The first Olympic games were held all the way back to 776 B. The site where the ancient Olympics were held is called “Olympia” it is in the western part of the Peloponnese. The site holds many amazing, ancient structures such as buildings, shrines and ancient sporting facility’s. The ancient Olympics had 13 sports, all free men were allowed to attend or compete , woman was not allowed to attend the Olympics if they were married. The ancient Olympic nearly continued for 12 centuries, until Emperor Theodosius banned the games in 393 A.D.

The torch was a symbol t from the old Olympics in Greece it was going to burning leaves but later was changed to a torch. Then in 1996 the Olympic flame relay. In 1958 the Olympic torch and flame went global the torch travelled 7,492 km with a total of 3,042 runners. The Olympic Flame is still used today and is an iconic part of the Olympic Games. The Olympic flag is made up of five rings each representing a continent of the world. With a white background representing peace and truth. The Olympic Flag represents peace, good will and global solidarity. Blue-Europe, Black-Africa,Red-America,Yellow Asia,Green Australia (Oceania).

The Olympic motto is Itius, Altius, Fortius these three Latin words mean Swifter, Higher and Stronger. It is described in the goals and great athletes all over the world.

There are three different medals a gold,silver and bronze each awarded to the winning athletes. Each year there is a different pattern on the medals this year is the Rio name dove and leaves.The design has varied a lot science the Olympic games in 1896.
