As human beings we have developed daily routines that we classify as “normal.” Most of us use a considerable amount of hygiene products each day without putting any consideration into the creation of the merchandise. Have you ever stopped to contemplate how this product was developed and ended up in your hands? To the consumer, it may be just a bottle of shampoo or a tube of mascara – but to animals it is a world of pain. The nature of animal experimentation is erroneous and inhumane. There is an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence that shows there are alternatives to experiments on animals that still benefit medical studies.
Approximately 225 million animals are used for testing every year. Billions have been killed in the process. ("Questions and Answers About Biomedical Research.”) How can this be allowed? Isn’t it cruel to use animals to test products for humans? Many animal rights activists say, “yes” to this question. However, scientists argue it is necessary and animal research can help save human lives. There are probable arguments for both sides. But the dangers of using animals to test products for human use weighs an even greater risk than not using the animals. Alternatives are much more ethical.
Animals very rarely serve as models for the human body. Many people are brought up with the idea that animal experimentation is necessary to insure the safety of humans, but in reality, these experiments are creating only harm to animals. Animals have done nothing to deserve this backlash, and by educating the public on the true unsuccessfulness of animal testing, the ethical side is forced out in the open. The argument ‘Animal Testing is Bad Science’ by the People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), argues that ethics dictate the value of each life, and that no life is overthrown by another. This well formulated argument effectively integrates ethos, logos, powerful structure, and robust premises to persuade the audience.
Question: What if people were kept in captivity, forced to eat certain things, and get skin injections on a weekly basis? People do not deserve to be treated that way, neither do animals. Scientists are treating animals cruelly due to drug and cosmetic testing. Animal testing is wrong because it is harmful to animals, expensive, and not always accurate.
Picture yourself in a testing laboratory; needles, drugs, and knives pointed in your direction with you having no idea what’s going on around you, this is how animals everyday are treated, we have to stop this now! Millions of animals are killed in laboratories everyday with no chance to object to what the testers are about to do to them. Animals feel as much pain as humans do so why does it make it okay to test on them when they are so alike to humans? Every day people test makeup, shampoos, and medicines on animals, the strange thing is that animals have different skin, hair, and internal organs than humans have. Since the animals have different internal organs than humans only 5-25% of the testing results are agreeable between animals
According to Hajar animal testing has been used for a long period of time as early as “ Early Greek physician-scientists, such as Aristotle, (384 – 322 BC) and Erasistratus, (304 – 258 BC), performed experiments on living animals.” This not only shows how long animal testing has been around it also shows us how crucial it has been for everyone even thousands of years ago. Animals used for testing are important in developing cures for people. Animal testing has been and will continue to be a crucial part of the human society to keep humans healthy as well as other animals. I believe that animal testing is a part of human society and most definitely should continue to be used. There have been disabilities that controlled many people for centuries however with animal testing fighting off these horrific incidents has brought people hope to become healthy once again as well as a future. Continued animal testing is ethically the lesser of two evils, allowing disease to be understood and for the emergence of viable solutions to help human survivability. Animal testing has given people the ability to fight off deadly diseases, tumors, as well as have the ability to overcome blindness.
Animal testing harms and violates the rights of the animal itself. Some people say it is okay because the animal does not know the difference between right from wrong. Animal testing creates a traumatizing experience for the animal. Their bodies become damaged from all the burning and allergic reactions they have to undergo from the chemicals. The animals do not know what is going on, nor do they know where they are because they have been taken out of their natural habitats. The change in environment is new to the animals, making them forced to accept the new area they would call home. Animal testing prohibits an animal from being free. Is it okay to test on animals because they lack the ability to know if the testing being done to them is moral or not? Animals do not have the ability to make their own moral judgment. It is not fair to harm an animal because they are living organisms that play an important role in the ecosystem.
If rabbits could speak, they would probably tell you to stop supporting many of your favorite companies. Even your most trusted household brands, such as Maybelline, Arm & Hammer, Listerine, and even Lysol contribute to the millions of innocent animals subjected to cruel and wasteful product testing every year. These and many other widely popular brands implement animal testing during the production, modification, and design of their products. This testing is extremely dangerous to animals and in some cases humans as well. In spite of this, products American citizens use on a daily basis come from companies that test their products on animals and the consumers of these products are virtually blind to the evils that lie behind them. Animal testing is immoral and should be abolished because it tortures innocent creatures, is an ineffective method of testing a product, and is far more expensive than the alternatives that exist.
Being unsupportive of animal rights is utterly inhumane and is the equivalent of murder. The controversial idea that animal rights should not be supported is completely ignorant and simply, it does not benefit you or our society. The cruelty of animal testing as it stands can be eliminated only if we all support animal rights. Extensive amounts of money can also be saved as animals are very inefficient test subjects with results showing complete inaccuracies. How tragic to think that we could earn absolutely no benefit from the death of an animal because of failed testing? Our world is extremely precious, and by supporting animal rights we can transform our world into a better place.
According to a 2017-18 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association about 85 million families in the United States own a pet. In most homes pets are treated like a member of the family. But what if that family member was legally allowed to be burned, shocked, poisoned, starved, or forced to become addicted to drugs for research? Most people would be heartbroken and outraged! But that is what does happen to the millions of animals that are used in animal testing in the U.S. every year. Animal testing is wrong because it is cruel and inhumane to the animals and because animals make poor test subjects for testing on products or drugs that will be used for humans.
Did you know animal testing is really bad for animals? People burn, poison and shock helpless animals everyday just so they can collect a tiny bit of data. Why would people waste their time everyday abusing animals? We need to stop this kind of research because animals are getting brutally hurt, it is happening illegally and is often unregulated, and also most animal testing is ineffective on humans.
“Right now, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs and other animals are locked inside barren cages in laboratories across the world. They languish in pain, ache, with lonliness, and long to be free. Instead, all they can do is sit and wait in fear for the next terrifying and painful procedure that will be performed on them”. This statement about animal testing is from PETA.org. I have a strong belief about this topic so I am arguing the point that animal testing is cruel and a waste of time and money.
Today animal test subjects such as white rats are used in experiments such as drug testing to make sure it is safe for humans and as a result some animals die. Most scientists live by certain moral most of which are humane unlike Nazi scientists. In their eyes, the perfect test subjects to use were humans, mostly concentration camp inmates. Leading and foremost Nazi doctors were caught and brought to justice before the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg after the end of World War II. The trail exposed evidence of inhumane and immoral human experiments performed at the Buchenwald, Auschwitz, Sachsenhausen, and Dachau concentration camps. Twenty Nazi doctors were charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity. Ever
According to the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, 70% of American population take a minimum of one prescribed medicine (MAYO CLINIC). Medical Science is an area of science with the purpose of analyzing and preventing illnesses and discovering cures for diseases ("Medical Science"). According to protagonists of Medical Science, this is one of the most beneficial methods of healing patients, because medicine is seen to have more effective results than other techniques such as alternative medicines (Friedman). Although Medical Science assists in getting rid of even fatal disorders, experimenting on animals is unethical and its results are not exact to be applied to people, also the side effects of all kinds of drugs are risks to patients’ health, and
A quote from an experimenter showed his view on animal testing “Because the animals are like us.” Experimenters were asked why it is ok to test animals the answer would be “Because the animals are not like us.”
Animal testing is cruel and should be banned because there are better ways to test things. My second reason is that different species of animals and humans are so different so there bodies will react differently to different things. Lastly, the animal welfare act is bypassed and animals are treated very poorly when they test in the animals. These are just some of the reasons proving animal testing is cruel and should be banned.
