lives on today because her story provides a primary source of a dark period in history, insightful contemplation of humanity, and motivation for people to stand up against unjustified persecution.
Before the war the Frank family had lived happily in Germany for years. Everything considered Edith and Otto Frank, Anne’s parents, had led a quality life. Otto was born in Frankfurt, Germany while his wife Edith was born in Aachen. They were both born into respected families. Mr. Frank was happy in Germany, but decided to moved to the US, to work, though he soon returned to Germany to serve in WWI. After his time serving he worked in a bank where he met Edith, his future wife. (Anne Frank in the world 1929-1945 page 12) Soon after their marriage they had Margot, Anne’s elder sister by three years. She loved school and was quieter and better behaved than Anne had ever been. Teaching the Holocaust to high school students can be tricky at times. Choosing the right sources, whether primary or secondary, can be a daunting task. Students may connect to certain sources on an individual level, but other sources may make it hard to understand the “people” of the Holocaust. Susan Morger’s, Teaching the Diary of Anne Frank: An In-depth Resource for Learning about the Holocaust through the Writings of Anne Frank, offers high school teachers a very useful resource for teaching the Holocaust. Morger seeks to explain to students why the Holocaust occurred, by answering, “Why were Anne and her family, along with millions of others, stigmatized, deprived of their possessions, forced into hiding, hunted down, and killed.” She does this by providing a rubric for instruction that includes: teaching resources, a general history of World War II, a detailed look at antisemtism, prejudice, and scapegoating. Morger pains herself to remind the instructor to individualize the Holocaust as a tool for understanding.
Anne Frank was a young Jewish teenager who had to go into hiding during the Nazi occupation in Holland. In the same town of Amsterdam, Etty Hillesum, a Dutch woman who also happened to be a jew, also dealt with the persecution of the Nazis. The two both kept a diary in which they relayed their feelings of the situations in which they were in. The two resemble and contrast each other with details found in these diaries and out. Without out a doubt there are similarities and differences pertaining to the experience and awareness Anne and Etty.
The Holocaust is a genocide of Jewish culture that was discriminated and simply hated for their looks and religion. Anne Frank was a Jewish citizen at this time. Who do you believe should receive a holocaust medal of honor? I believe Anne Frank should revive this because she went into hiding in a secret annex. She was so young and was put through so much.
Anne Frank provided us information on how it felt to be a victim of the holocaust. It’s been 63 years since the tragedy of the holocaust over 6,000,000 to 11,000,00 died. Anne Frank’s diary is more suitable for S.S. classrooms and should be used for historical education more than anything else. First of all, Anne Frank’s diary is the best way to introduce children and students to the holocaust and the tragedies behind it. In an essay called “Anne Frank, The Holocaust Victim: The Controversy about her diary in school education, and the Controversy about Her Image” Jessica Landfried states that, “If students are taught the holocaust through numbers and statistics, the holocaust will seem distant. It is through the personal stories that students will want to learn about the tragedies of the war.” This quote shows that Anne Frank’s diary combines personal stories and the Holocaust to make the topic seem more approachable
The Diary of Anne Frank is a remarkably moving book about the short life of a young girl and her family. The Holocaust was a horrible time for Jewish people and Anne and her Jewish family’s lives were completely turned upside down as a result.
