On Tuesday during indoor play, I was at dolphins room with one of the staff member (Sara)Suddenly a man smelling of alcohol walked right into the room and started yelling I've come to pick up my children because that bitch kidnapped them.
I was trying to remember if I have seen this man before while I was walking towards him but I could not remember anything I was sure that this was the first time I see him.
I told him this is the children's room, let's talk in the office but he said I'm not going anywhere, I am here to take my children with me and he started calling the kids names, Tom, Alice lets go home.
It wasn't really safe to have an angry drunk man in the room and I could see the kids were a bit scared I asked Sara to take them somewhere

I remembered one of the kids were allergic to the rabbits and I told her please keep in mind that Jason is allergic to the pets i suggest you get someone else to look after him while you take the kids to see the rabbits.
Laila (another staff member) walked into the room smiling and asked if everything is ok? I told her he is Tom and Alice's father and he is here to pick them up. in my mind, I was sure that I wouldn't let the kids go with him anyway because he was drunk and it wouldn't be safe to let the kids go with him but I had to get him out of the room and I also needed to check the children enrolment record.
I said no problem but there is the couple of things that I need to check and some papers that you need to fill out first. please follow me and we will sort it out for you .he started following me to the office, I asked him to sit down and if he needs to have some water. He was quite and waiting for me to talk i started talking to him while i was checking the kids record i told him that I have never seen you picking up the children i need to check couple of things before we let the kids

If the person left with the child and we are concerned about the child's safety, staff will alert the Police immediately and request intervention. he was listening to me and I told him that these policies have made to ensure the safe delivery and collection of all children being cared for by service and to fulfil our duty of care to children and we want to encourage families to deliver and collect their children on time and in a safe manner and also to comply with legislative requirements of the Education and Care Services national regulation .
He asked if he can get the enrolment forms and put his details on but I told him that I won't be able to show him the forms for privacy reasons and we need to fill out another form as the contract detail is going to change and we need new forms with new dates on .we can arrange a time and get you and the children's mother to fill in another enrolment form with both of your details on.
I Asked him if there is any question I can answer and he said it's all good and I apologise for what happened

In my work setting as a Registered Childminder it is my responsibility to provide a safe and healthy environment for all the children in my care. My premises are regularly checked by the Northern Health and Social Care Trust as part of the registration process and meet all mandatory requirement.
In any childcare setting there must be policies created to protect the childs welfare, such as the Parent Complaint Procedure, Lost Child Policy, Confidentiality Policy, Major incident policy, Staffing and Employment Policy and Using Photographic Images of Children Information and Consent Forms this can be for an outing or a childs picture taken.
To be able to safeguard children effectively we need to be aware of the following policies:
It is important to ensure children and young people are protected from harm within the setting, as the parents are leaving their children in your care with the expectation that they can trust you and your colleagues to keep their children from harm. It is difficult for parents to leave their children in an education or care setting and then go to work; they need to be confident that their children will be in safe supportive hands with people that will help them develop.
Working together to safeguard children 2006 sets out how organisations and individuals should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in accordance with the Children’s Act 1989 and the Children’s Act 2004. It is important that all practitioners within settings and environments looking and caring after children and young people must know their responsibilities and duties in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, following their legislations, policies and procedures.
In order to ensure the safety of the children and young people in our care there are a number of policies, procedures and practices that must be adhered to.

As professionals, we have a duty to ensure that children and young people are protected while they are in our care and that where we have other concerns outside school, these are investigated fully. School policies and procedures need to be such that parents and governors are aware of them and that staff are fully trained with regard to safeguarding. Schools will need to consider and include in their policies:
Approach them with a calm nature but with authority. Ask each child to explain what happened. To let them know that you are treating each one fairly by giving both of them a chance to explain what happened.
It is very important that anyone working with children should be able to recognise if a child is at risk of harm of in need because of their vulnerability. The earlier this is recognised, the better outcome for the child involved.
There are many procedures, policies, legislations and statutory guidance to support the safety and welfare of children and young people. They have been developed over many years to recognise the rights of children and young people, protect vulnerable children and young people and after independent inquiries of fatal abuse cases, to recognise the failures of multi agencies and support services.
